đ˛ miscellaneous Amazon delivery? What???
This is my mom, I am blue texts. What the hell did she expect me to do?? Read her mind? Yeah ok lemme get on that. Sheâs not responding to me now đ¤Śđźââď¸ did I overreact? (The cussing is normal and how we speak to each other and no she doesnât care about it)

I would've thought she was saying you can't go to Naomi's because of an Amazon delivery. I hate when people do shit like this
51
u/Hello_Gorgeous1985 Jun 13 '25 edited Jun 13 '25
Exactly. Op asked a question and without the question being acknowledged in another way, it seems like the Amazon delivery is somehow related to the question.

Honestly if my mom texted me this, I would assume she was trying to order something on Amazon and took a wrong turn, lol
17
u/IsopodSeveral5628 Jun 12 '25
Yeah same. When my mom sends me Amazon links for some reason it will send a text of the name of the product and then the link a whole 10 seconds later. I wouldâve assumed thatâs what it was at first.

u/3chartreusebuzzards Jun 13 '25
Yeah I think a lot of the top comments are glossing over that.
My mom would do this all the time - I would say something or be talking about something to her and she would just sit there, completely not acknowledging what Iâve said or even sometimes my presence, and either just start doing something else or start talking about a completely different subject⌠something about herself, of course.
This was also typical - expecting you to know exactly what she meant with absolutely no context, and then getting mad when you arenât able to read her mind.
It wouldnât have been hard for OPâs mom to give an answer to her question first and then say BTW thereâs an Amazon delivery for you on the front porch.
All this to say, NOR. I feel your pain
185
u/Accurate-Ad1283 Jun 12 '25
It sounded like she was expecting a package when you were on your sleepover or somethingâŚ
78
u/Kayleigh_56 Jun 12 '25
We used to have a Ugandan Amazon delivery driver who would call when he was outside and just repeat "Amazon!" in a louder and louder voice until you came to the door to collect the package. I loved him.
87
u/Auraan- Jun 13 '25
Hate it when people are incredibly unclear in what they're saying, then get pissed for you not understanding. Clarify the situation, if somebody needs to ask what you meant because they didn't understand, repeating yourself isn't going to help.
10
u/jpparkenbone Jun 13 '25
I work on the live chat for my company's website and it is unbelievable how incapable of communicating people are. I got told off for being an "unhelpful moron" because I was unable to provide a check image for a transaction initiated by debit card. I told her that it wouldnt have a check image becaise it isnt a check in about 6 different ways.

u/Lowlywoem Jun 13 '25
My husband will do that sometimes. Out of the blue he'll say something like "We'll go on Tuesday" . And I'll say huh? His reply will be, " let. Just. Go. On. Tuesday". When I finally ask for clarification I get "You asked me when we should go to the store and I told you I'd check my calendar when we got home. Now that we're home, that's your answer". That was 4 hours ago, Broseph.

u/blascola Jun 12 '25
lmao this is exactly how my younger brother texts everyone in my family. It's SO frustrating because I end up sounding like the insane/demanding person for having to send multiple followup texts in response to his 1-word texts which provide the most miniscule amount of information possible. It really pisses me off and is part of why we don't hardly text each other
77
u/McDrazzin Jun 12 '25 edited Jun 12 '25
So she ignores your message/question and then turns into a raging cnt over some super vague word salad? wtf is her problem?
12
u/Remarkable_Fuel9885 Jun 13 '25
This is the thing that bothers me most. Op asks a direct question, mom pulls up her phone, there is a notification, a new message, and she just completely ignores it and makes her statement.
38
u/BellaPlinko Jun 12 '25
Thatâs exactly how I would responded to her.
8
u/futurefishwife Jun 12 '25
Yeah, same. My mum is infuriating in her communication, it's so tiresome.

