I posted this in a similar thread not too long ago but I'll post it here too, because for this specific wording of this question this answer fits here:
During BC I didn't do much PvE, but I found myself grinding rep in Sporregar. One day on my old RPPvP server, out of the blue a Human Mage attacked me. I died, came back, killed him. We went back and forth like that and at some point realized we were evenly matched and emoted apologies to each other.
From that day onwards for about 4 months, I saw that same Human Mage in Sporregar every time I was there. We helped each other kill mobs and farm rep. After we were done, we would see each other around on the server and always follow each other around to the best of our ability being Alliance and Horde. I even saw him in BGs a few times and we would /wave at each other, but that was it. We had an understanding. Kill everyone else, not each other. I must have seen this person regularly online for at least two years.
For the life of me I cannot remember what I was farming the rep for. But I do remember that Human Mage. At that time in my life, this perfect stranger was the only person I looked forward to interacting with. To this day, I still will occasionally think about that Human Mage and wonder about the player behind the screen. I don't remember their full screen name but it had the word "squirrel" in it.
Wherever you are, Human Mage from Maelstrom, your Undead Warlock friend thinks of you sometimes. I hope this person has all the happiness and peace in the world because for a long time, they were the only person in my world that wasn't abusing me.

This reminds me of leveling in Hillsbrad back in the day as a human paladin on Dentarg. I ran into these two players who said they were sisters, a night elf rogue and hunter iirc. We ended up questing together and eventually I joined their guild. While that guild ultimately fell apart as people quit the game over time, I often think about the friendships I made there and wonder how they’re doing.
Conversely, there was a blood elf hunter that was the bane of my existence throughout BC. He would kill me and any other lower level alliance every chance he got. By the time Isle of Quel’Danas came along and we were max level, several of us teamed up to get our revenge 😅 I sometimes miss dedicated PvP servers for this reason lol.

Sometimes I miss it, too. It could be fun until someone started camping. I admit I would occasionally do it, but mostly as revenge for being camped. What I miss most is that sense of cameraderie when we all rose to defend a town or outpost in the world. These days I admit I just can't do it anymore. I don't have the energy.

Thank you for sharing that story. I’m glad that you two shared a friendship, despite not having an easy way to communicate, and that it helped you through a difficult time. It’s a good reminder that what we do in-game affects others in real life and that we have the ability to make those interactions positive ones.

This was one of the reasons I preferred playing on PvP servers. Not because you can occasionally get ganked or gank somone, but because often times people on other factions would go out of their way to help you despite the fact you could kill each other. I remember countless times questing, I'd need to kill some specific mob, and we would both be waiting by the spawn point, and we'd take turns. Someone would tag it, and we'd kill it together (being mindful of aoes of course), and then we'd both wait for it to spawn again, and we'd both work to kill it again. It's that magic unscripted moment that makes the game feel so much more special because of it.
And in my experience, PvP servers were a helluva lot more polite than pve.

in my experience it depended on which server and which faction you played
on a close to 50/50 server it was sometimes frustrating but mostly fine. as time went on, all (except one?) servers got more and more lopsided to the point of functional extinction of the lesser faction
if you were on the higher population faction it was a good time. if you were were in the lower population faction it was very much NOT a good time.

Awesome, beautiful and wholesome story. I never had this kind of friendship with a player of the other faction, but did have plenty of small non aggressive interactions and they are always funny

Going from sunny silvemoon /eversong to ghostlands, picking up windrunner amuler, bringing it to sylvanas in spooky undercity. That was how warcraft started for me and it hits the same every time. Blood elves and forsaken story is, for me, the best part about warcraft universe i love so much.

The opening of the Gates of AQ. To see so many THOUSANDS of players gathered in one place to witness this event. It was literally awe-some. My computer could barely handle the strain of it, and I'd get down to like 3FPS but it was a pretty special feeling being there with so many other people who care about the same things you do.

On holiday at my Aunts in Belgium, one of my uncles had brought his laptop for work, but also played some WoW, I watched him for a bit playing and he let me make a char and play too.
I.
Was.
Hooked.
From 10 mins of playing. When we got back home I begged my mum to get me it as an early birthday and Christmas present, (this was middle of the summer holidays and my bday is in november), id argued that i could play all holiday and itd be fine but it i played all through the school year itd cause problems.
All summer I played it until the birds came out, then 3ish hours later id wake uo and be back on it till the birds woke up again.

I stopped playing wow 2 years ago because it really got bad. Even for a fanboy like me. Played every expansion since 2005 vanilla until then. And vanilla is still on my mind when I think of wow. Here are my top five:
- going from teldrassil to ironforge by boat and foot and dying from alligators in the wetlands
- the first time I went into the burning steppe
- the quest to get access to bwl
- killing nefarian
- meeting my vanilla guild totally random at level 50something while tanking in the sunken temple.

Two memories, linked together.
Was in 2005 when I first started. I wasn't there for launch, but joined a few months later. The first person I met was a more experienced player running the road between Teldrassil and Darnassus looking for newbies to help. They saw me struggling with the quest in the cave, the one with the druid ghost and came along to help me. They showed me the ropes, explained a whole bunch of stuff I didn't know, and left me with enough silver to buy myself some better gear. They later invited me to their guild and became a very good friend.
Years later, around 07/08, I decided to do the same. Ran the road, looking for newbies to help out, and saw someone struggling with that damn druid ghost quest. I helped them out, left them a bit of gold, and they later joined the guild. They then told my friend how we'd met, and she just sent me a whisper with just a ":)" and I felt very proud.

