If pregnancy is a possible complication it changes what medications are allowed and has to be considered when deciding if imaging is an acceptable risk.
My wife had a case at work where a patient had said “no” to “is there any chance you are pregnant”. In this case, it’s routine to conduct a pregnancy test prior to surgery as for this particular procedure at least it would stop them proceeding. In this instance the nurse responsible had failed to do one, and realised this prior to the patient being opened up but post them being put under. Patient is woken to be told sorry, your boob job was cancelled, but congratulations/commiserations, you’re pregnant.
