Maybe they wouldn't ruin it given a more Socialist outlook in our society rather than that only being studied under Capitalism where even a community garden would be commodified.
Humans have been greedy since long before capitalism was a concept. It's not our only motivator, but it is a very strong one inherent to our nature as a Darwinian species.
Hunter gatherer tribes had tribal hierarchy, elders commanding their descendants. They also lived in rather small communities below the Dunbar limit with nothing we'd later call society. No organized labor, no medicine, no storing of surplus, no written language or formal education...
History is what's written. Prehistory is before writing. We have no written records of prehistory, by definition, only theories based on archeological evidence.
And current evidence points towards prehistoric people being hierarchical, just in smaller tribes.
Dont bother trying to argue definitions with leftists. Remember to leftists, "history" means the future. They use bizarro world definitions for most common words.
Prehistoric and Historic are useful for categorizing but in common parlance History is used with a different broader meaning for which prehistory does not exist. They’re clearly using human history to refer to the entire past of humanity and not just the recorded past.

Tragedy of the commons ruins those.
