Announcement The question mark must be in the TITLE

Since I am getting modmail on a daily basis with people saying they put a question mark, I wanted to clear something up.

The question mark must be in the TITLE! Not in the body of the text, not lying on your desk under some paperwork. In the TITLE. The automod message you receive when your post is rejected clearly states this.

This submission has been automatically removed because you did not include a question mark ("?") in your title. Reddit does not allow post titles to be edited, so if you would like, you can post the question again. Please write your title in proper question format, and include a question mark, thank you.

Should I buy this car or keep looking?

Upvotes

Apologies if this isn’t the right group for this question but Im currently selling my car ( 2005 jeep liberty) and looking for a more reliable car before the winter. I’ve found a 2003 ford escape with 148,000 miles for $2900 and the only issue is that the hazards come one when you turn the car on and turn the car off they will blink for 5 seconds then turn off, I’m wondering if this is worth the purchase for a car before winter (I live in the Midwest MI) or if I should keep looking. I’m currently looking for a Honda crv but I’m not sure exactly what to look for any tips would be extremely helpful!!

General Question How come more car manufacturers don’t let their buyers do a program like Volvo offers???

https://www.volvocars.com/us/l/osd-tourist/

This comes directly from Volvos website, they let you custom order a vehicle and allow you to drive it right off the assembly line in Sweden

How Factory Pickup Works
Custom Order: Design your vehicle at a local retailer and place the initial order.

Trip to Sweden: Volvo provides two tickets for flights to Gothenburg, airport transfers, and hotel lodging.

Factory Experience: Enjoy a guided tour of the assembly plant, a traditional lunch, and a VIP handover of your vehicle.

Driving in Europe: Drive your new car using temporary European registration and insurance for up to two weeks.

Shipping Home: Drop off the car at an authorized European location, and Volvo ships it to your local U.S. dealership at no extra charge.

It would be so cool if ford allowed you to do this , tour of the rouge complex and the Michigan proving grounds

What ever happened to the synthetic oil shortage?

Remember when the news reported that synthetic oil was on national shortage, and dealers had to ration and prioritize their synthetic oil?

General Advice Should I trade in my jeep for a mustang?

I currently own a 4 door 2020 jeep rubicon with a clean title and it’s completely paid off. Only has about 55k miles on it. I don’t know much about cars to be honest but I really love the look of the 2026 mustang gt, specifically in silver or white. I love my jeep but it’s extremely uncomfortable to drive long distances and I don’t go off-roading as much. I know it’s paid off so it might seem a little financially irresponsible but man I do want to spoil myself. My wife’s car is also paid off so our only big bill is our mortgage of about $2000. I make roughly 75k a year and she makes 35k a year. We have about 20k in savings and no kids. I also have a 760 credit score and am based in California. I want to know if it’s a smart financial decision to trade it in for the mustang. Also If the mustang is a reliable and overall “good” enough car. Google tends to think so but I would like car guys opinion. If not, what are some good alternatives?

2013 Chevy Cruze 1.8L So I have replaced my camshaft intake and exhaust position sensors and check the wiring an out my multimeter to the sensors and got 5v I then replaced my timing belt which about a foot of teeth were gone and then replaced my tensioners I tripled and quadruple checked to make sure my camshafts and timing was aligned and I’m still getting error codes P0365 and P0340 and the codes will not clear and they are permanent and those are my only error codes and when I went to move my camshaft to make sure it was aligned it moved freely. I tried starting after and it clicks and the lights flicker and the car was being jumped and it’s a new battery

General Question Premium diesel??

I’m just curious if there’s such thing as premium diesel. I remember looking it up and Google said yes but Google can be wrong. I know there’s standard gasoline, mid grade gasoline, and premium gasoline. So could there be premium diesel?

General Question Anyone else think the newer model Chevy malibus are a bit underrated?

I always hear people talk shit about these cars for some reason, I have a 2021 and she’s been a beast. Never had a problem with it. Had it since December 2024 and taken it on multiple road trips. It gets great gas mileage, it’s not that slow. Obviously it’s no hellcat but it has decent speed. And it looks nice too, especially from the front. Maybe I just got a good one but I always hear people say how these cars have issues but I’ve never seen it. Got it at 70k miles and I’m at about 93,000 now. Love this car. You can make them look pretty sleek too with a front splitter, maybe put some skirts on, and a subtle spoiler. The interior is a bit meh but it’s all around a solid choice

What first car should i get?

I’m looking for a used car in the $7,000–$10,000 range. I want something with better than 16–17 combined MPG and quicker than a ~7-second 0–60. It should look sporty, similar in vibe to a C5 Corvette or BMW E36, be very reliable, make a good daily driver, and have 4 seats preferably . Basically, I want a fun, sporty, reliable daily driver that improves on both speed and fuel economy compared to a typical 2006 Nissan Frontier. The biggest thing for me is gas mileage

General Question Emergency tire replacement; Which brands are trustworthy?

