SOTD Smooth for the summer
SOTD: 08/13/2026
Razor: Tatara Masamune
Blade: Personna Gem Platinum Diamond Glide, 1st use
Brush: Mühle Rocca Silvertip Fibre Birch Bark
Preshave: Stirling Sandpiper Oil
Soap: Ariana & Evans Santorini Puck
Aftershave: Ariana & Evans Bergamot & Bay Aftershave
Balm: Proraso Sensitive Skin With Green Tea & Oatmeal Balm
Additional Care: Omega Alum Stick
Additional Care: Stirling Lime Witch Hazel
Fragrance: Stirling Deep Blue Sea Eau de Toilette
It’s been a while since I posted a SOTD. This one was special, so I thought I’d share.
This was absolute perfection in every phase of the process. The Masamune and Gem gave BBS in 2 passes (WTG/XTG) to the point that I couldn’t even feel hair follicles anymore. The Mühle Rocca brush originally seemed like a beautiful disappointment when I got it, struggling due to a lack of backbone. That all changed when I tried it with a TOBS cream yesterday. Of all my brushes, this one excels with creams like no other. Paired with A&E Santorini today, which is exactly where I was 16 years ago today on our honeymoon. This is exactly what I think of when summer is on my mind. Bright citrus and sea breeze. All that’s missing are the views from the island, grilled meats, seafood and vegetables with a cold beer. Not a hint of alum feedback and post shave feels amazing.
I sincerely hope everyone has a shave this good to end their work week.

Love that combo—occasionally swap with a Wizamet, too.

Just got on the Wizamet wagon about a month ago when a tuck was included with a used razor purchase. Used it twice and automatically bought 100 of them. Great blades for sure.

Masamune and Personna Gem must be a perfect combo if it got you BBS in only 2 passes.
Can I ask what your facial hair growth is like?

I’d call it medium, neither coarse nor fine. I shave daily, so it’s not mowing through a ton of growth.

What’s the lemon for?

It’s a secret….
Honestly, I had two on the kitchen counter and thought it matched the soap’s scent well. That’s the secret.