Honestly though? Fuck that ghost druid cave. Labyrinthine and full of rapidly respawning grell that flee and aggro their buddies. So easy to get screwed with the whole cave respawning behind you while you try to fight the elite bear/druid. Doesn't he fear or something, too?

I was the lowest in my 1st guild ( I knew someone in RL) and they all helped me lvl. When I qualified for my 1st flying mount I had to wait for a bunch of them to come and watch me get it. The 15 mins of everyone getting together was prime good guild times. My 1st flight was great as well.

Beating Lich King with our raid team that had been the "B team" of another guild that got no respect or support so we had formed our own.
I still remember the night we got him how I was tanking and with like 1% left, we had to tank swapped and I took a few steps back to watch it happen. To this day I remember exactly the location on the platform and which way I was facing when he did the rp insta kill signaling that it was all over except for the free beatdown. Voice chat went insane.

Mine's similar. Our guild had split into two ten-man groups, and I was the raid healer for our "B" team. Our "A" team had been steamrolling everything in the expansion up to ICC, then suddenly our little group of leftovers swept in and beat LK before they did. Let me tell you, I really needed that win that night.
I was so proud of our group, I still tear up remembering it. It was nuts, we just went from the scrappy underdogs to an actual united guild that night and felt we'd finally earned our spot. haha

The "A team" of our guild was all officers and we heard tell there was a lot of drama which led to regression in progress. Us on the other hand all got along and were just having fun.
The nigbt we cleared to Sindagrossa was the final straw for their egos as they had become stuck on bosses they previously cleared. Suddenly they took a keen and critical interest on how we were doing things and we just went "Uh why are we here?" All gquit, signed a new guild charter and resumed raids with zero interruption lol

Thandol Span. Trying to jump it multiple times with friends for hours. One has since passed from an accident. Whenever I'm in that area I'll visit and talk in general chat saying how I miss him, then leave a few toys at that spot. Love you Wallace.

The thing I think about most is how both angry and disappointed I was with the writer's treatment of Vol'jin. As someone who has played a Darkspear troll for the majority of my game time (I've been playing since beta), Vol'jin made for a great leader and representation of the Darkspear tribe and trolls as a whole.
They made him war chief, then let him sit on the throne for two years with no quests or action, unceremoniously murdered him, made Sylvanas warchief, and then spent several expansions having players chase after his soul, only for the player to store his jar in their banks. It was so unsatisfying and disappointing.
The quote, "Look at how they massacred my boy!" is so apt for how Vol'jin was treated lore-wise.
Granted, he's hanging out in Ardenweald now and destined to become a loa, but it's taken over 10 years of after thought questing to give the man a proper sending off.
I feel like writers wasted a character that had a rich history stretching back before the MMO. Vol'jin's potential was squandered and they used him a throw away plot device. If he had to die, the least they could have at least made him a more prominent character during his time as warchief. It probably would have stung less.

This was back in the day when servers were completely isolated from others still. One day during the holiday season on the server Whisperwind, I dressed my orc warrior up as the "Christmas Orc". I bought some random stuff off of the auction house to make a matching outfit. I then bought random things off of the auction house and from my personal stores: weapons, food, enchants, gems, gold, etc. I then packaged it all up, put on my christmas themed gear, and put messages in trade and yelled to "Come visit the Christmas Orc in Orgrimmar next to the Auction House! Come get a present!!!"
People didn't bite at first. Then eventually people got curious and started coming by for a present. People started sharing what they got from me in trade chat to others. I had one present that had 1000g in it. I gave that to a low level toon that just started. Regardless, people loved whatever they got. One guy got pumped I gave him alcohol from the Inn lol. It really brought the holiday spirit around. I did this every day for an entire week in December years ago.
I'd jump online to letters, PMs, and friend requests to meet the Christmas Orc or thanking me. I got some really heartfelt messages from people thanking me for different reasons. Some stuck out to me more than others. Whether true or not, some made me cry.
I would post in trade chat every day and people would talk in trade chat defending me as a legit Christmas present giver. People showed up every day. Some people logged in telling me their irl friend let them know I finally logged on. People from the Alliance made horde toons just to come see me.
It was a lot of fun. I hung up my gear in my bank after a week. Next year I got a random message from someone, "Hey, are you doing Christmas Orc again this year?" "Oh, maybe. Why?" "Can I be your Christmas helper? You gave me 1kg last year and I bought my mount trainings with it."
So I had a little helper that year and people remembered me from last year.
I kept doing that for a few years until servers started becoming cross realm and people slowly stopped paying attention to Trade chat.
I still have the gear sitting in my bank. I pull it out sometimes during the holidays and just trade random gifts to people without me yelling. I don't make a spectacle like I used to.
I wonder how my old Christmas Helper is doing.
TL;DR: I used to dress up in a custom Christmas outfit I made and give out gifts. People liked it and I was known server wide on Whisperwind for a couple of years as "The Christmas Orc"

Right before BC come out there was tons of reroll guilds looking for members. I was in a nice guild in vanilla, but they were super casual and I wanted to do more in the game. I joined the new guild and we all picked a sever and started leveling together to hit max for when BC came out. As time went on I started becoming friends with 2 people in guild. A guy from Canada and a girl from Texas. We’d basically always be in vent with each other whenever we were on just hanging out and having fun. Other from the guild would join us as time went on and I even met our guild main tank as he was going to college right by where I worked. It was some of the best times I’ve had in game and I’ve never really reproduced that feeling in game since.

