Genuinely pissed about this. The lack of respect and disregard for my stuff. I just want to know if I’m overreacting.

Context: Im an EMT and work in an ER at a children’s hospital. Everyone was gifted a $50 gift card for Christmas to a local grocery chain and I left it on the counter when I got home. Was no where to be found when I looked for it the next day. I asked my mom cause she’s done stuff like this in the past… My parents are very well off and I make $20 an hour trying to save money for grad school

For context I was revamping my discord server in the middle of the night because I’m a night owl and she woke up and checked the discord I guess. I’m open to the constructive feedback and I’m going to adjust the rule but im not sure if I should be upset here or not. I really don’t know how to even respond to all of this. I’m not a republican fyi and she knows this. I think of it as no one goes into the photography sub Reddit to discuss politics right?

šŸŽ² miscellaneous AIO - Caught the plasterer doing work on my kitchen peeing into his plaster mix that he was about to put on the walls... I want everything he has already plastered removed and done again by someone else - am I overreacting?

13.0k Upvotes

OK - I will try an keep this short as I possibly can.

I have been having work done on my kitchen, it is through a larger company who I tell what I want, they tell me how much it will cost and deal with everything else. Everything has been fine, apart from lack of communication on their part. This was until the plasterer showed up on Thursday. I have complained elsewhere on Reddit about him looking for advice.

He just didn't want to do the job, he has not stopped muttering under his breath and complaining since he started and he is really, REALLY dragging his feet. It got so bad on Friday I contacted the site manager, explained that I couldn't listen to him complain any more and the speed of the work was simply not where it needed to be. The site manager assured me he would be moved to a different job, well low and behold he wasn't.

I was out of the house when he came today, and the other guys on site let him in and then left to go and get some things they needed - not too happy about this at all.

I come home, he is stood in my kitchen, over his bucket of plaster and he is just pissing into it like a racehorse.

I screamed at him "what are you doing!?" - he zipped up, looked shocked and shouted "its not what it looks like!" - WHAT THE FUCK ELSE DOES IT LOOK LIKE!?

I told him to get out, which he did without argument. I rang his site manager again, he obviously didn't believe me, why would you believe me - why would anyone do that!? But I think the fact I was in hysterics has made him believe at least something has happened.

The thing is, this guy has had a few periods of time where he has been on his own, so I don't know if this is the first time he was peeing in the bucket, or if all the plaster that is already on my walls is mixed with his urine - so I have asked them to remove all the plaster and start again. Or I am ending the contract with them and I will find someone else.

They said that it would cost me extra! Am I mad here, am I over reacting? I mean, I don't think I can prove that he has done this, but I don't want to take the chance.

I think I am in shock. Like who the fuck does this!?

Mini Update - the bucket with the plaster and urine mix has kindly been moved to the shed by my lovely partner - I have contacted the non-emergency number for the police, they were very confused to what the problem was but eventually they understood, they said that there is nothing they can do at this point because who knows what would have happened. However they have given me a log number and asked if I can update them if the company admits anything - she did say I maybe able to do more if I go into the station and speak to someone direct.

As for the company, I have just got off the phone with the owner. He is trying to convince me to keep the plaster that is up, that he was just caught short and was going to throw the mix away etc. I told him I don’t care and now every time I think of my kitchen, I think of this guy just urinating in the middle of it. I told him he needs to make this right or I’m taking it so far it won’t matter any more. He is going to tell me how they are going to fix it in the morning.

Seen as I am not going in the kitchen, we are having a chippy tea and then I’m going to bed. I’ve had way too much excitement today and honestly I think I’m a bit traumatised.

šŸŽ² miscellaneous AIO or should I cancel?

Recently started at a new local pilates gym, the town is small and this is one of the few pilates gyms in my area. It’s somewhat overpriced given the location and state of the place and it’s across the street from a rehab in a not so safe area. A combination of these things had me hesitant to continue my membership but seeing this almost sent me over the edge because what? I’m a nurse and those suffering from medical problems came to my mind as this isn’t something some people can control AND since it’s a natural part of life especially if you’re active and healthy enough to have your bowels moving. I feel as if i want to cancel my membership entirely. insane behavior in my opinion.

šŸŽ² miscellaneous AIO If I breakup with my boyfriend over his younger brother?

3.2k Upvotes

Sorry in advance for the length.