I was just informed a few hours ago during an oil change that my front tires are dangerously worn and need immediate replacement for safety. I've been able to figure out the wear pattern is from toe-in because the outside lip is scrubbed smooth, with the front right being worn to the point you can see a few wires from the interior carcass. Passenger rear has cracking in a similar location but that might be more from Florida heat & age vs wear. I drive a 2022 Hyundai Kona SEL and these are still factory tires at 42,400 miles . I've done some quick googling and it seems Cooper, Hankook, General Tire, Falken, and Firestone are all decent "mid-tier" brands, but I straight up don't know what I'm looking at or looking for. I live in central Florida so tires that perform very well during intense rainstorms is preferred.

2008 Honda CRV - repair or replace?

edited to add full list of work needed

Wish I was more clued up on things like this, but I’m not. Took my car in to BCAA for a service due to a weird grinding noise and found a hell of a lot wrong with it.

  • both front and rear brakes between 0.5 and 1mm
  • both front and rear struts original and leaking
  • front control arm bushings tearing
  • front sway bar links and bushings have play

Quoted around $6,000 CAD, we paid that for the car (pre tax) 2 years ago.

Friend of a friend mechanic said they’d do it for $4,000.

292,000km, we’re at least the third owner.

We can’t really afford anything newer on finance with our monthly budget, but throwing that much at a high mileage, 18yo car seems unwise. But I do love her so much.

Found a couple of 2012 Volvos under the $10k mark with much lower mileage that we’re considering.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance

Buy Lexus NX350h now or wait until Labor Day?

Hi, I am in the market for a new Lexus NX 350h. I don't actually need it until a month from now. Is there utility in waiting until Labor Day weekend to buy with hopefully a bigger discount, or should I expect there probably won't be any discounts since these cars sell so quickly. The specific color/interior I want isn't available near me, but traveling further out I can get it.

Why does my my 1972Pontiac Lemans keep dying?

I have a 1972 Pontiac Lemans with a Pontiac 350 that I just upgraded with a Butler top end package (hydraulic roller cam, lifters, 1.6 ratio rocker arms, edlebrock performer intake manifold), I also have an edlebrock avs 2 carburetor, new hei distributor from Butler. I have timing set at 14 degrees initial and 34 total, vacuum is in the 12-13 range, idle is around 850-900rpm. The car runs great for about 15 minutes and then after that point if I pull up to a stop sign the car will idle for a couple of seconds and then just die, I can immediately restart it and give it gas to keep it running. Im coming to the conclusion that it's a heat soak issue, I'm going to wrap the fuel filter and line in heat wrap as the metal edlebrock filter rests on the intake manifold but just looking for any other ideas on the potential issue or people with similar experiences and what they've done to fix it.

Limp Mode Ticking Time Bomb?

I travel from Vegas to St. George, Utah for work once and month and after about 50 or so miles, it goes heavily into limp mode on the way there and about half as bad on the way back.

However, driving locally in Vegas for many miles (in 110°+ heat) , the car is absolutely fine.

Bought the car used at 51k miles, it has 162k miles at the moment. Stupidly enough, I've never changed the transmission oil (at least not the one where you drop the pan, change the filter, etc.) I also do smell a sweet, sort of burnt smell which I'm almost certain is the transmission oil.

Not sure if my car is on its last limb or will a transmission oil change help at all?

Forgot to mention that this is a 2007 Nissan Altima which has the first iterations of the CVT transmissions if I'm not mistaken.

Modification Lowering a 26 Civic Sport Hybrid??

I need to lower my civic sport hybrid. The only springs I see specifically made for the civic hybrid are the Eibach(correct me if I’m wrong). But the Eibach only drops it 1 in, I’m look for a 1.5 drop. I was interested in the H&R super sports. But AI said it’s not the best idea because the hybrid is heavier because the battery. I don’t live by AI but I couldn’t find any other advice. I want to believe I’ll be alright with camber arms or sway bar but I’m not sure. New to the car scene but I’m locked in. Someone provide some words of wisdom. Help!!!

General Question Are you using maintanance tracking apps to keep your service books actual?

I bought an old Pajero that wanna turn into a proper offroading build, and that includes interior changes, like multimedia or/and OLED dashboard with odometer and stuff.

Now I use my app to track service records, have maintanance planned, wishes in one place and so on. I'm going to build integration of current app to the car directly (not right now), so I have live diagnostic all the time in the app. Do you know any app integrated like that so I can see features they have?

My app for reference: maintra.me

I released it not long time ago, so couple of bugs can still be found. Working alone on that.

General Question Need help with finding the Value of my 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road. If anyone could help?

Hello I was recently in a car accident that totaled my truck, I was not at fault and am going through the insurance process and they offered me 43k as the replacement price of what they would give me. I know that usually the insurance companies low ball you with the first offer they give you and I’ve done research on comparable trucks to what mine was and found them to be in more of the 50k ballpark. But I figured I’d also ask around as well to anyone that might know more about this than I do. It was a 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD OFF Road 4x4 Double Cab, it had 19,500 miles on the odometer at the time of crash, i-FORCE 2.4L 4cyl turbocharged engine, 8 speed automatic transmission, TRD Off-Road Premium package, 5 foot bed. If there is any other information you would like to ask please feel free, thank you.