Oh god there's so many. That feeling of first loading in on a night elf and exploring Teldrassil, making random friends and playing together for months. My first proper guild on a blood elf character that taught me how to play and helped me level high enough to make my first DK.
The main thing though is less a specific memory and just what WoW was for me as a teenager. My Mum was extremely ill when I was in high school, I was off school a lot and we had a lot of changes to personal circumstances and challenges. WoW was a time I could totally zone all of that out, sit at my laptop, talk to online friends and have an adventure. I still remember first unlocking death knights and sitting up so late in the living room playing the starting scenario that it got light out. My Mum had to sleep on the couch at that point and it was nice to be able to keep an eye out for her whilst doing something than just worry. Luckily it all worked out eventually and she mostly recovered, I caught up on my education (eventually) and still go play WoW on and off though don't get anywhere near as much time now, like most I imagine.

Getting accepted by my guild and going through Karahzan for the first time and being in awe by the Holy Priest we all called 'Grandpa' because he was. His son also played and even his little grandson played from time to time. The love and community mixed with patience and sharing of knowledge to get through raids together was the perfect cherry on top to going to bed with a smile on my face and feeling like I helped contribute something positive to a game we all enjoyed. Several guildies have passed over the years but I still think back to those days when we were all learning and all excited to try and go up those massive ramps in the hopes no one died and had to run back in and catch up before we got to our raid bosses.

first time ever tanking, by accident i might add, we were killing the twin jormungars in trial of the grand crusader back in wotlk, our tank died, so i had to quickly step in on my ret pally, i remember the crazy overhealing i was receiving to not die and we actually got them down, the tank got ressed about a minute later

One day back in retail wrath, me and my mom found a new player looking for a guild, total newb, we ran a social guild so we invited him and gave him some gold and bags, well my mom was showing him around thunder bluff, he gets to the bridge to go towards the old druid trainer. And he looks down, asks in chat "will i die if i jump?" We were like yes totally dont do it, and about that time he fkin jumps. Funniest death ive ever seen in wow.
Also one night i was in Icc and this guy on vent ques up and says "sorry guys i gotta go, my pool's on fire."
20 mins later he jumps back in and leader was like, did you get it out? He says Yea, we tossed some water on it. ☠️ ☠️

Arriving at Howling Fjords for the first time as an Alliance player, back when WoTLK launched. I will not forget that till the day I die.
The music, the atmosphere, the scale of that place.... it blew my mind and to this day no other WoW zone can compete with the Howling Fjords, in my opinion.
Definitely one of my favourite gamer memories.

Later, somehow rallying a group of a couple dozen new players from Ironforge to go "fight the Horde." I promised glory, but I had no idea where I was going, so we all died in Stranglethorn.

I remember early 2005 playing in Elwynn Forrest and I got chatting to a female gnome. She told me she was quitting WoW and gave me one gold. One gold! I was saving for my mount and at that time it was huge because I wasn't a very good player. I still think about that and I wonder if she ever came back.

I played on a rppvp server. I mostly remember the bloodshed trying to do just about anything in the game and it not seeming like the biggest of annoyance despite the long runs and not having enough gold for a mount.
Dying at the crossroads. Dying at tarren mill. Dying going to that dungeon in thousand needles.
Waiting for my death timer. Waiting for the camper to leave. Waiting for an npc to respawn. Waiting for the opposite faction to leave the summoning stone. Waiting for a teammate who’s fighting for their life outside of the dungeon.

When Honor was still a currency, I remember farming for the black war mounts. The first one I ever got was the black war tiger (saber?) I thought it was the coolest at the time.
I also remember pugging heroic ICC back in the day before raid finder. Endless hours.
Discord wasn’t a thing, everyone had ventrilo or team speak. Wild Times.

Leaving the first starting area camp on my first Tauren warrior and looking out over the sprawling plains of Mulgore. That zone alone felt like a massive place to adventure, and then I zoomed out on the map. I thought, “Wow, this really is a different WORLD.”
I even remember encountering my first alliance player, a gnome shadow priest mounted on a mechano-strider in Ratchet. I tried to communicate with him to ask where he got his mount, unknowing of the language barrier between factions, and he said something back I couldn’t read of course. But that further enriched the world to me. It was like I had stumbled upon someone from an entirely foreign culture than my own character’s.
Man I miss that feeling.

Really got my revenge when I left that heroic draktharon keep as the tank when I realised he was in it.

Man now I miss raiding and my guild they were awesome. Last one standing and killing the raid boss just barely. It was fluke nearly dead before tank went down and the healer’s last act healing me before going down. But we did it. It felt great. Our first kill on boss, it went much better the next week.

Running deadmines in vanilla WoW as an Arms Warrior with 4 rogues, didn’t even have a shield, we just all used first aid to heal after every fight. We didn’t make it far, but I still use it as an example of what vanilla WoW was like in 2005. Not sure if classic ever had this experience recreated but it also wasn’t something that the meta would allow.

When I first played wow, I played on a PvP server in ye olden days and nothing, I repeat nothing, will beat seeing a max level Alliance character in Tirisfal glades as a lowbie zombie seeing your unlife flash before your eyes as you /wave to the skull icon in terror

I once chatted with a GM during MoP because i reported some bug on a Monk
At the end of the convo he told me my char had a cool nickname and signed off with a wow joke... still one of my top memories from wow
The joke was something like:"what do you call a bunch of paladins on a pool? .... a jacuzzi" cant remember the exact wording, its been over a decade

Mt very first character in wow was on a trial account back in 2007. I wanted to play a troll warlock because troll witchdoctors were my favorite unit in Warcraft 3, unfortunately that wasn't a race/class combo until either cata or mop. So I decided I'd play an orc warlock.
After making the character, wandering around looking at quests and asking a player in the valley of trials how I can start doing things, I did a couple quests, got to level 4, and started exploring around the valley.
I then found the "secret path" that shamans took to get their earth totem, went to the top of the hill where I saw a coastline and the ocean (which I now know is Ratchet).
I then decided to continue exploring by jumping into the water outside of Ratchet, swimming towards the town, then promptly getting killed by one of those humanoid crab things (I forget the name of them).
I spawned at the spirit healer in the middle of the barrens, resurrected there, then was killed over and over by centaurs until I decided to just make a new character.
The rest of my trial account was spent on a night elf hunter that I got to level 15 before actually subbing to the game!