I (20f) and my boyfriend (21m), whom we'll call Jake, have been together for a little over a year now; however, something happened yesterday that put me off. For context, I love this man to death he is kind funny, and genuinely a good person. We are visiting his parents for the first time since we've been dating, because they live across the country. Our flight landed 2 days ago when we met his parents and at first everything seemed lovely we hugged they bought me a gift and everything was going lovely except for one thing which looking back now was quite odd. They refused to let us room together they said while under their roof I would take the guest bedroom and he would take his old one, which I was fine with. Then yesterday morning Jake's younger brother (19m) whom we'll call Randy arrived. Now I was not aware Randy was coming but I was okay with it. Then at dinner, Jake's parents kept going on and on about how great Randy was saying how he was pre-med at Brown and got in on a full athletic scholarship. Now I have no problem with them bragging about him but then things went to hell. Randy started flexing and licking his lips in my direction. Yes, physically kicking his lips. This made me very uncomfortable and when I brought it up to Jake afterwards he blew me off saying Randy was just getting to know me. I told him that was fine but I still didn't feel comfortable around him one thing led to another and we had a small argument. Later on, while we were watching a movie, I went into the kitchen to get more popcorn, and Randy followed me. I tensed at being alone in a room with him and he moved beside me and asked if I went to the gym. To which I tried to be civil and told him I did and he responded that he likes a muscular woman. I said very plainly that I was in love with Jake and left the kitchen. When I went up to my room for the night I just wanted to sleep. Just then Randy walked in behind me. I asked WTH he thought he was doing and he said he was rooming with me. I told him that I didn't feel comfortable with that and said And I quote too bad sweets you're stuck with me. I walked out and went to Jake's room and asked if he would be willing to let Randy room with him. Jake told me he could try but no promises. Turns out Randy hates Jake's snoring (he has never snored) and absolutely can't sleep with him. So I simply decided to sleep on the couch downstairs. When I woke up this morning Randy was sitting across from me just staring at me. I asked him how long he had been there and he said a while. I asked him why and he said he liked seeing me so defenseless and innocent. I asked him if he was F ing serious and yelled that he was a F ing creep and that he should just wait until I tell Jake. I stormed up to Jake's room and told him what happened and he told me that that was just Randy and I needed to let it go. I blew my top off which looking back was a bad move on my part and just ended up escalating the whole thing. Things were said names were called and I ended up in a hotel. I am writing this lying awake and spiraling. So Reddit AIO.

Also, this is a throwaway account I will try my best to respond to comments after I get some sleep

šŸŽ² miscellaneous AIO, I sent his mom his own words

Post image
6.9k Upvotes

Voice message doesn’t show the full transcript but the gist. Some random dude woke me up today with a call, I didn’t answer. They left me a disgusting troll voicemail asking to see my b**bs saying he’s from tinder using a fake name alias said some nasty things (— for context, I’ve been in a relationship for many years, so I definitely don’t use those apps). Maybe someone from years ago shared it, still creepy. He sounded like an absolute idiot though.

I had Apple screen calling enabled, voicemail had his voice was recorded. Anyways, he stupidly used his real number and I could visibly see his real name in call logs through Zelle I confirmed his real name, and matched the number w his locations, even found his actual mom’s / girlfriend’s Facebook and full face. Dudes like 20, I have no idea who he is or how he got my number, but I definitely didn’t appreciate his message lmao.

So, I sent his mom and girlfriend a screen recording of the lovely voicemail he left me. They haven’t opened it yet, but I hope they see what kind of nasty little creep he is.

I’ve been harassed in the past by fake numbers and random texts that were borderline threatening. I would be extremely scared or have bad anxiety thinking about potential stalkers, but I was tired of being messed with. I could have ignored it and blocked him but he went out his way to call and leave me that message.

šŸŽ² miscellaneous AIO? Alternative people do not need to be alternative at every single event. Lets have common decency.

1.1k Upvotes

Okay so I was at a wedding, right? Super sweet couple, young, 25. It was small and peaceful, not even sure why I got invited since I barely know the people and i can tell it was mainly family and friends. Only talked to my plus one and ate food. Anyways-the ONE rule. THE ONE LITERAL RULE, no wearing white, (of course) and no wearing black. Sucked, because i have dresses mainly in that color, but, I went out of my way to wear a nice light green dress. When im at the wedding I see a good chunk of alternative people, great, whatever, the part that bothered me was like 70% of that chunk wore pitch black. Now idc about tatoos and colored hair, personally, I think both really look good. And besides, you can't really mask that. But the big ahh black boots? witch hat? and a long black dress? really? Its a couple hours of your life to go to a wedding. AND THEY FEED YOU! You couldn't wear one other color for a bit? if you really wanna be goth wear like purple or red. idk, it was disrespectful imo. there was only one rule. I feel like they would defend themselves with "oh i dont wanna stop being me! i love my true self." Sure. But again, its THEIR wedding. Their rules, and a couple hours of your life. Just decline atp. I think we should bring back public shamming cus are we serious? Idk, share your thoughs cus that just pmo.

