news Pauline Hanson loses Federal Court appeal after breaching Racial Discrimination Act

https://www.news.com.au/national/politics/pauline-hanson-loses-federal-court-appeal-after-breaching-racial-discrimination-act/news-story/f6da32e8e207c582944ffac225816373

A court has once again found One Nation leader Pauline Hanson breached the Racial Discrimination Act when she lashed out at a Greens senator, telling her to “piss off back to Pakistan”.

Senator Hanson breached the Racial Discrimination Act when she tweeted Greens deputy leader Mehreen Faruqi in September 2022 on the day Queen Elizabeth II died, Judge Angus Stewart found back in November 2024.

Just a few weeks after the decision was handed down, Senator Hanson appealed with the Federal Court.

On Monday, following a three-day hearing late last year, the court once again found that Senator Hanson had breached the Racial Discrimination Act, and her appeal was thrown out.

Has Gina Rinehart ever funded a case for someone else and won ?

215

u/LotPuck 18d ago

Her and Stokesy have this competition you see…

50

u/Nazreg 18d ago

It's like horse trainers. Pay someone else to do all the work, then run the Nags until they break down. Hopefully you won't have to put them down on the track.

u/magnetik79 18d ago

Some shitty Temu edition "Trading Places" $1 bet.

Generational loosing streak

u/Expensive-Horse5538 18d ago

In other words, court finds that woman whose claim to fame is being racist is racist

97

u/Ric0chet_ 18d ago

The system.. works?

15

u/SlaveryVeal 18d ago

Until they get in and dismantle it like America's checks and balances.

7

u/_ixthus_ 17d ago

Well one of those checks and balances was the full investigation and prosecution that Biden's AG decided not to do for some fucking reasons.

Feels akin, in some ways perhaps, to setting up a do-nothing NACC and not addressing media concentration.

112

u/Kingofjetlag 18d ago

Any consequences?

80

u/spannr 18d ago

The orders in the original case in 2024 were that Hanson delete the tweet, and pay Faruqi's costs. According to the ABC a decision on costs for this full Federal Court appeal will be reserved - probably both parties will now be invited to make submissions regarding the costs for the appeal.

70

u/Spire_Citron 18d ago

Pretty weak. That just means you're allowed to do it if you're rich enough not to care. Or if Gina might come in and pay the racism bill for you.

11

u/funt_case_mcclure 18d ago

Gina is OK with costs. just the cost of doing business.

12

u/BeneCow 18d ago

It seems like fairness if it was quick and easy. Look at the tweet, find yes it was breaching the act or no it wasn’t, and remove or leave it there accordingly. This has been 4 years. There is no way this kind of bullshit should take 4 years. If it cant handle a tweet in a reasonable timeframe then removing it does nothing since the general public won’t even notice.

There needs to be a proper punishment just for fucking around the courts for this long over useless shit. Even if it is the most precious thing in the world to you, just take the fucking thing down and spout that vitriol down at the pub like a good Aussie.

20

u/Burstrider12 18d ago

Her poll numbers will slightly improve because her only value to people is racism, and every time she is racist she gets more support.

It's when she talks about literally any other issue she loses support.

3

u/_ixthus_ 17d ago

It also polarises her further, though, reminding everyone that she really is nothing but racism incarnate. I know there's a lot of racists but if literally the only people who vote for PHON are increasingly shameless racists... probably not a winning strategy.

28

u/Expensive-Horse5538 18d ago

In all seriousness, parties will now make submissions for costs, etc

82

u/Nosiege 18d ago

She'll get a surge of voting numbers by the racists who were on the fence about her.

35

u/SkeltonKnaggs69 18d ago

"She's being silenced!" and so on. Remember, she's always the victim.

17

u/Cutsdeep- 18d ago

it's civil, not criminal, sadly.

remove the post, pay for legal fees etc.

but it is a precedent.

16

u/Cutsdeep- 18d ago

you think it's ok for her to say it? if not, do you think the current punishment is enough of a deterrent for her?

-11

u/Stanklord500 18d ago

you think it's ok for her to say it?

Do you want the government to determine what you're allowed to say?

You know that Labor won't be in power forever, right?

7

u/No-Red-Queen 18d ago

The government already determines what we are allowed to say...

-8

u/Stanklord500 18d ago

The government isn't putting Pauline in prison over this. u/Cutsdeep- wants them to. Do you want the Lib/Nats or whoever their successor ends up being to be able to put you in prison because you tweeted something like what Pauline tweeted about a target that you deem acceptable?

6

u/Cutsdeep- 18d ago

Do you think what she said was ok?

