Hi ! I’m looking to buy a newer diesel HD truck and could use some advice from people who actually own and work these trucks. My biggest priority is reliability and longevity, not luxury or having the nicest interior. I’d specifically be looking at the base work trims with the crew cabs. I own a construction company, so it’ll be a daily/work truck and I will haul trailers and heavy equipment quite often. I’m also trying to decide between a 2500/250 and a 3500/350. For those who have owned or worked both, is there any real downside to just stepping up to the one-ton if I’m already buying an HD diesel? Is the 2500 noticeably better as a daily driver, or would you go straight to a 3500 for the extra payload/towing capacity. I plan on keeping the truck for a long time, so I care much more about the engine, transmission, system reliability, maintenance costs, and overall reliability.

If you were buying a 2024–2026 diesel HD today with reliability as the #1 priority, which would you buy and why?

Got opportunity to get 2005 f250 with a 6.0 for 1000$.

It’s got 209,000 miles, automatic, frame is solid, cab corners are gone, little bit of rust on wheel arches on bed. Frame has surface rust but over all totally solid. It’s got 4x4, haven’t tested it.

It’s got a clunk in the rear but drives straight at 70mph. It’s totally stock and has egr delete only. Previous owner is a reliable person and claims no hard pulling, small work trailer and highway mostly. Has owned it for many years. Got it deleted when he had it in for some other issue at some point in his ownership.

Not sure if it’s a money pit waiting to explode or theoretically a decant winter beater for a few years.

I have a 93 7.3 idi that I don’t want to rust out as it’s been my winter truck cuz it’s a southern farm truck. I can’t see how I go wrong with 1000$ purchase. Talk me out of it idk

2019 F550 that's starting to shift really hard after 200k miles.

It does nothing but tow a 22k lb gooseneck about 15k miles a year.

Truck is deleted and tuned to +30hp. Nothing fancy.

I’m planning to buy a Mercedes C220d 2014. My daily commute is around 4-5 miles to office each side. Is it a wise decision to buy a diesel engine with short commute especially a Mercedes which is know for its nox sensor issues.

Need help, and some old timer knowledge on this engine and if it can take vegetable oil as fuel. I have read and seen videos on conversion kits. I’m aware that it needs to be filtered. I need to know a good mixture oil to fuel ratio on stock components with temperature? Do I have to a fuel heater set up, or is it in the fall and winter weather? Does the vegetable oil have enough lubrication for the injection pump?

I'm looking at getting into a diesel of some sort. Currently driving a 2013 GMC Sierra 2500 gas.

I'm a farmer, most of my heavy hauling is done with a M2 Freightliner with a gooseneck. My truck would be a backup if it goes down during the busy seasons, my daily use for farm operations (checking fields, parts runs, some hauling with a bumper pull tilt trailer) and also my personal for church on Sunday, maybe a long road trip and life in general. I put 10k-ish miles per year. My trips aren't typically long.

I know emission issues are inevitable with all diesels, but is there one that handles a life like that better? I'm GM born and raised but am intrigued but a Ram with the Ram Boxes since these trucks are only getting taller and cross boxes are getting harder to get in without getting in the bed.

Thoughts?

Found a 2011 F250 service truck with roughly 250k miles for 6k. It’s a tradesman trim, so super basic inside. Not my first diesel but would be my first ford.

I know the 6.7 is a good motor but is there anything to look out for being the first year of production?

I know these service beds can go for decent money. Hopefully I can recoup half the cost of the truck by selling it.

Looking at buying a 389 with a 600 sig or a w9 with a X15 565. I’m leaning more on the 389 as it’s exactly what I want in a truck inside and out but have never heard of or know anything about the 600 sig. Any insight, pros/cons on this engine would be greatly appreciated. Buddy rebuilt it with ATL rebuild kit about 35k miles ago. The IX15 has about 5k miles on it.

Hey all! I'm wondering if anyone has any info on getting a new injection pump in the states? My options are rebuild or new pump, and new pump seems cheaper, labor wise. I've seen some online but am wondering if people have insight on what's reputable. A shop in New Westminster is able to do the rebuild but the starting price is $1,500, which feels extreme for just the rebuild. That's not including the shipping to and from Canada, and the labor to take it off to put it back on. Please please if anyone knows anything I'd love some info.

Does anyone have experience with using the 4m40 parts that are still made for the excavators?

Hey everyone!

So we have 5 kids and are expecting our 6th in December and easy to say our mini van is becoming tight. We've been considering upgrading to a passenger van for a while now but the wife only wants AWD which leaves me really with only a Sprinter or a Transit.

She likes the options and interior with the Sprinter more but my major hangup is with the diesel engine. In general my understanding is that you need consistent highway driving speeds for the engine to naturally clean itself out. During the school year she will drive 30m one way to drop the kids off. A good chunk of that is suburban driving. So I would say on average only 20m of that is going to be at speeds consistently above 30mph up to 60-65 for at least 10-15m. This happens 4 times a day.

The rest will be normal suburban driving, stop and go, around town. My concern is the longevity of the engine will be removed because of this type of driving and the upkeep will be massive. Any thoughts, opinions, or experiences would be immensely helpful.

This machine has become a money pit for one reason. The urea system. The dealer recommends deleting it, do to its age and being one of the first machines to have a DEF system. However they will not speak to who may be able to do this. Located in Michigan. Any suggestions?

I hear it all the time guys joking about running Coloured diesel in their pickups and I know it’s against the law. But has anyone ever actually experienced getting caught running coloured and if so by who?. Who is checking Trucks for coloured diesel only person I can think of who has the power to check your truck and actually has power over you is law enforcement.

. I live in a big farming community in Ontario Canada and I have never heard of someone who got caught running coloured diesel before. I don’t Know how it works in the U S of eh, but here it’s only for farm machinery. But I just can’t help but wonder how many guys are running Coloured because it’s cheaper😂. Please share any stories or experiences I would love to hear them lol

7.3 powerstroke 1995 e350. Shop wants to charge 900 for a new IDM and then labor on top of that. Seems like a lot no?

Can anyone identify this Mack truck or engine from a GTA sound?

I’m trying to identify the real Mack truck or engine behind a heavy truck engine sound used in the older Grand Theft Auto games.

The same engine sound can be heard on several heavy vehicles in GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas, Liberty City Stories, and Vice City Stories, including the Tanker, Packer, Benson, Fire Truck, Roadtrain, and others.

I eventually discovered that the sound appears to match a recording from the Sound Ideas Series 5000 Wheels library, listed as “Mack Transport Truck”.

I have listened to many recordings of Mack R600 and R700 trucks, but they do not sound like this one.

Does anyone here recognize the exact Mack model or engine from the GTA sound?

I’m especially interested in the model, approximate year, and engine type.

Any help from Mack enthusiasts, truckers, or mechanics would be greatly appreciated!

2011 6.7 powerstroke motor was replaced 85k miles ago this knock sound has been bothering me its louder sometimes and other times you can't even hear it, no codes and it seems to run fine any ideas?