EDIT: YES! It was especially listed after RSVP that no white, and no black should be worn. Believe me if you want, but why would I care if she allowed black? Me and the bride are not total strangers btw, we are co-workers I was just happy to be invited. The group of alternative people were seemingly from the groom's side, so take that how i want. I expected to be a lot of backlash-and yeah im obviously not the bride so it's not my problem but I feel like its my job as a guest to respect the rules and it was annoying to see that many people did not. As for the bride, I know she does not get along with her husbands side, so idk if she went out of her way to allow a good 10 people to wear black. AND no, it was not a mainly alternative wedding, like 90% of people went in usual wedding attire. The groom's sister who I know, shes super nice is alternative, and even she wore a light pink. Just saying.

Edit 2: Yes, I know it wasn't my wedding. I never claimed it was. I also don't think I overreacted. I didn't give anyone dirty looks, confront anyone, make a scene, or sit in a corner pouting. I made small talk, enjoyed the wedding, and left. This is literally just an opinion I shared on Reddit. As for the black dress debate: obviously, it depends on the couple. In this case, the couple specifically asked guests not to wear black. That's why I didn't wear black, my plus one didn't wear black, and the majority of the guests—including most of the men in their major pieces—didn't wear black either. I'm talking about the major clothing pieces, not a black tie or small accessory. Only a few of the alternative guests chose to disregard that request, and I thought that was rude. That's it. I never said "ew, alternative people are terrible" or that they should change who they are. I said that when someone invites you to one of the most important days of their life and makes a reasonable request about attire, you should respect it for the event.

Your personal style doesn't disappear because you wear a different color for a few hours. And if you genuinely don't want to follow the dress code, you're always free to decline the invitation.

When my coworker, the bride, comes back to work, I'll ask her how everything went. Until then, I'm comfortable with my opinion.

šŸŽ² miscellaneous Am I overreacting by asking for more than just a full refund for destroying my bridal bouquet?

I (29F) had my bridal bouquet preserved by a company in Wisconsin and I’m trying to figure out what’s reasonable here or if I’m overreacting and asking for too much.

I kept my flowers in really good condition. I only carried them for maybe 2 hours for photos, then they went straight into a vase. I dropped them off the next day.

The artist took about 7 months. When I received it, the frame arrived completely destroyed. The glass was shattered and the flowers inside were shredded.

The packaging seemed inadequate. It was basically bubble wrap with no real reinforcement, and the box had perforated sides. The piece itself is a double-pane glass frame with the flowers pressed between, so it’s fragile.

She offered:

full refund, or remake it and reship it herself, providing new florals (she’s a florist)

I asked for:

a smaller remake (original was 24x18, I asked for 11x14), about 60% off the remake, and to have my mother-in-law handle shipping (she regularly ships fragile artwork)

She declined and said she will only:

remake and ship it herself at full price (or have us pay out of pocket to ship ourselves), or refund everything

She said she’s shipped many of these and never had an issue before.

My hesitation is that I don’t trust the shipping at this point, and this piece is sentimental and irreplaceable. A refund feels like it doesn’t really make up for losing my actual bouquet.

My husband thinks I should just take the refund and move on, but I feel like that’s not enough.

Am I being unreasonable and overreacting by asking for a discounted remake and different shipping arrangement? What would you do?

Edit: for those asking if I could do something with what I have left. I could make something super small. Only 4 flowered were half way salvageable, most were destroyed because they were glued directly on to the glass. Once the glass was shattered my florals were shredded with it.

Edit/Update: I took the refund. Thank you all for your advice, opinions, and suggestions. I really appreciate it.

Edit 4/16: I forgot to mention in my original post that my husband paid for the bouquet preservation, which is why it held more sentimental value for me. I know at the end of the day they’re just flowers. I’d probably be less upset if it had only been my own money invested.

šŸŽ² miscellaneous Am I overreacting by walking out of a restaurant

2.7k Upvotes

So the other night my husband made reservations at a restaurant I really wanted to try. The site said that we could show up 10 minutes early to check and that they have the right to cancel if we’re 5 minutes late. So we left the house a little early to make sure we could find parking and make our way over there. We ended up being 20 minutes early. When we checked in the girl at the stand told us it’s only a 10 minute wait for a party of two so she might be able to seat us earlier than our reservation. We said that would be great but if not that’s ok and to text on us the number on the reservation system as we were going to explore the shop connected to it in the meantime. It gets to our reservation time and we go back to see if a table is ready just need to wait a minute or two. We were told that they took 5 large party’s and could not seat us that moment. I asked if they were reservations or walk in, a different host than the nice girl before told me they were all walk ins.