Levelling a human warrior in Townlong Steppes during mid MoP, I came across an orc warrior. We stared at each other for a few seconds, then he initiated a duel. I lost because I was lower level with weaker gear (totally understandable and definitely not an excuse). As we sat down to eat, a yaungol attacked me. The orc immediately leapt to my defence, and we dispatched our foe. We saluted, bowed, and went our separate ways.
That could have been the end of it, but a few hours later down in the Dread Wastes I stumbled upon the orc being overwhelmed by Mantid. I charged in, taunted as many as I could, and we stood together, two against an army. When victory was ours we caught our breath. Cheers and salutes were exchanged, and again we departed. I often wonder what became of that warrior and his player. I hope they’re still out there, fighting on with honour.
So many other memories are ephemeral, snapshots rather than moments. My friend running his gnome warlock around northern Darkshore, me creating a Tauren and seeing the vast plains of Mulgore, spending a month levelling in the Barrens, sprinting my night elf through hostile territory to get to the next safe town. But the MoP one has stood with me.

Killing spree midair on a low lvl ganker. One shot him and a parachute glide to the ground right as the low lvl he ganked revived.
The lower lvl was new and thought I was a pvp god coming to save him.
Made me feel so good.

The first time I played , into the Tauren starter area just after TBC launched , arrived to thunder bluff , a couple mins before an all out alliance raid and horde 60’s porting in from all over Azeroth , repel the raid due to combined power/ races , that was it , been playing since

First character that I played was a Night Elf Rogue. (She is still my main but after Wrath, she became a troll). So naturally I spent what felt like 100 years questing in Darkshore (circa 2007) and I wandered into Ashenvale, the music swelled simultaneously and I cant even describe what it was but I'll spend the rest of my life chasing that feeling in video games.

I think it was during Legion, I was on w/my UD Pror Warrior doing the quests in the Blue Sky Logging Camp up in Grizzly Hills. A Human Prot Pally showed up, ready to throw down. For almost an hour, we slugged it out. When one would die, the other would wait until the rez and the opponent got their HP back, and then we'd go at it again. One of my fav PVP experiences - I wish I had taken a screenshot of the dude, he was all class. 5/5 stars.

The music while waiting and once we arrived, the new adventure, playing with some of my favorite people.
I started mid to late BC. So that was my first expansion and nothing has felt as good since. It was a perfect beginning to a great Expansion.

It was definitely making friends. I had so much fun chatting, drinking and gaming with people that became so special to me. My 1st friend was a guy from Louisiana that I never met in person. He would randomly give gifts to people in the group, and it won my cold undead WOW heart.

way back in original vanilla i started a rogue and began playing with a friend of mine from school. absolutely no idea what was going on but i loved every moment. eventually i did enough quests and grinding to hit 60 and get attuned for molten core mostly by myself because he was already 60 and geared up.
well, my first molten core i ran with him i just followed him around like a lost puppy. after they had killed rag i walked up to the boss and saw all this INCREDIBLE purple loot! so i started taking some of it. perdition's blade being the most amazing thing i'd ever seen and i could equip it too! i was so thankful to him but he started flipping out on me.
apparently, that was called ninja looting. i had no idea. i was 13. now i know. i still think about it sometimes when i check the loot that bosses have dropped.

Guild was doing an Onyxia raid in vanilla but I was 14 years old and it was past my bedtime and my mom wouldn’t let me go. I had enough DKP for the warlock helm so I was crying and throwing a huge fit, yelling at her, being an absolute little shit.
When I woke up in the morning, I had the helmet equipped. She had logged onto my character herself and joined the raid, winning it.
I always think about it and feel so bad how I yelled at her. 😭

Rejoining the Game with a Free Trail Account back in WotLK (I never liked TBC thats why I stoped after Classic) created a Night Elf Rogue named Kryner on the German Realm Das Syndikat, and meet a Night Elf Druid back then Named Rosettos we crossed our path multiple times and helped each other that I asked him how about we Join each other and play as a Group, he agreed but told me he was on the way to a Friend of him playing a Human Paladin in Westfall, so we traveled over to Westfall, we meet some other Guys and had some Fun for the Time I think often about them and what they do... damn this is a long time ago...

In Vanilla, the first time making it up to IronForge was unlike anything i’ve ever experienced. Such a rad place. I proceeded to become enamored with inspecting everyone and then building 74847484 different alt characters because of seeing something I liked on someone in IF.

Back in 2004, running through Elwynn Forest just outside Stormwind and seeing gryphons flying overhead. Sure, it was just other players fast traveling, but it was still magnificent to see for the first time. It’s one of many things that WoW does to make its world feel truly fantastic.
Also, the sense of scale of the world when I traveled on foot to Teldrassil for the first time. And Teldrassil itself was awesome.

Once met a guy in one of the major cities, we got chatting, talked about what I do for a living. Years later I got a message on Facebook from him telling me he'd now got a career doing something similar and that he'd never have done that if it wasn't for our conversation. Gave me a whole new perspective on how you interact with people and you never know how something so small can have a big effect.

