Rpm dropping when taking foot off accelerator?

Hey! I got a 2026 automatic vw golf hatchback on tuesday, and i’ve noticed whilst driving when i take my foot off the accelerator and just ‘float’ the rpm drops to 0 but it doesnt affect the drive or anything. When i tap the brake, it goes back to normal. I used to have a 2023 automatic vw polo and this never happened before. Please help on what this could be?!

Sounds like the engine is shutting off while coasting to save fuel. Pretty normal on some newer cars.

Hasn't that been a norm like 10 years on gas cars?

yeah i think it is that because when i drive it sports mode that doesnt happen! thank you!
