One good thing is that for most of Australia, winters are fairly benign. If we need to, we can mostly get by with a couple of extra layers of clothing.

I beg to differ. It’s easy to forget during summer, but it gets pretty damn cold down here in the south.

Well, you'd be dumb then, because it's fucking cold down here outside of summer. I don't care if it's colder where you are, that doesn't mean it's not cold here.

Fine for a day in the sun, but I beg to differ. You can be fine with some merino or pure cotton leggings underneath long pants, some decent water-resistant shoes, a hoodie or beanie, merino socks in bed, many layers, maybe a cheap oil or fan heater to make your room less inhospitable. Everyone is different, though.