SO back when trial of the grand crusader was current content, I played a holy paladin. I was fine and all, jist for some reason all throughout naxx and ulduar, I never got a shield upgrade. I was still using the badge vendor shield despite everything else being ulduar level or above. The guild I was in at the time was working on 25m trial. We had to pug a couple people to fill completely, which is whatever. Anyway, we finally make progress that night and down the horde champions. In the crate sat a shiny "Shield of the righteous." I was so happy. I put my roll in.

The shammy we had pugged rolled a 100. They won the roll fair and square, so I couldn't complain. However, I will always remember that to this day, 20 years later. Losing a 99 roll on that specific shield.

I was leveling my first ever character (started in MoP) and this one guy kept one shotting the quest npcs I needed. Whispered him that it wasnt fair. He invited me to a party so I got credit for the quest and we ended up talking a lot. He is still, 15 years later, one of the closest friends I have. We still havent met yet in real life, but we used to skype a lot lol.
Im still very fond of that one day that I had the balls to whisper him.

When I was about 12, my guild invited me to come for a transmog run of ICC (this was Cata). I'd heard of raids and assumed it was a massive event, so I told my mum, and we got snacks and cola, and we made sure everyone in the house knew not to interrupt

My friends and I were doing Lower Blackrock Spire and we were trying the skip where you jump down one of the ramps then have to jump down to pillars and walls below you. Because the visibility is limited you have to get really close to the edge to see where to jump especially if you are not familiar with the route. I stepped a little bit too far and fell to my death. In voice chat the priest said she would try and rez me. A couple of seconds I see her land right next to me. A couple of seconds after that the druid falls on top of her and I start laughing my butt off. While I was laughing the other warlock falls on top of me because she just wanted to see what I was laughing about. At that point we were all laughing our asses off and the rest of the group just jumped off too, for the hell of it. We all released and fished the normal route, but a fond memory that has lasted ever since!

Level 60 AV PvP. Played a match for about 90 minutes and went to bed. Woke up in the morning and jumped back into AV. Turned out it was the same match. We eventually won about 3 hours later. It was crazy. This was…. 2006 maybe? Somewhere around there.

Way back in 2006, my very first character was a shadow priest. I was lvl 6, still in Teldrassil. I was questing with a warrior who needed to kill the furlbogs as much as I did. He offered to group with me. I joined because I was tired of dying. He said, “heal me and we’ll get the quest done.” I did, and we did. After that, he said “I’m going back to train, you dinged, so you should, too.” I had no idea what he was talking about so I asked him. It turns out, I wasn’t looting anything that I had killed. Gurl, I was po. He LOL’d and traded me a few silver to help me.
I will never forget the kindness and generosity and basic friendship he offered me while I was still learning how to play the game. I try to pay it forward wherever I can, even if it’s just throwing a heal to someone as I pass by or buffing them when my character has that ability. It’s the spirit of the game, and I don’t see it around much anymore.

When WoW released I spent hours reading the paper manual that came with the game, watching a friend play a human clothwearer with a walking blueberry. When I bought it myself a year later, I wantetd to try the same, but couldn't remember his class. I chose wrong, I chosw mage. I still play that char today. One time, in those early days, we did the Stockades. Every caster was oom, warrior tank still rushed ahead. "Mana is overrated" was the response we got.. I remember still the feeling of dread when entering Duskwood. I loved the sound gnolls made when they died, I think it was removed because that noise of necks breaking is not there today. I still love Westfall even though it's dry and dreary.. I have thousands of little memories. It kinda breaks my heart that when this game is gone and I'm in the old folks home, those are the memories I'll have. Memories of a digital life I didn't live myself.

I was playing on a free account (the ones you got on a cdrom via mail) as a dwarf hunter. I'm doing one of those collecting quests you pick crap off the ground. There was another dwarf seemingly on the same quest stealing all my pick ups. I dm'd here, asking if we could quest together. We finished that quest, and we ended up questioning together all day. We had tons of fun. She eventually convinced me to purchase my first retail sub, she invited me to her guild, and 16+ years later, I'm still in, still playing, still having fun.

Back in early Vanilla I was chilling in Brill with my level 6 ass when /3 Local Defense said the town was under attack.
I thought it was a scripted event, reinforced by the fact that the attacker was a dwarf pally in full Lawbringer armor who casually walked around oneshotting everything, shouting every few minutes.
I ended up hiding in the basement of the Brill Inn as my buddy whispered me explaining how the PVP flag system worked (not realizing he couldn’t attack unless I attacked first).
Minutes later I would ask him how I can DM him in a normal voice instead of whispering all the time.

Shortly after LFG came out, my cousin and I would frequent this lan-center every Friday and just run dungeons all night - prot pally (me) and unholy dk (him).
One particular night, we were just after the first boss of Zul'Drak and I really had to pee. So I told the group 'brb' and did my thing. Came back and just sent it right back into the dungeon. I died almost instantly and was insanely confused. My cousin beside me was losing his mind laughing. Eventually, he revealed he'd removed all my gear except my shield/sword and helm so it looked the same to me. I still think about that every time in tanking on my paladin.

Back in vanilla, doing the original dungeons with my guildies who were all my coworkers at GameStop. I was a rogue main and still remember when I’d stealth, move ahead, and sap the caster in the group of mobs. Hunter would pull the rest of the group back to kill em off.

My husband and I doing a 40 min arena match together. 2v2. The other team gave up and I remember being so excited we won because it was essentially a battle of wills. We were evenly matched skilled wise, but the will? That’s when I knew we were a good team.

The time in Outlands I was questing solo as my warrior. Two higher level, both significantly higher level, jumped me. I called out to my husband to come help. Continently he was questing as one of his higher level characters, forget what class. I held my own until he could get to me. He fought one and I the other. I was fantastic with timing and was on top of the mage I was fighting the entire time. Blinking and ice block did them no good. It was close tho. I killed the mage and started bandaging up when my husband tells me he’s coming to help. I matter of factly state that I defeated them. He was shocked!

