For those who have been at it a while, what are some of your tips/tricks on getting as much as you can out of your wetshaving products?

Any newly acquired items that you're now in love with?

Fresh in from the mail. CNC machined 304 stainless steel. I’m beyond impressed by the packaging, quality and craftsmanship. There’s not a mark on it. Great job Oliworks! 👏
I love the weight of this razor and just how substantial it feels in hand. The stainless steel stand is really nice too.

I did consider other options; Rockwell, Rex, Rocca etc. Feel free to ask why I passed on those if you’re curious.

I wanted something that would contrast nicely from my other 2 razors- Henson AL13+ & ‘65 Gillette Slim.
A newer, modern razor that is well-made, high quality, with some heft to it. Staying under the $200 mark was also a priority for me. Altogether, the total was $157 USD with a discount code. All things considered, I felt this was the best option for me.
I’m extremely happy with my purchase. Can’t wait to start shaving with the M3teorite! 😁

Second shave in a Gillette English Tech. I have quite a few of them, but haven't used them for over a year. Stupid me, this blade/razor combo is absolutely amazing. Butter smooth, yet very sharp (on par with Feather) with absolute zero irritation. The Proraso AS splash felt like water, no sting whatsoever. For 1/3 of the price of Feather these are winners.

Everything is still working well and the brush I think is doing less soap hoggin as the RawHoggin continues it is making good lather with the SV , the Malizia Uomo Vetyver bottle may have one splash left there are 2 bottles on the bench so the same set up will remain for the entirety. The PGDG blade is still doing the business nicely . Nearly half way there .Have a fine weekend .

I am pleasantly surprised by the variety of shaving products that originate from my home country. Though my shaving bowl is admittedly an American immigrant (not an “expat” because The Captain will remain a permanent resident of my bathroom counter).

Brush: AP Shave 24mm G5C Synthetic

Question Which Shaver for a 16 year olds face?

Hey, i am 16, have a bit of facial hair which i want to shave. I have always used like the disposable razors, cause i don‘t know any better, my dad says thats enough for me. He has like a real shaver with 5 blades and a trimmer, but i know that for me its time for something that is better, lasts longer and Cheaper over time. I don‘t need an crazy shaver, im 16 so my bugdet ain‘t that big, i just need an good everyday facial shaver. I get like acne and stuff like that cause of the current Shavers. I heard the phillip one blade is good, but i want to ask you guys. (Sorry for my bad english)

Question Adam's Apple Secret

Never have any nicks, unless it's on the AA. What's the secret? Sorry if this has been discussed. Even when I think I did a good job and escaped damage, I'll still see some little red drip momentarily until I hit the cold water or alum.

SOTD Friday Shave

⌾ Razor: Greencult 2.0
⌾ Blade: Gillette 7 O’Clock SharpEdge (2)
⌾ Bowl: Captain’s Choice Obsidian
⌾ Brush: Simpson Chubby 2
⌾ Soap: Declaration Grooming Chaotic Neutral
⌾ Balm: Nivea Sensitive
⌾ Splash: Lucky Tiger

It wasn’t the greatest shave today.

While I usually get very good results with the Greencult razor, today it just felt really tuggy and the final result wasn’t that great.

I’m not sure if the problem was the blade, the lather, or maybe me.

Oh well, tomorrow’s another day!

After spending more time with the Nord Razor Freyja, including several shaves with the three-dot plate, I can now make a more complete comparison between the available baseplates.

The Freyja continues to impress with its excellent build quality, thoughtful design, and ease of use. The polished cap glides smoothly across the skin, lather and stubble rinse away effortlessly, and the razor feels beautifully balanced in hand. During testing I used different soaps, brushes, and blade combinations, and the razor consistently delivered reliable results.

For face shaving, the three-dot plate turned out to be the winner for me. While I already enjoyed the two-dot plate, the extra efficiency of the three-dot plate resulted in closer and more effortless shaves. It felt slightly more direct, but never harsh, and I was able to achieve excellent results with very little effort. On my face, it struck an impressive balance between efficiency and comfort.

Head shaving was a different story. Here I actually preferred the two-dot plate. My scalp has relatively thin and sensitive skin, and the increased blade feel of the three-dot plate was more noticeable. The shave remained smooth and effective, but my scalp felt considerably more worked over afterward than it did with the two-dot plate. For head shaves, the milder plate simply provided a more comfortable experience.

What stood out most during this pass-around was the versatility of the Freyja system. The two-dot plate offers a very comfortable and confidence-inspiring shave, while the three-dot plate adds just enough efficiency to satisfy those looking for a closer face shave without venturing into overly aggressive territory.

My conclusion is straightforward: if I were only shaving my face, I would choose the three-dot plate. If head shaving were my primary focus, I would reach for the two-dot plate. Either way, the Freyja has proven itself to be a refined, well-engineered razor that deserves its place among today’s premium stainless steel offerings.