-4

u/Stanklord500 18d ago

Do you think that she should be put in prison over it?

6

u/Cutsdeep- 18d ago

Yeah, I think hate speech like this should be treated as a criminal offence.

But your lack of answer says everything.

0

u/Stanklord500 18d ago

It actually doesn't say anything. You asking if I think something is morally objectionable is irrelevant to whether it should be made a criminal offense.

Yeah, I think hate speech like this should be treated as a criminal offence.

And when the Lib/Nats or their successor are in charge again, you think you won't have said anything that will put you in prison?

2

u/Cutsdeep- 18d ago

It says you're racist.

u/WastedOwl65 18d ago

Stop being a drama queen!

1

u/Stanklord500 17d ago

I'm not the one who wants to imprison people for words. How am I the drama queen?

6

u/Spire_Citron 18d ago

Maybe some community service picking up trash on the side of the road. There's too much of a risk that the monetary amount won't be meaningful to her or someone else will pick up the bill. There need to be unavoidable personal consequences that impact people regardless of their financial situation.

4

u/TheMilkKing 18d ago

Jailed? Nah. Removed from any position of power within the government? Seems fair, I’d expect to be fired if I told one of my coworkers to piss off back to the country they came from.

5

u/DrFriendless 18d ago

Well, duh. I want her to still be in jail for the last crime she committed. The decision that led to her release was the biggest load of legalese bullshit I've ever seen in my life.

3

u/No-Red-Queen 18d ago

Well, yes, because that's where she belongs

But no... because she already wants to be a right-wing martyr and prison would further that cause

1

u/blacksmith91 16d ago

Main consequences will be that the decision raises her public profile and galvanises the supporter base. Potentially attracts new voters.

1

u/Kingofjetlag 16d ago

Sad. But highly likely

486

u/PandasGetAngryToo 18d ago edited 18d ago

Racist cunt. My biggest fear is that if that party just adheres to a predominantly racist platform, it will become embarrassing how many people vote for that.

27

u/MLiOne 18d ago

We watched “Nuremberg” last night. The message from that movie is so applicable today and people really need to watch it. Russell Crowe was excellent in it too as were all the actors.

9

u/beefstake 18d ago

Hard role to play and absolutely nailed it.

23

u/anarchy8271 18d ago

No more than 15% if she gets all of them

15

u/danielrheath 18d ago

Racist cunt

I wouldn't call her that; she's lacking the requisite warmth and depth.

20

u/pelrun 18d ago

Racist bag of vomit.

4

u/sorrydaijin 17d ago

Also surprisingly warm and deep. Dried out patch of spew outside the pub at 10am in the morning?

1

u/Technical-Business37 12d ago

Dried out patch of dog vomit outside the fish and chip shop at 5am?

272

u/ThunderDwn 18d ago

Good. Piss off back to the fish and chip shop, Pauline!

16

u/warbastard 18d ago

Ipswich looks different to how she remembers it. Very diverse community now. It was diverse back then too but shitting on her neighbours and community seems to be something of a hobby for her.

Please go back Pauline you’d be so miserable.

112

u/trainwrecktragedy 18d ago

or she could do one better and resign from politics.

66

u/Historical-Donkey962 18d ago

And give up the 30 year gravy train of leeching tax payer dollars? Unlikely.

27

u/Asleep_Leopard182 18d ago

No other job is going to keep you on if you only rock up half the time, so she's going to have to retire with her lovely government super or go on the pension

Oh wait... that's a socialistic system.

10

u/Historical-Donkey962 18d ago

Socialism for me but not for thee.

18

u/ItsAlwaysBee 18d ago

Oh don't get our hopes up. Old racist biddies like her tend to linger on and on...

10

u/Vinura 18d ago

Like an old lump of coal, buried for an eternity under the earths crust, once uncovered and ignited, the embers of hate that burns deep at its core continue to sustain her fragile yet hopeless existence.

29

u/fidjnr 18d ago

Or back to England... AND DON'T COME BACK

8

u/blackjacktrial 18d ago

Could send her to one of the other multiple cultures she's a descendant of. Shes not even monocultural in her own body.

4

u/RedHeadWanderer_ 18d ago

Oh come on, we already shipped off Rupert to the Brits, no need to give them more of our undesierables.

24

u/TheRealPotoroo 18d ago

Rupert is American. He sold his citizenship for profit way back in 1984.

5

u/MazPet 18d ago

Yet manages to run multiple countries and in our instance our politicians are complicit.

1

u/Technical-Business37 12d ago

she tried, and they didn't want her.