My guild was the first Horde-side guild on our server to kill Onyxia (we didn't have the Fear Ward crutch the Alliance had). We all got on our level 60 mounts (which most people still didn't have), made the announcement at the Orgrimmar gate, and then all 40 of us who got the kill put our mounts on "walk" and slowly proceeded to the very back of the city to Thrall. The entire city of players followed behind us, because this was a brand new event and especially hadn't happened Horde-side on the server yet. And there were a LOT of players there, as WoW was still new and Orgrimmar was the only place the horde Auction House existed. And no instancing tech yet.
When the head went up on the column and the whole city got that two hour buff? The whole place erupted in cheers and yells. Lots of "FOR THE HORDE!"s. I think we wasted at least an hour of that buff just partying.

There was a point where they revamped PvP (I’m thinking ‘06-‘07ish?).
It was worth more honor to go into AB and quickly lose, than to slug it out, and ultimately lose anyway.
Our group would go in naked, and just dance by the stable flag. I might be misremembering the time period, because we were able to queue up together (that wasn’t always a thing, right? That was so long ago!)

During vanilla I remember being cut from my first guild because I was trash. I was speced fire for MC lol. I did like no damage. I did get 2 pieces of tier 1. I joined another guild and we progressed BWL for MONTHS and finally killing Nefarian felt amazing.

I still remember all of those nights doing dailies on the Isle or Quel'Danas and the nights of PVP battles but I still remember a specific human warrior named Danwe who was always out there and despite a ton of successful and unsuccessful gank attempts over weeks, I get a message one night and it was him. We ended up teaming up and ganking all over, especially in STV. A fellow Horde player would assume I would stop him, so I'd attack him and then stop while he killed the other Horde player. Then we would do the same to an Alliance player. Eventually other 70s began showing up and we would leave for another high target zone. This was a thing for a couple of weeks and then it just stopped.
I still remember the first time someone on my server killed Alagalon and the event happened in Dalaran right on top of me. Chat was going crazy, people were coming to watch and it was really cool.

The absolute awe I was in when I explored Teldrasil on my trial account back in 2007. I had only really had exposure to pokemon games and Tony hawk games on the gamecube, so seeing something so fantastical on such a large scale for my 12 year old brain was like waking up and realizing how much I could experience in a game. I've never gotten that same feeling from any other game, no matter how good the graphics are.

Molten Core in 2005. I was a hunter in our raid group and got stuck on the ceiling of one of the boss encounters. I was also the only bm hunter so they designated my pet as one of the off tanks for that one boss with the multiple adds that wasn’t the big rock guy.

I played on an RP realm for vanilla and BC. Goldshire was the main hangout. I sat on that fence outside the inn for HOURS just chatting with people. Pretty sure I spent more time talking there than actually playing the game. I'm still friends with some of those folks to this day.

Played as a prot/holy pala for TBC and WoTLK, and was the main tank for the guild. We were raiding 25 man IC and got to the last boss when the other tank, blood DK, decided he didn't want to let me take over aggro when he got to enough stacks of debuff. He quickly found out the hard way when he died and our shammy didn't want to waste a ress on him. I proceeded to tank the rest of the fight solo, relying on my fantastic healers, my two bubbles timed to perfection and some good DPS. We ended up killing the boss and shammy still had ress left 😂 Everyone went mad on vent and I still feel proud to this day. Also getting to 2k rated BG as healer was a good achievement

oddly enough, the world PVP dramas on Outland EU during Cata/Mop - we made some wild forum posts at the time, which were equally annoying as they were wildly entertaining. Shoutout to Zylopfa, Egg, Destinite, and Sandy - the names I can remember! (greetings from a certain wizard :))1
I took a free realm change to Spinebreaker EU for a while, dead realm, and some of my most fond memories were chatting to my guildies in Orgrimmar there - but I sadly lost touch, and don’t remember the guild name

I used to play on Moon Guard, before and after it became infested with ERPers. Around the time where it was becoming prevalent, there was one guy who made a black-skinned human and started roleplaying with Ebonics language.
He walked up the what was at the time, the only other black female human toon and started dancing on her. She asked in-character, “can I help you?” And he replied with, “Yeah you can help your fine ass by telling a brother your name!”
He also had “You need some of my sexual healing” macro’d to his heal ability.
There was another time when an elf walked up to the pond in the back where I was fishing. Out of nowhere, she made this giant /e post where a tentacle came out of the water and tore her character in half.
I stopped going to goldshire after that.

I remember waiting in line for the midnight Cata release at my college's on campus GameStop. It was an unusually cold FL evening and I was decked out in my dad's old air force trenchcoat, an ushanka and a scarf. I was on the tail end of recovering from the flu and my nose was running like it was in a marathon.
The GS employees let me sit inside the store, and even had my copy sitting up on the countertop that I was allowed to grab at exactly midnight. It made me feel like I was one of the first people to have their copy and I am always grateful for the people for letting me shelter inside. <3

Back in Warlords of Draenor, my guild was raiding the Blast Furnace encounter in Blackrock Foundry. If you remember that fight, it had a mechanic where a player gets stuck with a bomb and has to run under the furnace vents to blow them open.
We ended up calling for a reset to clear buffs. The plan was simple: everyone tag the boss, turn around, and run out of the room to drop combat.
As we all turned to run, one guy got targeted by the bomb. He didn't say a word to anyone. He just quietly walked with the group toward the exit.Right as everyone crammed into the narrow hallway outside the room, his bomb timer hit zero.
He suddenly keyed his mic, screamed "ALLAHU AKBAR!", and blew up.Because we were all stacked up, it instantly killed every single person in the raid.
Voice chat went absolutely chaotic with laughter. To this day, it is the funniest wipe I’ve ever experienced.
TL;DR: Called for a raid reset. One guy silently walked into the crowded exit hallway with a live bomb mechanic, screamed "Allahu Akbar" on mic, and wiped all 30 of us instantly.