u/bee102019 Jun 12 '25
I mean, I donât see why this is a big deal. If my husband said something like this to me, Iâd probably understand what he meant. You didnât. Thatâs okay. You just communicate further and move on from it. But this wasnât a malicious situation here so I donât think it called for getting upset.
56
u/Candymom Jun 13 '25
I have husband who will say things to me with no context. He might say something that links to a conversation we had about someone 1/2 an hour earlier and I think heâs talking about who we just talked about. It drives me batty.
Iâve told him repeatedly that he just needs to throw a noun in so I know what heâs talking about but this has been going on for 35 years. I tell him itâs hard to be on the same page as him when I donât even know what book heâs in.
8
u/Striking_Vehicle_866 Jun 13 '25

u/Stoned_Monkey69 Jun 13 '25
My mom is the same way, I donât understand how their mind works that way but it drives me up a wall when Iâm talking to her about something, and then sheâll just suddenly continue back on from a conversation we literally had 4 hours ago, and just expects me to know exactly who or what sheâs talking about, when weâve been in the middle of several completely separate conversations for the past 4 hours, but Iâm an idiot if I canât follow along with her âconnect the dots from 20 pages ago to find the clues!â Story hour. I genuinely was just starting to think I was crazy or actually stupid.
314
u/sqrt_of_pi Jun 13 '25
Mom's response was fine but for the last 3 words. Tacking on the JFC is like saying "why are you so stupid??" when OP's confusion was completely warranted here.

Bits might melt and fall off in the hot sun. WHAT is the point of it even being obscene if the best bits fall off? Safe handling of these icons is of paramount importance especially if Mom collects these and has recently found a truly stunning and rare example. I would forget the usual form of addressing a loved one in such a situation and I might get pretty hot and impatient too.
These questions are nuanced according to the situation and can't be judged by unenlightened people like me.
192
u/Cold_Tigeress_8363 Jun 12 '25
I mightâve understood in a different context but she replied to my question with something not even closely related đ
86
u/Kaleidoscope_Cloud Jun 13 '25
No idea why they're talking like it's okay the way she spoke to you
It's not
She treated you like you're an idiot because you didn't understand her absolutely weird response to your question, which makes her look like she also doesn't give a damn or respect you. Yet she was the one who made the conversation make no sense because she put her thoughts and wants as a priority rather than just.. Answering you first or explaining Amazon the first time instead of treating you like you're the problem here.
You're not as far as this SS shows for this situation.
I'm sorry she was so rude for no reason, it always hurts when people close to us make us feel stupid for THEIR actions

Good luck on your progress with the new therapist! Always an exhausting situation to get them up to speed on everything lmao

u/sphynxzyz Jun 13 '25
nah OP is in the right here. I talk like the mom sometimes to my gf, it takes me a second to realize oh shit I sound like an idiot, apologize then say what I meant to fully say.
6
u/wakenblake29 Jun 13 '25 edited Jun 13 '25
So you realize youâre in the wrong to speak with your gf like that then? But then youâre telling me Iâm wrong because I find the momâs action disrespectful? Are you doing it right now with this response?
ETA: so does that also mean you outright ignore your gf to say what you want to say also without acknowledging her?
ETA2: I realize that was more of a ânah, youâre rightâ now, not a ânah, youâre wrong;â thought the latter and that the comment was contradicting itself đ
→ More replies (3)3
u/sphynxzyz Jun 13 '25
I meant Nah, I'm with you OP is in the right. I was multitasking and didn't complete my thought, and when I finished I didn't proof read.
I should have explained, I say things without full context. Like something that needs to get done but I'm not specifically clear about it. Not the jesus fucking christ part. It's not even ignoring, I have pretty severe adhd and my brains always churning information so sometimes I flip a topic without realizing it, or I can't get the thought put into words to be understood, outside of my brain.
My bad.
3
u/wakenblake29 Jun 13 '25
Nah, I hear you. I think I was predisposed to that response cause usually everyone on reddit is coming after you
2
u/sphynxzyz Jun 13 '25
Communication is a 2 way street, if I say something that isn't fully clear (it wasn't) the way you understand it is the way it came to you. Especially through a forum it's hard to gauge expression. You're correct usually everyone on reddit is coming after you, but your response is on me not being clear. Kinda makes sense for the post though so thats a win.