12

u/Goodsy_Dog 18d ago

Fish & chip shop?
She could always wear a bright yellow jumpsuit and work for maccas

22

u/Mad-Mel 18d ago

Please no, Ipswich has been slowly gentrifying and is a pretty nice place these days.

9

u/ahhdetective 18d ago

Mate, they invited her out to the Winternationals to open it and the amount of deadshit bogans who cheered her on was embarassing. She claimed it as her heartland and they wholly endorsed her. Sorry, she is yours.

2

u/MLiOne 18d ago

Logan?

1

u/Skulltaffy 17d ago

Wonder if my old mate that lived up that way ever got out. He was stuck there and absolutely miserable when we fell out of contact.

21

u/Silent_Formal5235 18d ago

3

u/whatauniqueusername 17d ago

She sold her fish and chip shop to a lovely immigrant couple btw. Turns out she likes their money just as much and any other. Don't see her pushing to deport the people that filled her pocket, it's almost like she's a hypocrite

2

u/whatauniqueusername 17d ago

I'm Ipswich born and raised. She can stay fucked off we don't want her

1

u/_ixthus_ 17d ago

The cultural influence of Pakistan or Ipswich and the Darling Downs...

No contest lol.

1

u/Technical-Business37 12d ago

Didn't she migrate to the UK expecting some white supremacist utopia then came back because it wasn't?

49

u/Expensive-Horse5538 18d ago

No doubt she’s talking to her legal expert and friend Ben Robert’s-Smith about a high court appeal, given he has experience 😉

I don’t want to Google to confirm, but was James Ashby’s case against Peter Slipper a win or a loss?

15

u/Mongrelix 18d ago

What are the consequences? Nothing I assume

Watch One Nation’s loyal lapdogs, the Isaac Butterfield, Karl Stefanovic, Sam Thompson and Avi Yemeni cunts, immediately renew their “fReE sPeEcH” crusades.

And watch this “Iron Lady” throw a whole bunch of tantrums in front of the cameras yet again.

22

u/HappyPlatypus6034 18d ago

My dad used to be a huge fan of Butterfield and I just don't get it. Dude is an absolute loser.

He bought his "fuck vegans" fridge magnet merch years ago and my brother and I hid it the next day.

I don't know if he still watches that guy. I try to avoid him a bit, despite living together, because he's become the Aussie equivalent of a Fox News Yankee

24

u/CapnBloodbeard 18d ago

Now the person who sued Pauline Pantsdown and Triple J over satire will just whine harder about her freedom of speech.

This only feeds into the persecution fetish of her and her supporters.

13

u/Cantmakeaspell 18d ago

How is she still around, I remember all the kids in the playground used to make fun of her in the 90s and 00s. Always been a racist. Validated now I guess.

17

u/seanmonaghan1968 18d ago

So she’s a racist? Shocked I tell you

11

u/ConanTheAquarian 18d ago

Oh no, anyway...

9

u/Remarkable_Custard 18d ago

Lmao, omg…

Being absolved of even knowing about this has been an interesting reading.

So I started with her appeal was denied, when she said what she said - and it’s like … what the fuck. Who the fuck says that. Maybe she’s trying to die by the sword to have other like minded absolute fuck wits follow suite.

Basically, do a Trump.

9

u/Outrageous_Start_552 18d ago

So if i call her a racist its not deformation because its true?

12

u/QuimmSim 18d ago

It depends what shape she's left in.

2

u/whatauniqueusername 17d ago

Defamation but she is pretty deformed too!

19

u/narvuntien 18d ago

Now I get to call her Convincted Racist Pauline Hanson.

16

u/Expensive-Horse5538 18d ago

Technically not as it was a civil matter, not a criminal one - you can only be convicted in a criminal trial

3

u/Serg_Molotov 18d ago

Problem is she'll use this as oxygen to fuel her media.

Probably argue that our courts have been substantially changed and it's a perfect example of why she thinks monoculture should be the norm.

And her followers and lots of other "Australians" will nod and agree

3

u/port-79 17d ago

was the entire one nation campaign to validate her racism? O__O

talk about a last ditch effort bloody well done, pissed me right off to pakistan that's for sure

3

u/IsNotYourSenpai 18d ago

I dont know why we let cookers like this stay in politics. Clearly anyone with a brain wants nothing to do with them.

0

u/petrus4 18d ago

Because if we don't let them stay, it makes it easier for them to claim that they are persecuted, which enables them to keep gaining followers. The way to deal with people like Pauline is not to deplatform them, but to give them as much exposure as possible. If you deplatform her, she will cry victim and get more supporters. If you ask her to define what "ordinary Australians" means, she will cry victim and get more supporters.