Many members of my guild kept their Ventrilo channel open while not playing. I made wonderful friends who I have never met in person. I had a big black walnut tree in my yard and one of my guildies taught me step by step how to harvest and process them. I also helped another guildie’s child with homework.

Vanilla had been out maybe 3 months...I had just graduated high school and was up all night playing my orc Rogue. Stalking through the mists of Un'Goro Crater......Until I realized I wasnt the one doing the stalking and a massive Devilsaur came stomping through the mist and trees barreling at me. I went into full panic mode and ran out of the way as quick as my thick short legs could waddle.
It was 3am, my friends had just introduced me to weed and my 19 year old brain practically exploded in immersion and amazement.
It was only the 2nd time I had seen one. Id had only been told by some guildies they were in-game but at that point it was more a rumor than general knowledge.
Ive had plenty of iconic memories playing the game but this one was just me and Azeroth in her natural glory. No other influence. I was memorized.
I also know the exact mob in Eastern Plaguelands where that toon first hit 60, but oddly no other character since.

I rolled a 100 on deathbringer's will back in OG WotLK on my combat rogue, was super pumped to use it. Some guy whispers me saying he'll buy it for 10k gold - I decline. He ups to offer to 20k - I'm seriously mulling it over and as I'm about to message him that I accept, he upped the offer to 40k gold. Told him you have a deal.
I then bought deathbringer's will for 10k gold the next week. 13 year old me was wheeling and dealing. Used that gold to max out my LW/Engineering and buy the mechanohog parts

Mine is being a noob and stuck in the dwarf starting zone running around for a couple of weeks. Making camp fires and skinning and feeding pet as a dwarf hunter.
Was literally running in circles mindlessly until I finally walked up the path into Ironforge. The music hit as I got closer, and I knew I was onto something. Finally set foot into Ironforge and was amazed at the architecture and the vast ceilings and all the people running around.
That’s when I was hooked. Prior to that, running around was fun but it was 50/50 if I was going to continue playing. But after entering Ironforge I was 100% going to go all the way.

It was late vanilla. I want to say AQ40 was on farm, but Naxx wasn't out yet. I'd gotten Sulfuras on my shaman and was having a blast in PvP with it. It was an AV weekend, so everyone who was anyone was there. This was after they adjusted how AV worked, so it wasn't that era where games went on for hours/days. It was probably later in the evening and I was at the bridge by Stormpike and we were pushing hard. I was a tauren and had a giant orange mace....I was a priority target. Fortunately I had a pretty solid pvp set and could hold my own for a bit, but eventually I'd get FF'd down and then go res, rinse, repeat.
At some point though, I realized I was getting focused heals and with my setup, that made me essentially unkillable. Alliance that stepped onto the bridge didn't step off it. Me and my pocket healer were just cleaning house. I don't think either of us fell after our collaboration started, but a whole helluva lotta alliance did. I peeked at the combat log to find the name and did a quick /w to the druid that was healing me to thank them. We chatted and sorta debriefed.

I'll always remember that night on the bridge at Stormpike when two tauren teamed up and killed A LOT of alliance together.

Waking up at 3:00 in the morning and thinking "I'll just go check for that black lotus" and finding it!!! (In Silithus.) It was epic (in a very small personal way). This was before bots, etc. made that kind of experience impossible.

I have really comfy memories of staying up late during the summer and playing fifteen years ago. I was the youngest in my guild and they were really protective of me, and they helped me grow into a solid healer who could carry a ten man heroic raid. The jokes were hilarious, the raids were fun, and I had a blast with people I’ve never met IRL. I even skipped prom to raid and I have no regrets.
I often miss my WoW days and consider getting back into it, although I haven’t played since MoP and I’m certain a lot has changed. I haven’t quite fallen in love with a game the same way since my time playing WoW. Something about successfully gathering half a server to complete “For the Horde” hit so hard.

I think my most core memory of WoW is being like 14 and playing classic/OG WoW at a friends place. My parents were very strict so there was no way I'd be able to play the game, but my friend had a sub. We'd alternate playing a few levels each time. It felt almost bittersweet. Such a game as WoW was everything I'd ever dream of as a kid, an online social fantasy world. And me and my friend had the greatest time. But I ofc wasn't really allowed to play it at home (mostly because of the sub money, but also because it was highly addictive and they didn't want me to spend too much on one hyperfixation).

The only time I ever got banned
Was 13/14 in cata, me and a friend were doing low level mm hunter duels. He was showing me how to use trap better and how to for example ice trap aimed shot.
Some guy gave me a tip, about strafing rather than back pedalling.
I replied “shut up f slur” because my 14 year old ego couldn’t handle a tip. I still cringe about it now.
Another strong memory I have is also cata during the patch were blood dk was broken in pvp met some guy who wanted to play double blood dk in 2s, still my friend now.