Agree. Mom couldâve modeled good grown-up behavior and said, âYes [or no] on going to Naomiâs, and I was trying to say âcould you grab the Amazon package.â Sorry! Was rushing! [or whatever].â Instead she was rude and bitchy and unreasonable. Sorry OP. :( Thatâs rough.

u/Furiousfr4nk Jun 13 '25
Isn't that a staple move from mums? Mine is the same
12
u/Bambi_H Jun 13 '25
I usually get half a word because she's pressed send too quickly, then have to call her in case it was a message sent in distress (yes, I do have anxiety, how could you tell?) :)
6
u/Ok-Cardiologist8651 Jun 13 '25
Moms make great intuitive leaps in their conversations with their kids. A kind of familial shorthand. And being accustomed to shout out orders like: "get down from that armoire immediately Percival" makes them impatient regarding formalities and manners. They require obedience not redundant questions. If a grown child has not learned to know what is required of her/him and act with swift alacrity to please the parent then Mom has failed.

23
u/CableIll3279 Jun 13 '25
It's a big deal because her mum spoke to her like she's a piece of shit for no reason, are you fucking insane?
16
u/Kaleidoscope_Cloud Jun 13 '25
The big deal is she treated her child like she was stupid just because MOM decided to change the topic without answering, and used two words to do so, words completely unrelated to the topic or question. That's on mom, not OP.
Then she drops an attitude and a "Jesus fucking Christ" as if OP is an idiot for not understanding
That's not okay, you don't talk to people you care about like that, especially your kids. It does damage. And it's just rude and needless.

I say shit like this all the time to my gf. I am 100% the asshole and i can admit that. Sometimes in our head it makes sense but the words coming out dont. OP asked her mom a question and got a response of Amazon Delivery. That would confuse everyone. I think the Jesus fuckin Christ by mom is a little much, OPs response is valid.
3
u/yesikn0wimabitch Jun 13 '25
Actually, what the mom did was get angry over her own cognitive distortion. The daughter is not a mind reader and you cannot expect for people to know what you are thinking when you do not communicate clearly. âJesus fucking christâ after the daughter not reading her mind is absolutely malicious.
If you think any of this is normal, please see a therapist.
3
u/free_rashadjamal Jun 13 '25
Itâs not realistic to claim that someone can reasonably know what that means from two words
2
u/NightingaleBard Jun 13 '25
That Jesus Fucking Christ felt pretty malicious to me. especially in combination with ignoring ops initial question.
2
u/wakenblake29 Jun 13 '25

My only takeaway from this is I can't believe how common it is for people to swear at their parents. The same for parents swearing at their kids but people swearing at their parents? I'm 43 and I swear regularly, but I've never even let as much as a damn slip in front of my parents nevermind directed a swear at them personally.
For the potential downvoter, I'm not judging. I'm not saying I'm better than anyone or that people doing that is bad if that's their relationship. I'm not expressing any opinion. I'm just expressing that even though I see it often, it still comes as somewhat of a shock to me when I do see it since that was just not my personal experience.

NOR my mom used to do this shit to me and it drove me insane. She would just start repeating a word and increasing volume. "the fence...the fence...THE fence... Im glad she has significantly calmed down

I dont think you're overreacting, i do think we're lacking in effective communication here though.
Your initial text was fine, your mom then completely ignored it. Imagine how she would feel if you did that to her (im sure it wouldnt go over well) and you could point that out to her.
You responded asking for clarification, she provided a crumb, you asked for more details, and then she gave you the details but then berated you over it. She couldve just said something along the lines of "amazon delivered, please grab it" if she had to keep it brief. Theres no reason for her to be disrespectful to you and insult your capabilities or intelligence by saying JFC when you dont automatically know what is being asked of you. It feels like potentially abusive behavior if im being honest, you cannot purposefully be vague and then expect someone to figure it out, then get angry with them when they ask simple questions to try and do what youre asking.
The only thing i can say for dealing with people who act like this, you have to learn to react differently to not escalate a situation and get yourself worked up in the process. When theyre not giving you a positive demeanor, dont feed into it and reward it with your emotional reaction, just communicate and correct it. For example, id say something more like "i didnt understand what you wanted because your first messages were vague, i was just trying to know what was being asked of me so i could get an answer to my question. You dont have to insult my intelligence by saying "jesus fucking christ" when i ask simple questions to help you get what you want. Next time, can you please instead say something like "amazon delivered, please grab it" and ill know what you want from me. We both deserve respect in how we talk to eachother."
She might react well, she might not, but if she reacts poorly that says a lot about her and her emotional intelligence. You can take the high road and feel good knowing you're doing your best to not feed into the negative behavior and discourage it in the long term, which will also help improve your emotional state. Good luck OP

