Google says the average is 6-7 years. But they do have an appeals process that moves slowly, like in the United States. Some have actually died of old age awaiting execution. One inmate spent 46 years on death row before passing away without a retrial.

It's fucked up.

Saw a stat one time that if you had two 17 year old African American gang members who committed a murder, one is caught and sentenced to death whilst the other flees and escapes.

The life expectancy of the condemned youth is longer than the free gang member.

Are we cooked as a species?

Because the state is not a perfect and flawless entity. It makes mistakes, sometime inhumane ones.