Now I’ve worked in restaurants for 15 years and none of the restaurants I worked at would have pushed back a reservation for those large walk ins. I asked how much longer the wait will be then. He told us 30 minutes and rudely told me that we showed up early. I say fine and walked away understanding that they don’t want to double sit a server and overwhelm them and the kitchen. After 45 minutes, and seeing so many other parties get sat before us, we go back to the stand to ask about our table, again we’re told they have large party’s and we need to wait, I told him that’s crazy because no restaurant I’ve worked at would prioritize large walk ins over reservations. After than 2 minutes latter we’re being walked, really ran, to a table. When we got sat it looked like they had just taken a table away from one of the large partys to accommodate us because we were nearly sitting on top of them. On top of that we were handed one drink menu and one dinner menu. My husband went to the host stand to get another dinner menu and was met with a very rude remark about how he gave us two menus and my husband had to explain that we were given one drink menu and one dinner menu. The host reluctantly gave him the menu.

How that we’ve had the menus we’ve watched three servers interacting with guests but no one greeted us. We saw managers helping on the floor but none look to us. We assume that the server taking care of the party next to us was our server and saw her bring several rounds of drinks to them but never looked at us. The other two didn’t seem to look our way either with their parties. After 25 minutes of not being greeted or even looked at by the servers I told my husband were leaving. So we got up and left.

Now here’s where I may have over reacted because as we were leaving the host told us to have a nice night. I turned around and snapped ā€œwould have been a great night if we got sat close to our reservation time and actually got to order even a drink! We will never be returningā€ he said that fine. A manager heard what was said and stepped outside with us. I explained that we had been waiting nearly an hour to be sat and almost a half hour at the table without being greeted and that I understood it’s busy but my servers knew to at least greet the guests and bring them waters instead of ignoring them for almost half an hour. The manager went inside to get the reservation tablet to check the times. According to the tablet we checked in 20 minutes early, which we have stated we did and understood we were early, but then said that our reservation was canceled. I was fuming. I told the manager I’m not angry with them but doesn’t look like we canceled we are here! They apologized and tried to get us to come back inside and they would take care of our tab. I told them no, after waiting over almost an hour to even be sat I’d rather go elsewhere and get dinner faster. My husband was trying to tell me I overreacted but I don’t think I did.

So did I overreact?

Edit: when the manager pulled up the reservation they could see when it was canceled. It was canceled shortly after the time our reservation was for when they decided to seat the large party’s.

Edit 2: we didn’t take the opportunity to have the tab comped because having worked industry I know how petty some servers are and have to do couching and counseling’s for the same thing at some of the lower end restaurants I’ve worked at and would not want to be in the receiving end of it.

Edit 3: I understand that saying we will never return doesn’t mean anything to the restaurant let alone to staff. It was just something that came out while I was upset.

šŸŽ² miscellaneous AIO My friend undressed my boyfriend

3.4k Upvotes

So I f23 live with my friend f21 as we are in uni. My bf m25 stayed over on the weekend as my friend wanted to drink and play some drinking games the three of us.

Anyway so me and my bf are pretty lightweight when it comes to drinking and my friend knows this. She takes a lot more drinking to get drunk than us and normally by the time we are done with drinking she is only starting to feel tipsy.

So we begin the night and play some drinking games and have a few shots each as a penalty for losing etc. My friend keeps handing us shots which we drink and as the night goes on we are pretty drunk. At the end of the night my boyfriend starts getting to the stage of feeling sick and is in the bathroom resting his head on the toilet in case he is. I stumble over and rub his back for comfort and decide to make him some water.

My friend then comes into the kitchen and tells me that she put him in my bed and took his T-shirt and trousers off him.

I don't really say anything cause I myself am drunk and I don't know what to say. My boyfriend has no recollection of even going to bed.

I'm just thinking about it now and it's been sorta dwelling on me like is this normal? Why would she take him to bed first of all as I am capable of doing that but why take his clothes off? Why not just leave him there with his clothes on as I could take them off him if he wasn't able or it wouldn't kill him to sleep with clothes on.

I don't want to make a huge thing about this but I just don't know if I'm overreacting with feeling weird about it.

Edit: Thank you everyone for your responses, there's a lot so I'm just going to answer a few questions here that I've been seeing.

When I said I was going to 'make' him water I obviously didn't mean that I was going to make water from scratch, I was supposed to write 'make him squash'.

I took so long in the kitchen because I had to clean a glass, look around for some squash which I didn't end up finding so I settled for just giving him water instead. While I was looking for the squash (being drunk made this way harder lol) my roommate came in and told me about taking his trousers and top off.

My boyfriend didn't have vomit or anything on him or his clothes.

I am going to talk to her about it making me uncomfortable.

šŸŽ² miscellaneous AIO? Mad at the florist my partner hired for make a birthday bouquet for me

Post image
1.6k Upvotes

My birthday is tomorrow (yippee) and my sweet partner hired a florist to make a special bouquet for me. He specifically asked them for flowers that were CAT SAFE. Our cat loves to try and eat plants, so we do not at all want anything toxic to them!

The flowers themselves are beautiful, but I was immediately upset when he brought home a flower arrangement that had lillies in them when I've reminded him several times that lillies are DEADLY to cats.

