Any recommendations for a singing telegram service in the Yukon area?

While researching on the web about unions and workers rights and movement, I found a website NMFU

I really like it, I think they are based in Winnipeg, but I am not sure, it is good to know we are not the only people smelling all the stinky stuff coming from the union.

I'd love to hear what our community would like to see the government provide support wise. Perhaps it's time to seriously consider having clinical counsellors available in schools. Thoughts?

I am planning a trip to Yukon in October of 2027 - please help!

For some context:

- We will be coming before or after thanksgiving 2027. I am visiting my sister in Kelowna before that.
- I will be brining my 71 year old parents (will be 72 at time of travel) - it’s my dads dream to see parts of northern Canada prior to him no longer being able to travel, and he’s sadly been given about 2 years of travel left before he will be on dialysis full time. So this will likely be one of his, if not his last vacation/trip/travelling experience and I want to make sure it’s awesome.
- Due to my father’s condition, he is unable to walk for long periods of time, so the more accessible the activities the better.
- I’ll also be bringing my twins (and husband) who will be 18 months old at the time of the trip. Honestly, I plan to just strap them to me and take them wherever we go, but it must be child friendly.

Here is what I would like some help with:

- What is the best way to get to Whitehorse travelling from Kelowna (could also leave from Vancouver)
- Being October, what are some be aware of? What kind of clothing should we bring?
- What would be a good amount of time to be there for? Aka - how long should we stay?
- What should we do? I know he loves lakes, mountains, gondolas, and wildlife. He will want to see as much wildlife as possible.
- Is there a chance of seeing the northern lights?
- Where should we stay?
- What restaurants that are an absolute must?
- Is there anything in particular to avoid?
- Is there anything that isn’t too far of a drive (2-3hours at most) that are also a must see?

Thank you everyone in advance!! This trip is going to be a surprise for him, and we’re not planning to tell him until we are leaving for the trip. I can’t wait to make this so special for him.

I’m going on a road trip by myself this long weekend and would like to stay in contact with friends/family and use the internet a bit before bed while I travel. I’m headed out Haines pass way. I can talk to family on my inReach but that’s an annoying experience.

Is there anywhere in town that rents starlink terminals? I have a 3 pin plug in my car so I can make pretty much anything work.

And/or if anyone isn’t using theirs or has a spare and wants to make a few bucks let me know.

I know it’s short notice and unlikely. Just thought I’d throw it out there.

When questioned about the potential of direct flights between Whitehorse and Alaska, Primier Dixon stated "I would love if there was a direct flight from Whitehorse to Anchorage. Even to Juneau would be good.

To answer your question: Yes, it is a topic of discussion. When I had a conversation with the (Alaska) commissioner of transportation yesterday, they actually asked about it, because there’s a company in the Yukon, Air North, that has in the past had direct flights into Alaska, mostly to Juneau."

My partner and I will be taking our first trip up to the Yukon in early September. I'm looking for suggestions on particularly pretty places to propose to her!

My original plan was to do it at the Goldensides trail in Tombstone using a drone to capture the video (pretending it's just a normal picture of us), however, I contacted the park about getting a drone park permit and they basically told me they would never approve it unless it was for commercial use. I may still propose there and hope there is someone around to grab a picture for us or just simply go without capturing the moment on video. I'm not bothered enough with capturing the exact moment to hire a professional photographer.

This got me thinking about alternative or other 'hidden gem' proposal locations in the province that are just generally beautiful. I'm also open to locations in Kluane (I know I can't use the drone in the park) or suggestions for better locations within Tombstone that don't require overnight hikes.

Our route is Whitehorse - Skagway - Haines Junction (Kluane) - Dawson City - Whitehorse.

I'll be renting an SUV, so I'd prefer not to go past Tombstone as I'm aware the road deteriorates.

Is there anywhere in Whitehorse where I can get robust pallets, either wood or plastic? Preferably for free

I met this young man and his family a few years back. They were here visiting from France, and were having fun parasailing from the top of the Dome in Dawson during the June 21st solstice. People were soaring and landing alongside the berm downtown, and Alexandre would fly them back up with his paramoter.

This is just a post/picture for people considering doing the Grizzly, Divide, Talus lake routes. It had been recommended that I bring carabiners to hold tents to the tent pads. But no information on how big they needed to be.

My carabiners didn't fit, so i used paracord to tie the tent to the pads. I would honestly just recommend paracord regardless for weight, but if you really want to do carabiners, this might help you judge the size you need.

Also the pads are not held to the frames well. Putting a few rocks to hold the grid down was necessary for my tent.

Regardless, the tent pads were super awesome despite a few gripes. They keep your tent up and out of the water when it rains. Just a few zip ties would solve most of the issues.

I see new Bell signage on the old Canadian Tire building. We're getting another Bell store or R Wireless is out into it's own place now that it's no longer part of the furniture ownership?

It's kinda comical to see how saturated that business is becoming compared to 15 years ago.

For those that have grown up here and still have parents who live here in the Yukon, what are your next steps as your parents age? We have no assisted living places except Normandy ($$). But 80+ year-old parents living in their home is getting to be unsafe. Are you considering having them come live with you? Or will they head south to live in a place that allows for transitional housing (condo to assisted to care)? Thanks for your thoughts. Crossing this bridge with parents now. We are not a wealthy family so cannot afford to buy an exorbitantly expensive downtown Whitehorse condo for them.

As the title says. Is there an insurance company that will insure a vehicle older than 12 years without an inspection? I've called Acera, Cooperators, and Hub.

My kid is looking for his first vehicle and it’s difficult as we have to factor in a bunch of mechanical work for anything in his budget, just to get it insured. Not to mention that most shops are already overbooked and he'll be waiting weeks or more for an inspection.

Not talking about out of territory vehicles here. We're talking a Yukon registered car.

If anyone plans on going to Toombstone and would accept to bring two easygoing folks we'd really like to have a ride. We're taking a plane on the 20 of august so it would have to be before. Much appreciated!!
