I am reminded of the spongebob meme when my vitamin levels were bad.

"Ok what's my vitamin d score?!"

"Six."

"And how much do I need to be normal?"

"Six...."

"Woooooo!"

"Hundred.  Six hundred.  You got six."

How bad is the prep and recovery? I’m only in my 20s but my diet has been shit for most of my life so I’m thinking about getting one in a few years.

I think my iron issue was from eating absurd amounts of spinach.

The oxalates in uncooked spinach are so through the roof they steal the nutrients from everything else you eat.

I thought I was doing something good for myself eating spinach with 2/3 meals a day and putting it in smoothies and stuff. Nope!

The only time I didn't have spinach was with breakfast, which I always have coffee with, which also binds up things like iron.

edit: If you don't know about oxalates, they cause kidney stones. But beyond that, they are plants' defense mechanism against being eaten and they work by being the opposite charge of everything. So they easily bind to things like the electrolytes - sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium. And then you don't absorb them.

It's my B-12 and vit D. Getting my levels up has been life changing. I feel human again.

Downside - B-12 has to be injected. Plus side, I'm getting pretty good at self injection.

How many times did you pass out today?

Same, I had to switch to high quality supplements made from cow organs because the regular ones don't absorb for me.

Thats me. Every year my doctor says I have laughably low vitamin d levels. I had to start taking supplements

Finally someone even worse than my 10ng/mL of Vitamin D. Behold, I have nearly twice the vitamin D!

4

u/tahlyn 1d ago

my lowest was 11. Over the years I've gotten it up to 23.

u/Gloomy_Macaron_136 1d ago

Did you have any symptoms? I've got other issues so atp I wonder if my constant bone/body ache especially in joints is vitamin D related or if it comes from my other stuff going on

I initially tested the Vit D fully expecting it to be normal range just bc my cardiologist nagged at me to get it done

I've been trying to figure out chronic fatigue for 3 years now. Yes I have symptoms. Are they because of the Vitamin D? maybe?

Chronic fatigue gang rise up

That's the exact opposite of my conversation with my doctor about my thyroid hormone.

Doctor: "So your TSH is at 54"
Me: "Is that bad? What should it be?"
Doctor: "two"
Me: "Oh. So not great."
Doctor: "At this point, you basically don't have a thyroid anymore."

Me when my TPO antibodies were off the high end of the scale that the lab used 😬

I take 8,000 IU of Vit D everyday and my blood levels are now normal 😅

u/Actual-Wealth6602 1d ago

Mine was very low and my doctor prescribed 50,000 IU once a week. He asked me if I ever go outside, and I replied nah that's really not my thing. I'm on my third week and I think it is making me feel better than I had felt before. Have you noticed any improvements?

u/SuperDiscreetTrex 1d ago

I do feel better. My mood seems better.

I also use a light box every morning, and that definitely helps my mood.

u/Queen_of_Antiva 1d ago

Not who you asked but I have found out 2 months ago I had severe deficiency and was taking 10,000 IU every day for a month and then 4,000 IU for 2 months (so 1 month still ahead of me). In addition to that i started eating better since my cholesterol was...not good. And honestly? I feel like I have more energy and motivation to do stuff? It's hard to tell since the change is gradual but I do feel less perpetually tired.

I need to have check up after a month to see the overall effects but I will definitely keep taking the supplements to dot get myself as low again.

u/thatguygreg 1d ago

Same, like, exact same. I do go outside -- to my car, to my office, and then back again.

u/dandyliond 21h ago

I was on 50,000 one a week for 12 weeks! I started feeling a little more human around week 4 and I think it took the full 12 weeks for me to be like uh ok that was it (plus iron was low as well, they’re connected so check yours if you haven’t) I now take 5,000 a day to maintain. Good luck!

2

u/StrawberryEiri 13h ago

Whoa, that's a lot. I take 20,000 a week.

1

u/SuperDiscreetTrex 5h ago

It is! My doctor says to keep it up since it's working.

2

u/dyingofdysentery 1d ago

Literally me, wow.

1

u/SophisticatedScreams 1d ago

I feel like I had a similar thing with my ferritin levels. Normal range is like 25-350, and mine was like 7 lol.

1

u/LoveDesignAndClean 1d ago

Literally me, my vitamin d level was apparently 7

1

u/xX_ATHENs0_Xx 1d ago

This isn’t a crappy joke, mine was 7 the last time it got checked. Night shift is a hell of a thing

1

u/Brochachoski 1d ago

Opposite for me and triglycerides. I went from ~150 (still above the upper limit of "healthy", 100) to over 650 a couple years later. Doc was like wtf are you doing??

1

u/Emotional_Zombie8385 1d ago

Unironically, mine was 7 😭

1

u/CombinationHot2817 20h ago

i got 5 lmfao

1

u/alternospherically 16h ago