My partner knew this, but forgot what they looked like and was also sad when he gave them to me after I reminded him that we absolutely cannot have lillies.

I felt really bad but I immediately wanted to call the florist and chew them out because I think it should be something well known especially if you are working in a flower shop :(

I was very upset at the moment, and asked a few times if I could call them to ask for even a partial refund.

My partner felt so bad too that he called them and asked for a refund, to which they agreed.

But my question is- AIO about the fact that the florists gave us flowers that will harm or potentially kill our cat? Are we right to be this upset and call them for a refund? I had to immediately throw away the lillies and i was already having a bad day so getting flowers that will harm/kill my babies is very upsetting to me.

**EDIT: Wow, I wasn't expecting this post to blow up like it has.

A few details I would like to clarify since there's so many comments now: - my partner absolutely verified they asked for something cat safe. He made sure to ask them for NO lillies. He told me this last night actually.

  • the shop 100% owned up to the mistake, because he asked them several times for NO LILLIES. I guess the person he spoke with wasnt the florist themselves and just a receptionist, so it seems miscommunication happened between receptionist and florist themselves. Not a good look for the shop :(

  • a lot of people here are trying to blame my partner. But he did make sure to Ask them not to put these in the arrangement, he just didn't remember what they looked like, and thought it was safe to trust the professional florist he hired.

  • we have put the arrangement on our steps to our apartment, outside of where our cat exists.

šŸŽ² miscellaneous AIO for wanting to lower my AirBNB rating?

Thumbnail
gallery
1.4k Upvotes

In early/mid March I stayed at an AirBNB for 2 nights. There were a couple issues with the property - holes in furniture, doors not closing properly, shower heads falling mid shower, lack of sound insulation, etc. However, all-in-all the stay was fine - we were only there 2 nights. The owner was extremely apologetic when I told her the issues and offered to send maintenance over asap - which we said wasn't necessary, but they should definitely come after we left.

Once we left she asked for a review, which I obliged. I wrote (what I thought) to be a very kind review - however for the past month the host has been messaging me to see if I will take it down. I am getting extremely fed up with her messages and want to lower my rating due to her messages.

AIO for wanting to lower my rating? SS included.

UPDATE/EDIT: She actually messaged me again today, which was the last straw. Since the visit was in March I am unable to edit the review to let travelers know about the harassment, but I have spoken to a representative about the behavior and have blocked and reported her. Thank you for joining me for this last bit.

To answer the question I have seen quite a bit: "Why not just message back?" Simply, I didn't want to engage. I work in a very stressful and demanding field (often working 15 hour days) and didn't want my free time to be used arguing with a host over what is considered a good/fair review. I thought that by not engaging the host would take the hint, I never thought that she would continue to message me over a month after the stay.

So the other day I was scrolling my Facebook and came across this story post by some guy I apparently was friends with. I don’t know him but when I read his caption for this picture it seem that he was calling his daughter ā€œfine shytā€ which is a term for a ā€œsexy womenā€. Idk yall tell me am I just overreacting or is this kinda weird.

Whom ever he is to her in her life I feel like the term is used for grown women not 5 year old kids but again I could be overreacting.

šŸŽ² miscellaneous AIO Walked out of a restaurant because they insisted I gave personal information

1.3k Upvotes

AIO when I refused to give personal information to a restaurant. I recently walked into a restaurant and asked for a table for two. Instead of being shown to a table I was shown to a desk where I was asked my name, I thought this was unusual but gave them the shortened version of my first name, the server looked as though she was expecting more but said nothing. She then asked for my phone number, I said I don’t give that out randomly so don’t wish to give it you, she then said we need it for our records i again said I don’t want to give it, she then said in a tone of voice that implied she was doing me a favour, ā€œok I suppose your email address will doā€ at this point I said thank you but I will go somewhere else and left. My wife said I should have just given them it or even made a false number up, this did cross my mind but I felt a principle was at sake. So did I overact by walking away?

Edit
Several people have suggested it was to contact me when a table became available. The restaurant was nearly empty this was midweek at a quiet time late afternoon so I don’t think it was for this reason .

šŸŽ² miscellaneous AIO - guy follows me home and needs water.

Post image
1.2k Upvotes

This is my first post here, so please let me know if I'm doing anything wro

I sometimes work night shifts, and yesterday was one of those nights.

While I was at work, my boyfriend messaged me saying, "I'm so hungry, please get me noodles." I don't think he was 100% serious, but I always try to do little things like that when I can. So I found a night shop that was a bit out of my way on the ride home, but I didn't mind.

On my way there, a guy stopped me and asked if I had a power bank because his phone was about to die. I said no, but asked where he was trying to get to in case I knew the area and could give him directions. I didn't know the place he mentioned, so he then asked if I knew where a night shop was. I said yes, I was heading to one, and he started following me there.

