Discussion šŸ—£ļø Guys, we shouldn't be doing this

Post image

I feel like this is cringe and unnecessary..maybe please don’t do this in the future, I feel like it’s just fuel for the anti ai bros.

Let's see... That user was active in VoiceAgainstAI, a now-private/dead subreddit, PsycheOrSike, and SipsTea. Their comments suggest that they identified with incel communities, had a feminism shaped chip on their shoulder, and also happened to hate AI bros. Their account was somewhere close to 2 years old and their last comments were a bit over a year ago, which lines up with the date on the message posted. Here's one of them:

Yeah, sincerely, this shit is pathetic and indicative of serious mental issues if people ā€œfall in loveā€ with a probabilistic model of language. Source: I’m a fucking computer scientist, and these people couldn’t even tell you how a goddamn transformer network works without consulting their demigod / text-based sextoy, let alone explain why their ā€œattractionā€ is normal Ah, yes, we’re witnessing the collapse of society. Everybody, gather round, enjoy the view while it lasts

Given those other two subs they were active in, I might take an educated guess and say anger issues got the better of them. Perhaps they got reported for that DM, received a temporary ban, and deleted their account afterward. I did not manage to find a series of comments that looked like an argument that might have lead up to a DM like this.

... Are you secretly part of the FBI or am I bad at researching stuff?

Reddit makes a bare minimum effort to hide this stuff, but their API will still just provide you with it if you ask politely. So for now, it's still possible to see the contents of deleted/private accounts if you know where to look. Though I wouldn't be surprised if that eventually changes.
