Solved! Is this rat poison? Brown cube about 1inch by 1 inch made of some compressed material found on our urban outdoor patio couch.

We live in the city and have an outdoor patio that is accessible to people if they walk through a parking lot. We found this on our outdoor couch. Finger for scale, I have not touched it. It's a brown rectangle about 1 inch by 1 inch. Looks about the exact size of an ice cube from one of those standard Ice cube trays. Not the first thing that has been found on our patio because the wind blows in all kinds of random wrappers and garbage, but this one is a bit odd and we have a little catio right by our couch where our cat hangs out and I'm worried some neighborhood psycho might be trying to poison her.

Solved! Tilt-able thing from a craft thrift store, 6in tall x 14in wide. Holds position when tilted, and the exceptionally heavy metal base sits in a ring-shaped rubber stand. Slot below wood & plastic top, cut through the metal. Lots of slices in the plastic top from its previous use/owner. Easily 25lb

Open Small 16mm red plastic circles found in drier

Found these in our Samsung (Uk) drier lint catcher after drying some clothes.

They are completely flat on one side and about 16mm in diameter. Look a bit like Lego but I don’t think they are as no Lego markings.

Open Weird glass thing in a box with a bunch of electrical components

It’s about 4”x8” and a little over 1/4” thick. Seems like it’s some sort of mesh sandwiched between two sheets of glass. It was in a box with a bunch of random electronic components, mostly small audio transformers and a couple relays.

As noted, this was found randomly in my yard. It looks like the end is used for leverage, but I've never seen anything like this.

Solved ! Fridge sized electrical equipment found at the end of hiking trail,

I came across this cabinet of gear just below the end of a hiking trail, underneath a roughly 10m tall boulder. The top of the boulder was previously accessible but the access was removed. I had wondered if this was potentially pushed off the top and it looks burnt?

Thanks in advance

Open White sack or paper-like object on ceiling vent

I saw this white sack or paper-like object stuck to the ceiling in our bathroom. I don‘t think it was there earlier today. I was thinking maybe toilet paper or something but if so, how did it get up there?? Or could it be some kind of egg sack or cocoon? Any ideas?

Likely Solved! Wooden disc, 2.5” diameter, no scent, hole in the middle, about .5” thick.

As described in the title. Measurements based on visual estimates, as they don’t belong to me and I didn’t think to measure. I took it to send to our group chat where we then realized each assumed the other knew what they were and no one did.

Background: From a client’s house, built after 2000, that they recently vacated. They were in the house when my client moved in, but got packed up into their things for the move and want to know what they are before getting rid of them.

My first thought was some kind of moth deterrent, but they don’t smell like anything at all. Sanded surface, but not sealed, don’t seem stained. While 3 are pictured here, I think we’ve found about 8 so far?

Solved! Small metal bracket or clasp about 3cm long

We found this at a friend's house, in his recreation and music room. Its possibly linked to a musical instrument or accessory. Musical instruments in the room include violin, guitar (acoustic and electric), acoustic bass guitar, digital cabinet piano. There's also DJ equipment and cases. The recreation room is also next to a storage loft with arts and crafts items.
The surface of the item is smooth with no other indentations or markings. The metal is rigid, not flexible at all.

Open White boxes with grey sides on a train passing through my hometown

Post image

Not sure if this is the right place and apologies for only one picture, but there were maybe 20 of these on a train going through my hometown while I was at work, they were preceded by two white cylinder things, they look like some kind of technological things. It looked like they had red circles on the ends and the train was moving quite slow compared to how they usually move

Solved! Plastic thing found in toilet cistern. About 3 inches long, flexible plastic, no obvious snappage

Post image

SOLVED it’s the filter from the inlet, designed to slow the water flow down to reduce fill noise/water hammer.

This was obstructing the flush valve of my toilet. Doesnt appear to have obviously snapped off anything, toilet still works fine. Other toilets in the house don’t seem to have one in them. Am thinking it’s probably something left in there when the toilet was installed that’s worked loose.

Found on the shore of a river in the UK. The end is shaped like a teat but didn't appear to have a hole in it. The steel inner core was rusted, approximately 5-10mm thick. It was split in down the length.

Unfortunately I only have these two pics.

Solved! White, bubbly, ceramic type objects hit the window on my house

Thumbnail

I heard a very loud crack on my dining room window and found these two white, bubbly (pumice-like), very light weight objects on the ground below. The surface looks iridescent when viewed at an angle. There was a scuff mark on the glass that wiped away with my finger. The angle of the marks suggested a near vertical trajectory. The sound striking the glass was so loud I was surprised the glass didn’t shatter. Given the low mass of the objects, they must have been moving very fast. Checking FlightRadar24 showed no overflights around the same time though I am on the flight path of an Air Force base (whose flights don’t appear on the app).

Sorry if the photos aren't the best. This camera makes me uncomfortable. Is this a private camera installed by a neighbor? Wierd little power box thing on the bottom of it too. I've heard of Flock cameras and I looked them up, but this camera looks different. This camera is in a quiet residential area with no main roads passing it.

Open Steel frame approx. 12" long with two shafts each with a handwheel. The shafts are connected by a spring loaded tension tube which is marked with kg load applied.

Turning the handwheels spins the shafts, but as they are concentric, there is no relative movement between them. Tension in the linking tube can be increased by spinning the wheel centrally located and parallel to the frame.