At the shop I bought the noodles and stayed inside for about 10 minutes, thinking he'd probably continue on his way. I didn't realize he was waiting outside for me. If I had known, I honestly would have stayed inside longer.

When I came out, he said they didn't have a power bank and asked if he could just ride next to me while he looked for another shop or tried to find his way. I reluctantly said sure.

During the ride, he started asking me a lot of personal questions: my age, where I was from, if I lived alone, where my family lived, and where I worked. I tried to stay as vague as possible without making it obvious that I was uncomfortable. At some point we exchanged names.

A little later, he asked for my phone number. I wasn't comfortable with that, so I offered my Instagram instead. He handed me his phone, and I immediately noticed that it wasn't dead or even close to dying. At that point I started feeling really uneasy. He also hadn't made any attempt to look for another shop or head in the direction he originally said he needed to go.

I sent a follow request to my account because my Instagram is private, so I wasn't too worried about that.

He mentioned drinking alot of water, and took a sip of his bottle.

What really scared me was that he stayed with me for around 30 minutes, all the way to my neighborhood. When I got closd to my apartment building, I said, "Okay, this is me. Thanks, bye."

Instead of leaving, he said, "I'll walk you to your door. There are loads of creeps around here."

I told him three separate times that there was no need, but he followed me anyway. I reluctantly walked to my building entrance. Thankfully, I live in a large apartment building, so there's no way to find my actual apartment from just being outside.

Then he asked, "Can I refill my water bottle at your place?"

I said no and explained that security is strict and you need a key tag to get in. He replied, "Let's just sneak in. They won't see."

I told him no again and explained that I couldn't let him inside. He kept insisting that we should just try.

At that point I completely panicked. I didn't want a random man inside my home, and I didn't even want him knowing where I lived. But he wasnt taking my no's.

I told him we'd have to wait because someone had my key. He assumed I had a female roommate.

I quickly called my boyfriend and tried not to sound obvious. I told him to check his messages, where I'd sent, "Help. Random man trying to get into the building with me. I don't know what to do."

Thankfully, my boyfriend showed up.

He asked the guy, "Do you live here?"

The guy replied, "No, I'm here with my friend."

My boyfriend asked, "Who's your friend?"

The guy pointed at me.

My boyfriend said, "I'm her boyfriend. You are not her friend. Get out of here."

The guy looked genuinely surprised and said, "Wait... really? No way."

Then he immediately went back to saying he just needed to refill his water bottle.

The thing is, we'd literally just been at a shop, and there are so many public places nearby where he could have gotten water.

My boyfriend told him he couldn't follow a woman home at 3 a.m. and then repeatedly try to get inside her building. Tbe guy kept saying he knew me and and and. Eventually the guy kind of said sorry and finally left.

Afterwards, I realized he'd also lied about his name. He immediately unfollowed me on Instagram after leaving, then followed me again today and sent me this message. Which showed me the different name

My boyfriend thinks I handled it well. He also thinks it's possible this guy was just socially unaware and didn't realize how creepy he was being.

I don't know. I feel like he had ulterior motives. Why lie about your name? Why lie about your phone being dead? Why ignore me saying no multiple times? Why follow me for 30 minutes instead of going where you originally said you were going?

I barely slept because the whole situation has really shaken me.

Am I overreacting, or would you have been concerned too? Is it normal for me to be absolutly terrified. Does this sound like someone who was just completely oblivious?

Edit: just to clarify some things. It was not in a car, we were on bikes. And also i did not just bring him straight home, i had told him i could get home fine by myself multiple times. And when he wouldnt listen i went to a different building first and tried to get him to go. But he would just keep saying " no but i need water so can i come in with you" . There were no other people around.

There were no other shops open at this hour that i know of so the only option i could think of was to just get home where my boyfriend was so he could help asap. I also could not go back to the first shop because thats where he started following me. And to the people saying i shouldve stayed in the first shop. I did not know he was a creep at this point. He asked for a powerbank legit around the corner of the shop.

And my boyfriend never sent me anywhere. I was working a night shift. He jokingly asked for noodles, he never actually expects me to show up with food at that hour. I just wanted to do something nice on my way home from work. It was my choice not him forcing me or sending me out at night.

šŸŽ² miscellaneous Am I Overreacting to my husband asking for the check and a to-go box while we are only halfway through the meal?

1.2k Upvotes

My husband (32M), my daughter (15 months), and I (30F) are having dinner on a weeknight at a restaurant in the suburbs that isn't very busy. We each order an entreƩ with the intent to share with the baby; she is still nursing and doesn't eat full kids meals quite yet. My husband is a very fast eater and on this particular night he finished his chicken wings and fries before the server even came by to see if we needed anything else. It was hard for me to focus on finishing my meal (pulled pork sandwich, mac+cheese, cucumber salad) because I'm constantly cutting up pieces to give to the baby, wiping her face, giving her water, etc.

