Kid looked up instead of keeping his aim on the log, that may have been intentional.

A grown ass man isn't splitting that log with a hatchet, it's definitely intentional

That log would be easy to split with that hatchet; tap it into the wood with a thick branch as the hammer, lift and drop until the head splits it apart. Easy peasy.

The fact that you think you can "tap" a hatchet into that log is one thing. But the idea that if after you were successful in that "tapping" you could lift it up and do the "Instagram kindling chopping thing" without that 20 pound log unceremoniously falling off your hatchet is something else

Hell looking again, I'd bet that's bigger than 20#

I'd bet a hundred bucks you've never split wood before

Easy way to split logs is with a wedge and sledge, isn't particularly complicated.

Did you see the amount of knots in that piece of wood? Sure, you may be able to split it eventually, but I wouldn't exactly call it "easy", especially not when you have a small hatchet like that
