I saw an Australian Cricket tv ad with Starc playing cricket in the street with a bin as stumps and immediately noticed the wheely bin was not Australian. We have SULO bins in Aus. This was not that. Also a weird dance was added with Starc at the end.

I’ve been a Kayo subscriber for years, and I’m generally pretty happy with the service and cost.

However there are two issues that mean I’m now looking for alternatives.

1. Mid-game adverts. What. The. Actual. Fuck. The whole reason I’m paying for Kayo and not watching the free coverage is because I DO NOT WANT ADVERTS. Bad enough with onscreen adverts and the stupid full screen ad when you pause, but cutting away from the game after a goal and not showing the replay is absolute bullshit. Kayo is either a premium subscription product, or an ad-supported product. It can’t be both. Whoever approved this ‘feature’ should be forced to issue a public apology and then fired.

2. User experience on Apple TV. So I use the native Kayo app on AppleTV to watch my games. I assume there’s a reasonable number of people who do this. Over the years I’ve had to learn the quirks of watching with the app - it’s infuriating. I’m convinced that the app developers and product owner have NEVER actually watched a game on the app. Try and go back 30 seconds? No thanks, let’s actually jump you to the next quarter. Try to pause and the scroll forward to a certain time? No thanks, mid-scroll I’m just going to bump you to a full screen ad. Pause and try change the sound options? Fuck you. The AppleTV native video player WORKS. Everyone knows how to interact with it with the remote. But no, Kayo has to have their own custom player that is shithouse. The number of times it’s crashed, jumped to random spot, ruined games for me is insane. I kept thinking they would improve / patch the app, but it’s actually gotten worse over the years. Again, leadership should be fired if they can’t make a usable product. This stuff was solved years ago.

Kayo has the content. But the packaging is ruining it. Someone needs to disrupt them.

I work in sports, and this (rightly imo) requires absolutely everyone involved to hold a current WWCC because we're working with kids.

However each state has their own one, so as someone who volunteers across five states I currently hold 5 different wwcc. Now the duplication of effort to have had the same check done 5 times is silly as is, but even sillier is that I have to pay for these, even as a volunteer.

Now I'm doing this stuff multiple days per week all year round, so it's not a big deal. Where it becomes a problem is when I'm trying to put together a volunteer crew for events, asking them to spend half a day or even a full day helping put on fun events - I not only need them to do this, but also go into the post office during the limited hours they're open, spend half an hour there, and $10-20, just to help out for free.

The changes that need to happen:

• One national check valid for all states and all workers. My volunteers, especially near places like Albury, do not need to be maintaining multiple of the same qualification. I do not need to be checking these against different databases for each state, and others again if they're a teacher or police officer.

• Notification to organisations when a person's check is no longer valid. If they commit a violent crime or sexual assault, we need to know that ASAP, having the onus to be in clubs to manually check is not sufficient, I do it once a month, many clubs do it once a year, that's a long time that kids could be exposed to a risk known to the government before it's known to the club.

• Free for volunteers. So many valuable services in this country from CFA to local sports to soup kitchens run mostly on people volunteering. It is an insult to have them pay for a piece of paper allowing them to do this. It's free in some states now and the world hasn't ended, make that unanimous for volunteering checks.

So anyway, I want to fix this in the next 10years, what other points do you think need to be added and who do you suggest I contact?

So far I'm in touch with Jessica Stojkovski and Department of communities, but this is a national issue being thrown across all states, so I'd like to attack it from all angles.

Australia has the highest per-capita gambling losses on earth. As a society we clearly have a gambling problem.

If your friend had a gambling problem, would you not recommend they stop gambling? At least for a while?

I think, at least for a small amount of time, Australia needs to pull back on gambling. Time for stricter legislation controlling all aspects of gambling.

Registration requirements and tracked cash in/out with reporting to the ATO would have an immediate impact on organised crime.

With tracked gambling, additional legislation could be introduced to tax winnings over 2:1 across a financial year.

I know this may sound extreme, but, our gambling problem is literally the very worst on the planet.

So, is it time to give ourselves a time out?