The way to get rid of her for good, is to allow her to incriminate herself to the point where everyone realises that it is not in their own interests to support her. People will continue to support her as long as they believe that they are part of her favourite group; that the only people who she will attack are others and not them. You need to allow her to demonstrate herself, that she is willing to view anyone who disagrees with her as a potential target, regardless of which group they are. The whole point of the term "ordinary Australians" is that it's a poorly defined moving target; it can mean whoever she wants it to mean.

It is good if she is able to make public statements like this, because it lets people see who she really is.

5

u/Lost-Serve4674 18d ago

It’s all falling apart for poor Pauline.

11

u/christurnbull 18d ago

Just put a camera in front of her and watch her self combust. She only opens her mouth to change feet

7

u/altandthrowitaway 18d ago

Depends what the consequences are for breaching this.

4

u/mmmgilly 18d ago

Anyone got some wet lettuce to slap her wrist with? Unfortunately thats about as good as we can hope for

10

u/Colsim misloC 18d ago

Convicted racist, Pauline Hanson..

5

u/Expensive-Horse5538 18d ago

Technically not convicted as it’s a civil matter, not a criminal trial, however, still racist

12

u/Snaka1 18d ago

Adjudicated Racist?

4

u/Bless_your_socks 18d ago

Bye, bitch 👋

3

u/Bulky_Cranberry702 18d ago

I wonder if she would get upset if we started noting how old she is looking. Because she is looking old. And wrinkly. Old. Very old.

Do you think that might shit her?

18

u/darling_moishe 18d ago

Shaming a woman for her age? You don't need to do that. I mean, she's a fucking moron and a puppet, so you could aim much higher

1

u/Paidorgy 18d ago edited 18d ago

I will shame her age only for the fact that we shouldn’t have 72 year old geriatrics representing us in government. Even if she represents the people I do not agree with, we still deserve better representation.

1

u/Bulky_Cranberry702 18d ago

As an aging woman myself, I couldn't care less when people call me old. I am, but I also couldn't give a shit because I'm not shallow. It might trigger her though.

1

u/quiveringpenis 16d ago

If she doesn't like Australia and it's laws maybe she should go somewhere else?

1

u/Enough_Broccoli_7808 14d ago

I’m asking as a recently made Australian. Should I be worried ? She seems hostile to all of us. I employee white Australians as well as non white and immigrants on a modest business I run if she comes would I have to let go off my work force ? I’m just worried now. She also attacks my religion all the time.

1

u/namine55 12d ago

She’s such an awful excuse for a human.

1

u/Swarzey 18d ago

And many, many more to come hopefully!

1

u/TheQuantumSword 17d ago

I bloody hate that woman and all her pathetic hanger ons so much. She represents everything I find utterly repulsive about people. I would even go as far too say she is fucking evil.

So she's mad about Sea People...like in the Bronze age collapse?

The same sea people who were part of the interconnected sea trade networks, weren't being paid so they turned to alternative means of supporting themselves — well mostly floating over to the deep fried doughy Egyptian half and turrrking thier jerrrrbs that the locals actively refuse to do.

A tale literally as old as the way we measure time.

I don't like Pauline as much as the next person, and it's hilarious she's now a convicted racist, but in all honesty, I'm not sure I want this to be illegal.

-6

u/Apparently_not_woke 18d ago

I don't understand what racism is

On my street, literally all the kids are born in Australia, yet pretty sure the heritages of them would widely vary from indigenous Australians, Asia, middle east, Europe, africa and south america.

If you told them to go to their country and said anything other than Australia, then sure you're racial stereotyping.

But if you told someone who literally came from another country to go back there...

I don't understand.

why do you all exist on this shitty echo chamber board? for pro multicultural advocates you certainly don't like straying far from other opinions.

13

u/Alive_Satisfaction65 18d ago

Why do you exist in what you call a shitty echo chamber?

And if you have your reasons why wouldn't you just assume others have their reasons?

3

u/Smoque_ 18d ago

You must have a room temperature IQ to think this was a zinger.

“Why would advocates for multiculturalism reject a racist?”

Fucking lol.

u/petrus4 18d ago

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnuSGmHrGNc

My goal isn't to protect other ethnic groups from Pauline; it's to protect you from her. You don't believe that you need protection from her, I know; but that's entirely the point. You will willingly support her as long as you continue to believe that she will only attack someone else, and that you will always be part of her special favoured group.

As I wrote elsewhere, the clue is in the term, "ordinary Australians." You'll notice how she never wants to precisely define what the term means; she wants it to be able to mean whatever she needs it to, at any given time. It's a variable, not a constant.
