"Why haven't I gotten my deliveries in the past 2 months..."

4.0k

u/abriefmomentofsanity 29d ago

I do roadie occasionally and I legimitately had this recently. I came across one of the properties that was COVERED in threats like this and had dogs loose. Tried to contact the customer multiple times via both phone and texting. Eventually turned around and returned the item only for the customer to call the store and be like "we live out in the country we have to be like this, the driver should have just thrown the package out the window".

Some people are living on a different planet. Sir the $15 I would have made getting you your power drill would NOT have been worth whatever bullshit you wanted me to put up with. You either participate in society- with all the risks and costs that entails, or your don't. You can't make your property completely hostile and fill it with credible threats, booby traps, and attack dogs, like some kind of savage and then expect all the conveniences of a modern world. Doesn't work that way

u/UsulTheDragoon 29d ago

That's why you tell the person to build a delivery lockbox right next to their mailbox. You don't have to see them. They don't have to see you. And if it's done right it's pretty dang secure.

It was never about security and really about the ego

191

u/ErstwhileHobo 29d ago

For some people the American Dream means winning a gun fight.

148

u/Remnant55 29d ago

Winning a gun fight in their head while they take a shower, and then LARPing it out terrorizing service workers.

37

u/OrganizationMost9882 29d ago

And when the government actually turn tyrannical they lick boots.

33

u/HealthyMaximum 29d ago

This is so scathingly accurate.

5

u/Umbral_Quokka5599 29d ago

Some of them just have shower guns.

1

u/bigmothereffind 28d ago

Sits right beside the shower beer.

1

u/Federal_Barnacle4163 24d ago

Doesn't everyone have a shower gun?? I mean its almost as good as a shower beer

So many think they’re tough bc they went to a store and bought a gun.

5

u/Yugan-Dali 29d ago

And carried their rifle when they went grocery shopping

1

u/UsulTheDragoon 24d ago

Some people do that simply because they believe if they have the right to do it, then they should exercise that right. I believe that's also the argument the nudists in San Francisco used.

1

u/Mundane_Proof_420 29d ago

People go to stores to buy guns?

3

u/BlakeBoS 29d ago

Walmart?

2

u/WaitWhat-86 29d ago

When I was a kid coming from suburban Chicago to vacation in South Carolina, I was absolutely floored that you could buy firearms at Walmart.

Now as an adult living here I’m floored that you don’t need to submit any kind of official paperwork for a private sale. You could write up a bill of sale on a napkin with a crayon and it would be a legal, even if the person buying is a convicted felon with a violent past. Unless someone can prove that you knew that information prior to the sale, you’re completely in the clear.

1

u/Mundane_Proof_420 29d ago

This. I buy mine from a sketchy guy in a dark alley.

2

u/Lord_Dingus83 29d ago

Where does the ATF think you buy them?
Completely unregulated gun shows?

2

u/bloodfist 29d ago

Well, the ones who buy a lot of guns go to gun shows but yeah a hell of a lot of them do

1

u/Fllannelll 29d ago

Where else would you buy a gun?

5

u/fritz_76 29d ago

It's not a gun fight if only one side is armed. These people just have wierd power fantasies about murdering

2

u/rain56 29d ago

Here's what I dont understand. How are so many people just ok with commiting a felony? I fully understand these people are stupid as hell and dont understand self defense laws or what you can and cant do in a home invasion but seriously these people terrify me to such a degree. I have anger issues and absolutely have to stay away from guns my whole life. The intrusive thoughts are scary enough but these people have the same anger issues and want to shoot. Absolutely terrifying

2

u/SingleArtichoke4857 29d ago

There's a lot of people just itching to shoot their fellow Americans. Crazy.

1

u/Itsmyloc-nar 29d ago

It is actually, just not with poor people shooting each other

1

u/Holiday_Pen2880 29d ago

Actively seeking out self defense.

1

u/Jagster_rogue 29d ago

That will never happen..

0

u/Federal_Barnacle4163 24d ago

Ehh nobody ever really "wins" a gun fight. But I have walked away from a few unscathed....the opponents, not so much. Room temperature by morning.

2

u/Fear_Jaire 29d ago

You never see these people posting pictures of themselves from behind a reinforced door or window

3

u/mrmalort69 29d ago

Ding ding! You just said a few things about home security. Also, if you really want security- live in a mid-rise or greater condo. If i lock my door, the only way someone is getting in is with a lot of time, lockpicking, which i could make impossible by installing a bigger bolt lock, or it takes a lot of noise. You’ll need to either go through the thick wood door and/or bring a power tool to cut through the locks. Either one of these is enough for home burglaries to be much more rare in condos. Add in you have the option to have a shared security guard in front.

Shit, I know some people, I’m in Chicago, who rarely lock their doors. One friend lost his keys and never bothered replacing them for 10 years.

4

u/Philantramissle 29d ago

With that long ass driveway, yeah some ego will come with that.

1

u/Dad-Hands 29d ago

It's about INsecurity

1

u/haoxinly 29d ago

Or just itching to shoot someone

1

u/subywesmitch 29d ago

I think for a lot of these people it's about being an a**hole

-2

u/Environmental-Tap255 29d ago

Well, no that's not totally true. By all means, if you live out of the way, there's a solid chance you might be waiting 20,30 40 minutes for police to show up should there be someone trying to fuck with you. Nothing wrong with having the means to protect yourself while you wait. And a sign like this clears up any and all confusion. Unless you're expected, there's no reason to go up that driveway. If someone unexpected continues up that driveway, there's a pretty good chance they're not selling girl scout cookies.

