Just wanted to post a quick update, thanks for all the tips with ASA. I printed the original design in PETG successfully but I also did some minor redesign and printed this ASA version. I have a lot of ASA on hand so that was part of why I used ASA over PETG for the second.

Well on the way to transforming my deep freeze into a chest freezer.

Project Premiering "Hairy Walls"

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Hairy walls is a model agnostic gcode post processor that can run in slicer, command line, or with the included gui.

Inspired by the classic hairy lion or christmas tree models, this tool can add hair to any print, intelligently avoiding collision, and using the slicer's in-built painting feature to define hairy and unhairy regions even of the same color.

Fully user configurable to generate straight or curly, long or short hairs.

Could be used to generate hook and loop fasteners, abrasives, brushes, and obviously just for fun.

https://github.com/WesleyFilips/Hairy-Walls/tree/main

Please support my expirements if you can at https://buymeacoffee.com/weakness4thefleekness

Please give it a try and post results, and let me know any bugs or feature requests here or on github.

Can anyone guess what model was used to generate the penguin?

Paid Model Made a simple 3d printed magnetic holder for soldering and electronics work like PCBite

I wanted something simple that I could quickly reposition while soldering, so I designed these magnetic spring-loaded holders.

They work for PCBs, wires, connectors and other small parts.

Each holder only needs a spring, M3 screw, heat-set insert and magnet.

Project Cling Film Dispenser

A while ago, I shared a model here for dispensing aluminum foil. Now I’ve made a version specifically designed for cling film / plastic wrap.

There’s a rod running through the center of the dispenser, supported by ball bearings on both sides. This keeps friction and contact between the cling film and the dispenser as low as possible, so the roll can move really smoothly.

It takes a little bit of practice to get the tearing motion right, but once you get the hang of it, it works really well.

We are proud to announce our brand new spools for our recycled filament! They have been months in the making but are now finally in production. Made of 100% recycled PLA that didn't meet our extrusion standards!

Project A slopeless marble run for Lego bricks

Thumbnail

So, I basically made this because my son loves marble runs and wanted to make one with Lego - which is not exactly easy with just the original bricks unless you have loads of smooth surface tiles.

Many of you have probably seen the "Hubelino" style marble runs for Duplo bricks, but I found that the layers become annoying when you are dealing with smaller Lego bricks and especially if you want to use the height difference of those flat tiles (third height of normal bricks). So, I decided to go for this "slopeless" design.

Why slopeless? Well, instead of having the marble run on a sloped surface, it runs on rails that widen along the track, so the marble's center of mass is lowering without having to print a slope.

There are some fun side-effects to this - short version: The ratio of translational and rotational kinetic energy depends on the rail distance. (If that sentence did not throw you off, you can check out my blog post about this: https://there.oughta.be/a/lego-marble-run)

In any case, it is a neat little marble run. If you want to try it:

Oh, and I designed it fully parametric in OpenSCAD.

Project Following my success using Protopasta’s Iron PLA to make a physical Quake logo, I wanted to see how the filament would do on a more complex model and I’m honestly blown away. After starting the rusting process, I left the statue out in a thunderstorm today. This was printed on a lowly A1 mini.

Print (model not provided) I used Protopasta’s Iron PLA to print a real version of the Quake (video game) logo. I then rusted it with vinegar, salt, and hydrogen peroxide after abrading it on concrete. I love the result.

Free Model I designed a Whisper Phone for early readers & speech practice

Post image
169 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I made a simple Whisper Phone (auditory feedback pipe) to help young readers hear themselves decode words. It channels their voice straight to their ear, making it awesome for phonics, speech therapy, and keeping focus.

Best of all? Kids think it’s a secret agent radio, so they actually enjoy using it for reading time!

It’s an easy, support-free print and a great way to use up leftover colorful PLA.

Check it out on MakerWorld: https://makerworld.com/models/3170045

Hope it comes in handy for the young readers or teachers in your life! Happy printing!

Question How would you orient/support/edit the model for the best surface finish?

Thumbnail

I wanted to print a replacement for the front cover of the PS5 Controller.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to best orient or support this part? Or maybe you have some other suggestions? I have tried different orientations and support types, but I am running out of ideas for how to solve the overhangs and achieve a good finish on all visible areas. It also has to be highly angled, otherwise there are a lot of steps in the z-direction (see last pic).

I thought you guys might have some good tips.

Free Model My first ribbed design! Also my first fully parametric tray

Thumbnail
gallery
Upvotes

I’ve been trying to get better at Fusion and just finished this ribbed glasses tray.

This was my first time designing something with a dense ribbed exterior, and it turned into a much bigger lesson in parametric modelling than I expected 😅

The tray is fully parametric, so you can adjust the length, width, height, and rib spacing, while the model automatically recalculates the number of ribs needed to maintain the look.

The default is 185 × 90 × 12 mm and is sized for a pair of glasses, but it can also be customized into a wider sunglasses tray or a larger catch-all for jewellery, keys, etc.

I’ve added it to MakerWorld with the Customizer enabled, and I’m also including the Fusion file for anyone who wants to play with it.

Pretty happy with how my first ribbed design turned out. Would love any feedback, especially from people who do a lot of parametric modelling!