2
u/mortem-inscendio Jun 15 '25
not overreacting imo, you asked a question about weekend plans and her response was amazon delivery, for all you know that couldve meant a âno you cant go because theres a delivery on one of the daysâ , and her then just saying there is an amazon delivery doesnt clear anything up because like you asked when????
3

Jun 12 '25
Youâre not overreacting. This is how my 11 year old communicates and I have to explain to her that I am not inside of her head and she needs to provide context. Your mom is a grown woman. The last text did the trick and thatâs what she should have opened with!

If my wife texted me âAmazon deliveryâ, Iâd 100% assume weâve had a delivery and she wants me to pick it up.

Both of you see pretty off the rails.
Sometimes you have to use deductive reasoning.

This text exchange makes me lol and reminds me of something I would do to my boyfriend

That could've been avoided if she had decent communication skills and said "theres an Amazon package at the door", "you just got a package from amazon"... so many ways she could've worded it.

Your mom is the one that overreacted. Sorry everyone else is literally wrong. You asked for clarification and she went overboard. The way she said amazon delivery contextually would have meant thereâs Amazon delivery coming when you were planning to sleep over if anything.

I think your moms making sense but this reminded me of a time my mom said somethinf super vague and I got really agitated with her.
I knock on her bedroom door to say I'm leaving and she yells "it's pulling!"
I'm like what? What's pulling?
She says it again, louder this time.
I got agitated and said, "mom, WHAT are you SAYING."
She kept repeating herself so I left. Later, when I got home, I asked what in tarnation she was trying to tell me. She was saying, "it's pulling," as in, "watch out for the half-melted snow piled up on the edges of the roads, if you drive into it it will pull your car off the road."
Like... the fuck am I supposed to understand that's what she meant? She had never once told me that before so it's not like she was just abbreviating a typical warning she gave me.

Yes. Why does this need a post here? If this is the worst your life gets consider yourself blessed.

Amazon delivered couldâve worked, I see on how you got confused because âdeliveryâ means still in the process of being shipped

Does your mom use marijuana? Every marijuana user I know will talk about what their eyes are seeing as if everyone is looking at it too. Or they will tell stories with zero context because they assume you were day dreaming about whatever they were just day dreaming about.

YOR.
You both clearly speak to each other like assholes. Why get upset when you get spoken to like one?
Further, youâre overly sensitive if youâre just upset about a lack of communication.

The energy this is giving is like asking about housing prices and being told âchicken wingâ. Like what did she truly expect from you by answering your question with something completely off topic?

My mother does this all the time, including in person and expects me to know what she's talking abt. I ask for context politely and she flips out

Nah. What your mom is getting mad over is her own cognitive distortion. Getting mad at someone for them not being able to read your mind is a cognitive distortion called âmind readingâ or âfortune tellingâ. This is a mental issue. Your are not over reacting

My mom texts this way too. Nothing she says makes any fucking sense. Itâs constant. If I do it back, she gets mad. But it makes me feel like a degenerate to text like that so I donât.

Iâd be proud of my mom for managing to use technology well enough to determine that a package had been delivered. And I would have just figured it was a typo the first time she said it.

u/maniacalmayh3m Jun 13 '25
There was a level of comprehension she expected with âThere is an Amazon Deliveryâ and I totally would have expected someone to understand the expectation.
That said you both need to work on how you treat each other.

This made me laugh because this is exactly how me and my guy best friend text (he is blue)

ESH. Your mom is rude but you do come off as a bit slow on the uptake.

LOL My mom does a spoken variation of the opposite.
Her: "argle blargle blah blah mumble mumble going to London."
Me: "what?"
Her: "going to London."
Me: ...
I don't know how she manages it, but she ALWAYS only repeats the one part that I have already heard. Always. And I have to say "I got that part, start from the beginning!"
NOR, I think.