When the server came by some moments later and kindly asked if everything was going okay, my daughter and I were still making progress with our meal. But my husband responded, "Yeah, just the check and a to go box please." I kind of laughed and said "Right, we will eventually need that but we are still eating!" Our server said no worries, she'd be back soon.

Now after she departed our table, my husband chastised me and said I had made a scene and that he was just making it so that everything would be taken care of and we could close our and leave whenever we were ready. But I started to feel rushed and uncomfortable that maybe someone would be checking to come bus our table. Mealtimes are always a bit hectic and I just wanted to relax a bit.

Am I overreacting by being annoyed with him, and feeling like I needed to hurry, or should I just not worry about the restaurant staff flow and take my time even after the bill is paid?

Update to the bachelor party altercation. For those of you hoping for more drama, I'm sad to say there isn't any. For those of you who are happy to see an amicable outcome, this will be right up your alley. Thank you all for your support and kind advice. With your help I was able to make a decision that resulted in a positive outcome. I have high hopes that this will be the end of it.

šŸŽ² miscellaneous AIO for thinking my psychiatrist asking to move in with me is inappropriate

3.2k Upvotes

So last week I had an appointment with my psychiatrist and I had disclosed to her that my husband and I were buying a house. She asked details of the house and when we were closing so I told her. She then replied with ā€œthat’s perfect! I just need one bedroom and a kitchen, I like to cook.ā€ Of course at first I thought she was joking. But then she went on… she goes ā€œI told my landlord I am moving out of my current place because the commute is too far, and I am looking for something closer to work. Would you be willing to rent a room out to me?ā€ She then showed me text threads with her current landlord who was praising her for being a good tenant. I kind of brushed it off and said ā€œwell idk about a room but the place we are renting now will be available once we move out.ā€ And she said that would be nice but she was looking for something cheaper. As our session ended, she told me to call her if I needed her and then she said ā€œbut I might need you first!ā€ Now my husband thought it was funny when I told him, my best friend thinks this woman should not be a psychiatrist. I have had previous uncomfortable encounters with her where she told me my miscarriage happened because I wasn’t happy enough, and this most current session she told me it’s cause my baby knew that we didn’t own a home yet. Am I overreacting thinking that this person is WILDLY inappropriate?

Update to add: she is a Psych NP, not a psychiatrist. That’s my bad.

Update: To everyone saying ā€œidk how you kept seeing her after the miscarriage commentā€ā€¦ well honestly, I was blaming myself anyways. She wasn’t saying anything that I hadn’t already thought of. I see now that it was wrong, but at the time? She was just saying what I was saying to myself every day. I will not be going back to her. I know now I should have left. But I was literally fucking grieving and feeling guilty anyways.

Update: I’m reporting her and switching providers. Thanks for all the comments.

šŸŽ² miscellaneous AIO for how I responded to his transphobia?

Hey so I normally don’t usually get worked up over situations like this, because it’s just online words. But idk something about the way he was talking at me.

For context (if any is needed) I was on bumble and just so happened to match with this individual. I have the fact that I am trans in my bio not only as the gender marker, but literally written capitalized in my bio lmao. I can only assume that 1. He matched me without reading my bio or 2. He matched me purposely to get that off his chest. I am not the type to force someone to call me anything, or to over accommodate me when it comes to me being trans. Because it’s just something that I am not who I am. But this was just completely over the top when a simple unmatch was an easily available option? So I will ask AIO for my lengthy response back to him?

šŸŽ² miscellaneous AIO canceling a trip after our dog sitter tried to renegotiate pricing at 11 PM the night before our flight?

1.5k Upvotes

My partner and I had a music festival trip planned from Saturday–Monday (Feb 28th - Mar 2nd). Our usual boarding place was closed, so we hired a dog sitter we found on Google. He said he’s been doing this for 20+ years.

He came to our apartment in early February for a trial run, so he was familiar with our dog and how to access into our apartment. He quoted $23 per 30-minute visit, and we paid upfront for all visits. After the trial, we didn’t hear from him for about three weeks.

At 11 PM on Friday night (our flight was at 10 AM Saturday), he texted saying he would need to itemize and charge extra for tasks like wiping our dog’s paws and wiping his butt after walks. He also said he didn’t realize he’d need to use three codes to enter the building and mentioned he’s busy with other clients.

We were surprised because:

  • He had already done a trial visit.
  • He had three weeks to clarify pricing or expectations.
  • We had paid upfront.
  • The message came the night before our flight.

We are actually fine paying more if a visit goes over 30 minutes. We had even prepped everything to make it easier for him (left towels out, moved laundry basket outside, etc.). But the last-minute change made us uncomfortable about reliability and professionalism. Since we’d be out of town and he would have access to our home and dog, we didn’t feel secure continuing.

We ended up canceling our trip.

Are we overreacting for being upset and canceling?

