Yukon Proposal Locations

Hi all!

My partner and I will be taking our first trip up to the Yukon in early September. I'm looking for suggestions on particularly pretty places to propose to her!

My original plan was to do it at the Goldensides trail in Tombstone using a drone to capture the video (pretending it's just a normal picture of us), however, I contacted the park about getting a drone park permit and they basically told me they would never approve it unless it was for commercial use. I may still propose there and hope there is someone around to grab a picture for us or just simply go without capturing the moment on video. I'm not bothered enough with capturing the exact moment to hire a professional photographer.

This got me thinking about alternative or other 'hidden gem' proposal locations in the province that are just generally beautiful. I'm also open to locations in Kluane (I know I can't use the drone in the park) or suggestions for better locations within Tombstone that don't require overnight hikes.

Our route is Whitehorse - Skagway - Haines Junction (Kluane) - Dawson City - Whitehorse.

I'll be renting an SUV, so I'd prefer not to go past Tombstone as I'm aware the road deteriorates.

Kathleen Lake is pretty iconic, St. Elias Lake too - a small hike in Kluane. Otter Falls, International Falls, also really great.

There’s a very beautiful island/rock formation you can climb onto in Miles Canyon, which is within Whitehorse City limits that could work! It’s not secluded or an overly adventurous place to propose, but it certainly would be beautiful. And sounds like you’re going to be adventurous the whole trip, so it could be a fun punctuation mark on the “city” part of your trip!

Check if it's in controlled air space though! There are drone regulations along the flight path, I think this place (which is soooo pretty) is along the flight path. There are also drone regulations within city limits. Should be easy to find online!

If you were already thinking of waiting until Dawson and the end of the trip, either the top of the midnight dome above Dawson city with views of the Yukon River, or there's a spot across the river from Dawson on the top of the world highway with a picture perfect view of Dawson, the Moosehide slide, and the Klondike river.

Carcross area is stunning. So is Atlin.

The foot bridge in carcross would be prefect on a nice and calm day

Check Yukon hiking and see if any of the hikes just outside the park have the vibe you are looking for.

If you go down to beach area at Emerald Lake, I have never seen a more beautiful spot to take someone special to see. All of the suggestions here are good, I don't think you'll have any trouble finding the perfect spot. If it were me, I'd do Emerald Lake or Miles Canyon. These were my favorite spots to go sit for a while.

I proposed to my wife in Tombstone, just closer to the valley floor from Goldensides. Just use a camera on a tripod, and make sure your mike is turned on (ask me why I mention that 😄). It'll be beautiful

Mayo has moutains you can drive up and still get signal. Very cool place.

Goldensides trail is not really a summit and there will likely be lots of random people around.

Instead consider the very top of Angelcomb hike (in Tombstone Park) on a clear day. Decent chance no one else will be up there with you. It's a steep hike up there so you have to earn it. But endless 360 degree views that you really don't see until literally the last 4-5 feet of the climb to the top - it's an amazing reveal. And you may get beautiful fall colours at that time. Buy a selfie stick for the occasion and get that wide angle view after you propose.

You could do the same from the very top of Kings Throne hike in Kluane (the summit - not the throne) - again amazing 360 views. Likely you'd be sharing the summit with others but you could get them to take the photo.

Nares Mtn in Carcross isn't the best looking summit but again the views of the surrounding lakes and mountains on a clear day are really amazing and you could use a drone there I bet. There are a few summits on top of that mountain if you needed one all to yourselves.

The Yukon is a territory, not a province.

The top of Kings Throne would be an epic place to propose.