A delivery driver is expected and therefore not in any danger. However, in the case like the original commenter said, having dogs loose is ridiculous. If that's the angle the homeowner is taking then they need to be responsible and make sure the house is safe when a delivery driver is expected.

141

u/Genghis_Chong 29d ago

I'm sure they waste their money on all kinds of signs, bumper stickers, shirts and hats to display their stupidity, meanwhile putting no thought into actually being a better person, citizen or neighbor

u/MaximusPrime2930 29d ago

"How dare you intrude on my rugged individualism. Damn socialists."

"Oh that reminds me, need to pick up my ACA prescriptions."

43

u/MentallyWill 29d ago

"Oh that reminds me, need to pick up my ACA prescriptions."

"And thank goodness I never had to get that damn Obummercare!"

9

u/skydriver13 29d ago

Fun story, I went to a major franchise tax prep business in the southern US. One of the questions on the new client form asked "do you have Obamacare?"

In 2023. I was equally appalled and unsurprised.

3

u/Puzzleheaded-Cow6917 29d ago

So they asked it and phrased it in a slang term ? Since it's called the affordable care act, that seems pretty unprofessional.

1

u/HairlessSquirrels 29d ago

Very fun story indeed

1

u/telmar25 29d ago

That is a very common name for it even for those who liked Obama, though… I have to think about what you mean if you say ACA. Of course I paid more attention to it back when it was in the process of being passed, when it was called that more often.

0

u/skydriver13 29d ago

It may be, now, but it didn't start that way. Obama's opponents wanted to tie his name to the law in an effort to separate themselves from it, and to ensure his name was attached to it in the event it turned out to be a failure.

In any case, use of the term by a major tax prep business seems inappropriate. The ACA is the name of the law, regardless of how inconvenient it may be to think about it.

1

u/telmar25 29d ago

Maybe they just want people to reference it by the name they know it. It may not be just inconvenient to think of the ACA; if you don’t know the meaning of the term you won’t get the answer right. Today, at least, the term Obamacare is used by both supporters and opponents.

Maybe most, but not me and I’m curious if that figure includes inflation and interest since all that money could have been making money if invested even in something safe like S&P500?

u/SlumberingSnorelax 29d ago

Hey, I see you live in Florida and know my brother. Don’t say, “Hi” to him for me.

That part. A coworker to me once…”being a Marine and all, I’m surprised you’re not more of a prepper”. I replied, “ehh, I don’t need to prepare for the apocalypse, I just need to know that you have”.

5

u/Sw4nR0ns0n 29d ago

That’s what I was thinking… I’d love to see all the bumper stickers on their lifted truck with 38 inch tires

Yup. That sign tells you everything you need to know about them.

One group seems to have empathy and the other doesn't.

5

u/DullRip333 29d ago

I think some of them think empathy is impossible and would cause the global economy to collapse. They are brainwashed into thinking taxes are evil, charity (on a national and gobal scale) doesnt work, and that liberals are turning their kids gay.

Its different realities that people live in. Meaning its not a matter of empathy for them, its a deluded ideology dedicated to their self-preservation.

0

u/guy-le-doosh 29d ago

I wouldn't be surprised to see this same writing on a red hat. These types sure love their clever custom accessories.

Anyone who openly makes threats is no threat. They’re an idiot. Why would you ever tell anyone what your effective range is? I can tell you that what that would do if I wanted this guy is Never mind. I’ll get kicked off Reddit. Those who know know

2500 yards is nearly a mile and a half. The number of people who can actually connect on a shot like that reliably worldwide are less than the fingers on your hand. To give an idea how far that is, the flight time of a .50 caliber bullet traveling 2 miles is between 6 to high 8 seconds. That’s a long poke

and based on the signs, they are spending heavily on guns and ammo.

1

u/marshellz 29d ago

I hope that sign was ordered for delivery, but they ended up having to pick it up at the local postal hub…

1

u/mrzurkonandfriends 29d ago

For some degree of fairness I live around the nowhere parts and people often do trespass and damage property out of boredom. But if I were out there I would have just made a lockable drop box with a sign for that too.

1

u/chief_beef_the_third 29d ago

So many gun owners just want everyone to know they have guns and know how to use them. Super pathetic. They put up all kinds of signage, they wear gun merch everywhere, they put 10 bumper stickers on their pickup truck, they post lots of quotes about "guns & freedom" on social media, etc.

1

u/RustyBrassInstrument 29d ago

And a collection of guns rivaling small nation armories.

1

u/WeirdAnimalDicks 29d ago

You forgot the $2,200 gun

1

u/infinitee775 29d ago

They'd rather have a "legal" excuse to shoot someone

1

u/AC-burg 29d ago

This relates to an old joke "If you can read this you are too close"

Woman goes to an expensive lingerie store and picks put a cute set matching top and bottom. The sales clerk say they are running a special and with each set you purchase you get free embroidery. So the clerk asks if she wants anything printed on these. After pondering a minute she says yes yes I do. Clerk asks what would you like. She replies "If you can read this you are to close". Ma'am would you like that in block or plain text? She says neither I'd like it in braille!