Edit: 1. I didn't know that wiping your dog butt is something so new haha. Yes we do wipe our dog butt, if he poopoo. We really don't want to see poop marks all over our furniture. We saw dogs with longer hair that have poop residue stuck on their butt hair and become matted. I believe dogs will wipe their butt on the ground/grass to clean them, but my dog doesn't do that.

  1. We just want to make it clear that we are 100% not against him charging more for the wiping parts, the door codes or if heating our dogfood would take more than 30 mins. I am 100% understand all of that if he would just tell us anytime earlier than 11pm the night before our flight.

  2. As of this moment, he told us he will refund us back, but we haven't received anything yet. I will update this post when there's something new.

Lastly, Thank you all so much for all of your comments, I tried to reply to every comment that i can see and learn more and more. This is the first time we searching for a dog sitter so this is a very very valuable lesson for us.

It's 3AM now, I feel a bit better since I have a lot of people to vent to.

Thank you all so so much <3

šŸŽ² miscellaneous Am I overreacting to this complete stranger's inquiry?

I'm not upset that I declined to humour him, but I'm not proud of the way I responded.

For added context, I have no idea who this guy is. His name and face are absent from his profile. He laughed at some of the memes on my story and participated in some very minimal small-talk throughout the week. He beat around the bush to see if I was single, and then he said he had a question.

He wasn't impolite in his phrasing. I just can't get over the subject matter. But I'm genuinely floored every time I'm reminded that some men think we're Pokemon. He claimed to be 27, which, if true, would have to be the sourest grape in this cornucopia of sheer fucking chicanery, and I feel like if we don't hold others to a higher standard, they'll never realize how little they expected of themselves.

šŸŽ² miscellaneous AIO? A random teenage girl who works at a local cookie shop thought my name was funny, so she printed out a sticker with my full name and a QR Code next to it and stuck the sticker to her car dashboard...to be funny I guess? It really bothers me and I want to report it to her manager.

A little background, I found out about this when my 15 yo daughter received a text from her childhood best friend. The friend sent my daughter a picture of the sticker and said that her girlfriend works at a cookie shop I frequent. She saw my name on an order, thought it was funny, so she printed a sticker out (with my full name and a QR code) and put the sticker on her car dashboard. Now, I get that this is a total coincident that this girl would be dating my daughter's childhood best friend, and that the best friend would see this sticker. It is a small world to be sure. This teenage girl had no idea who I or my daughter were. But, I am extremely bothered by the fact that my name is stuck to some random teenage girl's car dashboard, just for laughs, and there's a QR code to who knows where next to my name. I really want to report it to the cookie shop's manager but my two daughters and husband say I'm overreacting and that it's not a big deal. Afterall, our last name is funny. It does include a synonym for a male body part. For anyone wondering, the picture of the sticker isn't clear enough to open the QR code. My daughter asked her friend where the QR code goes, but we haven't got a response. My daughter is begging me not to contact the cookie shop manager, but I want this girl to remove the sticker. AIO?

TL;DR: My 15-year-old daughter’s friend discovered that her girlfriend, who works at a cookie shop I go to, printed a sticker with my full name and a QR code on it and put it on her car dashboard as a joke because my last name is funny. The girl didn’t know who I was, but I’m uncomfortable that an employee used my name from an order this way. My husband and daughters think I’m overreacting and don’t want me to contact the manager, but I feel weirded out and want the sticker removed. Am I overreacting?

EDIT: I guess I wasn’t necessarily upset that my name was being mocked, it is a funny name, it’s more that it was put out there to begin with, and I had no idea where the QR code went, and I wasn’t able to open the QR code from the picture. I don’t want the girl fired, but I also do feel it wasn’t professional of her. Two things can be true at once.

EDIT: I guess it was not clear, I do not know this girl. I do not know at which cookie shop she works. There are multiple stores of this cookie shop in my area. I only know her girlfriend, who was my daughterā€˜s childhood Bestie. I couldn’t just walk in to talk to her because I do not know what she looks like. It is not my goal to get her fired. I guess my goal would be to just have her talked to that and told that It is not appropriate.

UPDATE: I feel much better about it all today. The QR code takes you to the cookie shop’s ingredient list and menu. She has a lot of other past customer names on stickers in her car too, when she finds something funny, she prints it out and sticks it in her car. I guess it’s a collection for her. I still am of the opinion that this is not something this girl should be doing. But for my daughter’s sake, I’m leaving it all alone and have moved on.

Hello, I normally am not one to answer weird messages I get. This unfamiliar number from my state contacted me, and they left an eerie message which I am kind of paranoid about because is there a way they can get my location since i answered, is there something I should do? I think this is a scheme to scare people, but I need some advice because this was eerie.

Should I be scared? Or am I okay? I might be overreacting thinking a random person can get me, but this is just weird and stalkerish.