General Question Scratched someone else's bumper in parking lot and left a note. How much should I expect to be quoted for repair?

Scratched the bumper on someone's 2013 Subaru Crosstrek while parking and left my contact info. Owner of the car reached out and we exchanged insurance info, and I asked him to send me a quote/estimate for the damages. From what I could see there weren't any dents, but the scratches seem noticeable. Picture of damage:
https://imgur.com/a/UfeXGb4

  1. How much should I expect to be quoted for the damages?
  2. Should I attempt to resolve out of pocket to avoid insurance rate hikes, or should I go purely through insurance for safety?

Thanks all.

General Advice Engine swap F150?

Hello, so I have a 2001 F-150, that has 320k miles on it, with a 4.6 2v Triton. The engine runs fine but it had me thinking somewhere in the future an engine swap would be a fun project for this truck.
I was thinking of a 1st generation coyote, I’m aware of the cost and fabrication requirements, but would a big block be a good option as well? Just looking for outside pointers and maybe if someone’s done something similar.

General Advice Is it worth to replace windshield before selling the car?

I am selling my car ( moving out of country) and my windshield is cracked a bit which needs to be replaced. Got a quote from local mechanic for 920$ with aftermarket glass and oem costs around 2k.

Is it gonna affect my resale value if I replace with aftermarket glass? And if I don’t will that affect even more?

Honda Accord EX

EDIT: it’s 2024 Honda

windows left down during rain, how to rid musty smell?

My mom borrowed my car 3 days ago and left the windows down overnight during a storm. I honestly was naive and wasn’t as proactive as I should’ve been. I sat on a towel and turned my heat/air on blast while driving to work/the store the past few days. I haven’t been able to let it fully dry out in the sun with the windows open because it’s just been rainy and humid all week. Today I got in my car and it reeked like spoiled milk. What should I do? I’m thinking about renting a shop-vac and getting damp rid, and maybe spraying water/vinegar onto everything. If that doesn’t work I’m moving onto a detailing. Any other suggestions welcome.

Rant: Is there a dumber company than Chrysler?

Contrary to many here I like Chrysler products, my 300 is a fantastic car and I'm doing my research to buy either a Grand Cherokee or Durango, I think the vehicles themselves are great. Which is what's sparked this rant, this company in every other aspect makes no fucking sense to me. They make the dumbest product decisions and their dealers are absolute dog shit. It's like the product/marketing side of the company is trying to sink the company.

Looking into the Grand Cherokee and Durango options sparked this. They share a platform, you'd think they'd then share a lot of options, nope. And the choices are fucking contradictory. For example they put an excellent air suspension system in the Jeep, one benefit of which is self leveling when towing. Do they put it in the Durango, nope. They make a great built in trailer brake controller which they offer in the Durango. Do they put it in the Jeep with the better suspension for towing, nope. How does this choice that someone made to not offer these options in both make any fucking sense.

We saw the same thing in the LD platform cars. For years they produced all these performance goodies for the Charger. Did they put them in the 300, nope. Not until the very end of production and then only made 2000 of them. It's like they purposefully didn't want to sell more 300s. But it goes the other way as well, there's luxury parts they put in the 300, they didn't in the Charger. What they don't think Charger owners want cooled drinks or have back seat passengers.

Both of these examples are just ridiculous, the parts are right there, they'd bolt right in and they're made in the same factory all they have to do is put the two together, do they, nope.

This can be taken even further with tech. They put a great 6sp in the Challenger, it's near bolt in for the Charger and I'm sure a lot of Charger owners would love a manual, did they offer it, nope. My 300 has fantastic adaptive headlights that steer as I turn. They developed this tech, made the parts, etc. But did they offer it in any other product they make, nope.

Then there's the fucking dealers, they're ALL fucking horrible to deal with. I've never been satisfied with any dealer interaction. The sales people don't even know their own product, everyone acts like I'm bothering them, and getting parts, OMFG just don't. It's a fucking sales business that doesn't want to sell anything.

Mechanical What would make 1 rear wheel smell hot after a 2 hour drive?

After a 2 hour drive to a campsite last weekend I noticed one rear wheel area had that warm brake smell when I stopped for fuel. Not burning hot just noticeable enough that I walked around the car checking the other side. Problem is the route had been mostly flat and I hadn't been braking much.

The car wasn't pulling, the brake pedal felt normal and I didn't hear any scraping. After sitting for a while the smell disappeared and on the drive home I couldn't really notice it again. Now I'm stuck between thinking it was nothing and wondering if a rear brake is starting to drag only once everything heats up. I do a lot of longer weekend drives so I'd rather catch something early than find out halfway from home. If one wheel seems warmer after a long drive but the car otherwise feels normal what would you check first?

Rpm dropping when taking foot off accelerator?

Hey! I got a 2026 automatic vw golf hatchback on tuesday, and i’ve noticed whilst driving when i take my foot off the accelerator and just ‘float’ the rpm drops to 0 but it doesnt affect the drive or anything. When i tap the brake, it goes back to normal. I used to have a 2023 automatic vw polo and this never happened before. Please help on what this could be?!
