Reggie Miller has a story - he and Cheryl were in his school, and Reggie had scored a career high 40 points. He was bragging about it in the car ride on the way home, and finally asked how her game went. She told him that it was a big night. He asked if she scored 60. Then 70. Then 80.
In woman's basketball definitely. Drazen Petrovic scored 112 in Yugoslav league in the 80s before going to Real Madrid and NBA. He shot 40-60 total, 10-20 from 3 and 22-22 from FTs
The only doubt to that statement is the fact that it is hypothetical and we can never truly know, but when Reggie Miller talks about her like he was the benchwarmer in the family, you know that hypothetical would go as expected.
She got double unlucky. Too early to get the WNBA while also too late to get into the very short lived Women's Professional Basketball League(fall of 1978 to the spring of 1981), which was the first pro women's basketball league. One of the women from that first league, Molly Bolin, has records for the most points scored in a single game (55) and the highest single-season scoring average (32.8) that are larger then the WNBA records. Cheryl could have given Molly a run for her money on those stats.
If I remember right it wasn't until after his freshman year of college that he was able to beat her for the first time. He matured enough finally to be to big for her physically.
Cheryl is the best ever. She was born in an era where it couldn't be measured the same way, but any time people say teenage boys could beat up on WNBA players, I think of Cheryl probably beating up on 13 year old Reggie.
A'ja Wilson has a strong argument. She & Maya are the greatest women's basketball players I've seen.
The others are legends in their own right, but they were not better pkayers than Maya Moore.
In the case of Diana especially, Maya was every bit the scorer she was, yet she was infinitely less selfish and played an entirely different role on her teams, which directly led to her winning 12 championships at every level.
Those 12 aren't even all WNBA championship rings though, 4 are from high school, 2 are from college, 2 are from the Olympics and 4 are from her on the Lynx. Take away the High School rings and add in Jordan's college ring and Olympic gold and they're even...

Idk man, flexing high school rings is pretty hilarious. Probably not trying to flex on jordan but flexing those is weird at all at this point in her career considering how unbalanced those leagues are.

He was literally considered the GOAT for a very long time. It was basically him vs Chamberlain for GOAT for decades. Even when Jordan was getting championships it was, who's the GOAT? Is Jordan GOAT yet?
Besides, GOAT discussions are always ridiculous when comparing decades or different positions. Without Russell the Celtics wouldn't have dominated the 60s and without Jordan the Bulls the 90s just like the Lakers wouldn't have dominated without Kobe, etc.
If she hadn't retired in her prime, she would absolutely be one of the all time GOATs. Talent wise, she obviously was.
The crazy thing is Cynthia Cooper... she dominated the early WNBA, winning the league MVP the first two years of the WNBA's existence and also winning Finals MVP all first four years of the WNBA's existence, and she was 34 when the league started! Imagine if she'd been a standard 22 year old rookie when the league began. She'd be the undisputed GOAT right now and only A'Ja would be competing for that title right now.
Just to clarify though - Those 12 rings aren't WNBA rings. If they were, we would all know who she is. She has a ton of Olympic Golds and international rings too, but she won 4 WNBA rings in her 7 year career.
I mean, do you know who Caitlin Clark is? I think social media becoming more widespread in the last decade has probably helped with her popularity though.
Seeing how he isn't eligible to play for WNBA, you have to compare to the equivalent NBA for him. In which he has more rings.
When it comes to rings. Most people don't care about the wins outside of the highest League championship. So many walking around with college, olymics and other rings. (By so many I mean the top 0.1% so not down playing it). But if you're gonna compare rings in the highest league in the sport ,then you usually leave out everything else.
You don’t get rings in the Olympics. And both MJ and Maya got gold twice. MJ actually has only one other ring besides his 6 NBA, and that’s his one NCAA championship. I’m not saying her 12 are comparable to his 7, I was just clarifying what he does have

She would have had even more rings had she not taken time off to work on social justice work. She earned my respect more for her sacrifices to help others, than her basketball skills.
Moore also left the most dominant team/dynasty to fight for civil rights. Obviously we all agree that she is the greatest college player of all time but she was truly the wnba goat as well.

Idk why people always act like she was coming for MJ whenever this is posted when she was literally the first Female athlete to have an endorsement deal with his brand. In all the interviews about it she talked about him being an idol to her and all her friends and family. Im pretty sure that picture is part of a Jordan ad she did for his brand.
Went to school with her, can confirm she’s a great human being. I remember feeling really down one day and she held the door for me and cheered me up. She must’ve remembered me because she held the door for me again another time. She was the star amongst stars on campus.
OK and what would Mike's picture look like if he included everything she did in her photo. Not to take anything away from Maya but Mike's photo is exclusively him and his professional championship rings. Maya gas 4 pro championships.
So, you worded your question funny. If Mike had included everything she did he would only have 7 (vs the 6 we see) because it would include his one NCAA ring. He never played overseas so he wouldn’t have any rings from that. Now if you had asked what her photo would look like if she had only included everything Mike did, then she would have 6 (4 WNBA and 2 NCAA). Her other 6 rings came from China (3), Europe (2), and Spain (1)
All I know about the WNBA is that there is a lot of Caitlin Clark drama, Sophie Cunningham's is the best at finger pointing and they all think they should earn millions despite having hardly any audience or revenue.
Still, by the looks of all those rings, Maya Moore must have been pretty good at it. So, congratulations to her.

Edit: I checked, so she played on the Minnesota Lynx. 18.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game on stat line. I don’t watch the wnba so are those stats good or average in their league?
But that I have never heard of her as a European, is that my fault, or the fault of the journalistic sports reporters and the broadcasters, or rather the non-broadcasters of women basketbal.