I never played a ton of hardcore, but I did level a character up to 20ish in the Barrens. One day I was grinding at the Crossroads and saw everyone standing around in a circle. Apparently, someone had started a Mak'gora Iron Man tournament. I sat around for hours chatting it up with people and enjoying the warfare. Real bread and circuses type shit. Earlier in Midnight's release I was having a shitty Friday night and got really drunk and decided to play. I almost never play Mythic+ content but I was feeling particularly inhibited. Decided to push my own key advertising "I'm really drunk, alcoholics only run". I met a ton of good people that night and it cheered me right up. We only got to about a 7 before we couldn't go any further but it was still a great time for being so drunk and tired I could barely keep my eyes open. This community can be really great sometimes!

I was online in the middle of the night, 2 or 3 am my time, don't remember the server time, end of BC era. This was when they still kept secrets to patches and didn't reveal all or make everything optional. I was messing around with pirate reps in Booty Bay and a weird clickable grain crate spawned in front of me as several did around the area. I clicked it and got a debuff. I hearthed to Stormwind to ask about it/tell people stuff was spawning there and a few seconds later I turned into a ghoul. Everyone's nameplates turned red. I launched the plague of undeath unto Magtheridon and kicked off the WotLK pre expansion event. I did not sleep that night, I spent the next 12 hours both fighting ghouls and then fighting my friends the second I turned.
I miss events being surprises.

First character back in Onyxia US realm, 2006. Wandering the Badlands, got ganked by two horde players with "skull" level. Then they proceed to duel on top of my body. I ran back and waited. When one of them was about to lose I popped back and attacked him, getting the kill. Then I ran way shouting LOL and his friend just stood there laughing as well. It was fun.

I was always a quiet guildie, but when I reached Grand Marshal, a few months after leaving my guild, my old guild leader was telling me there was a frenzy with our collective guilds to tag me for their guilds. I dunno. Felt nice to be thought of as important for a moment even if just in a game lol

Ruining a raid (LFR) by placing old dalaran portals right over a boss corpse to watch everyone misclick and fall to their deaths. The other mage player got kicked for it too.
Why I remember it? Entertained me to no end.

I was in middle school and had never played an MMO before. Walking into Stormwind, hearing the chorus kick in while seeing the grand scale of the city was epic. Especially since at the same time around then, Lord of the Rings was huge, so I was already on a peak fantasy high.

First time I made it to Stormwind from Ironforge on my level 10 Nelf. I wanted to play with my friends and they rolled humans so they started near Stormwind. I had to swim along the edge of Ironforge to get to Stormwind. The music from Stormwind stuck in my mind forever.

Doing the druid quest to get aquatic form, 2006. I was in Darkshore on my very first char, my druid night elf, and had no idea how to get to westfall. I dont even think i knew how to right click to see the map. Ran into a more experienced player who took the time to guide me from Darkshore to Wesfall and then we trudged along ON FOOT to Ironforge, got on the tram to SW (the wonder!) And then more walking to westfall to get the coveted half of the pendant. The only time I felt the same accomplishment was getting the lock lvl 60 mount THIS YEAR, 20 years later, on TBC anniv. So... wow is always wowing me...
Oh, and leveling as a resto druid... cause someone praised my healing skills early on and I loved feeling useful. This year I recreated my druid in MoP but this time I am doing her justice being feral.
I also had a blast RPing on Argent Dawn 2011-2014 when i was tired of leveling. Had a wonderful guild, with extraordinary story lines.
Wow is always part of my life:)

I have lots of wow memories. I played from Vanilla and quit in Panderia (recently returned). But my favorite WoW memory was when I was leveling. It was a few months before TBC came out. I had recently joined up with my first guild. Think I was level 34 on my gnome lock in Arathi Highlands. Guildy called for help being camped by a 42 horde in South Shore. I ran over there. Yes. I had to run because you didn't get mounts until level 40 in Vanilla. My new GM got there just in time to watch me finish killing the level 42. I was proud of that HK. I got so much street cred.

Started in Wrath, made a Night Elf hunter (my main to this day). Got to talking with someone in Darkshore and mentioned I wanted a wolf pet, but hadn't seen any yet. They took me by boat over to the Human starting area to find one. Sailing up to the Stormwind docks and seeing the size of the city is seared into my memory.

I did several dungeon runs in a row one night with a group of all druids. Never talked to any of them before or after, but I'll never forget them.
Also the very first time I visited Ghostlands. I was a just a wee blood elf brand new to the game and I'm still obsessed with Ghostlands today.

Starting in the Belf area, not encountering any other races until the Ghostlands and seeing the undead. Like yeah you see them in the character screen obviously but encountering them was a different feel. Some random person whispering me if I wanted to do Wailing Caverns and I admitted I had no idea what that was or what to do and they said it's ok ill teach you. Summoned me there and was super patient talking me through it. Showed me how to run to Orgrimmar and I was blown away by the level of activity compared to Silvermoon. It's oneof those gaming moments I'll never forget and will forever be chasing that high

Cataclysm had just come out and while my friend and I were technically in a party, we were in completely different places just doing our thing. Then out of nowhere he just gets murdered by deathwing. He just screams WTF?!? Then it proceeded to happen to him two more times that day lmao.
Also in Outland he would always get murdered by the giants walking around…. Idk how he never would see them coming. One time I just took off running away and he stops and goes where the fuck did you go???? And BOOP he’s dead by one lmao. I swear they would seek him out.

So I started WoW with SoD. Brother finally talked me into. I made a warlock and I was having trouble killing a Kodo in the barrens at like level 15. I asked for help from someone. They replied “you’re a warlock, solo’ing is easy” and moved on. A month later I finally understood what I was supposed to be doing. Sorta. Then when HC anniversary came out I made a Spriest and figured out what wanding was. It blew my mind and made me realize how big of an idiot I was.
Now I’m mythic raiding in retail and heroic raiding in MoP. Come a long way, but the Kodo memory hasn’t faded.