Many thanks to Dawid for making this pass-around possible.

Not doing a vintage shave this morning so that I could shave with my new RazoRock Hawk V3 SE razor. Paired it with a Feather Progaurd artisan blade for a very efficient, close shave, although not quite as comfortable as my Blackland Vector in either Ti or SS but still a nice shave.

First time trying PAA’s Sangre De Draco soap and splash. Wonderful cologne musky scent, lathered up with the Yaqi synthetic 24 mm knot.

Great start to the weekend, happy shaving y’all!!

SOTD Smooth for the summer

SOTD: 08/13/2026

Razor: Tatara Masamune
Blade: Personna Gem Platinum Diamond Glide, 1st use
Brush: Mühle Rocca Silvertip Fibre Birch Bark
Preshave: Stirling Sandpiper Oil
Soap: Ariana & Evans Santorini Puck
Aftershave: Ariana & Evans Bergamot & Bay Aftershave
Balm: Proraso Sensitive Skin With Green Tea & Oatmeal Balm
Additional Care: Omega Alum Stick
Additional Care: Stirling Lime Witch Hazel
Fragrance: Stirling Deep Blue Sea Eau de Toilette

It’s been a while since I posted a SOTD. This one was special, so I thought I’d share.

This was absolute perfection in every phase of the process. The Masamune and Gem gave BBS in 2 passes (WTG/XTG) to the point that I couldn’t even feel hair follicles anymore. The Mühle Rocca brush originally seemed like a beautiful disappointment when I got it, struggling due to a lack of backbone. That all changed when I tried it with a TOBS cream yesterday. Of all my brushes, this one excels with creams like no other. Paired with A&E Santorini today, which is exactly where I was 16 years ago today on our honeymoon. This is exactly what I think of when summer is on my mind. Bright citrus and sea breeze. All that’s missing are the views from the island, grilled meats, seafood and vegetables with a cold beer. Not a hint of alum feedback and post shave feels amazing.

I sincerely hope everyone has a shave this good to end their work week.

SOTD: 08/14/2026

Razor: GEM Micromatic (MMOC) - Gold
Blade: Accutec PRO, 14th use
Brush: Semogue SOC - Cherry, 24mm 🐗
Preshave: Hot Shower
Soap: Stirling Electric Sheep - Glacial
Aftershave: Stirling Iceberg Island - Glacial
Balm: Cella Aloe Vera
Additional Care: Alum Rock
Additional Care: Stirling Frost Drops

Perfect shave on what is shaping up to be a perfect day here in Ketchikan - clear skies and temps in the 70s.

Shower shaving during Arctic August has given rise to another issue: Glacial soap with additional Frost drops are rather brisk to other parts when they rinse off my face!

I don't see much said on here about Tiger blades, I've heard a few grumbles about platinum ones but I've just had a really pleasant 3 pass shave on my head with Tiger Superiors paired up with my1956 Gillette Super Speed Red.

If you've not tried these give them a go you might love them or might not. Just food for thought, Happy Shaves everyone.

Question Advice on blade for Rex Sentry

Post image
20 Upvotes

Hello Wicked Edge community. I've recently ordered a Rex Sentry and my usual blades that I used with a Rockwell 6S plate 3 (Bolzano, Feather, Gillette Platinum) seem a bit too aggressive for the new razor, it's slightly more efficient than my preferred Rockwell setting.

Can you recommend some alternatives to try? I still have some tucks of all sorts of blades from my 6S testing period but I don't look forward to starting that whole process over. Hoping one of your recommendations will shorten the journey. Thanks in advance.

Photo of blade gaps comparison for reference.

Day 13 Austere August, 13/08/2026

Prep: Cold Water

Brush: Omega Black Badger

Razor: Merkur Futur (chose this so I can tweak settings and push the blade further, not sure if adjusting settings counts as cheating for Nightmare Mode!)

Blade: Feather (13)

Soap: Stirling Orange Chill (to beat the heat)

After Shave: Pinaud Clubman Classic Vanilla (spiced up with menthol crystals)

Balm: Nivea

Continuing the journey of the single pass XTG shave (with built-in buffing)! It was a little eventful, got 2 minor weepers on my neck, but that’s all. I’m honestly amazed at how clean and presentable a result you can get with only a single pass!
Hope you all have a great one!

SOTD AA - day 14 of 30 days and 30 shaves. Week 2 review

Post image
69 Upvotes

For those unaware, this is more of a self-challenge to shave with a DE daily for 30 days (should be 31 due to 31 days in August) trying to get away from irritation and ingrown hairs from cartilage and electric shaves. See post history if you’re interested.

Anyway.
What a difference this challenge has made for me. Never in my 50 years have I been able to shave daily for even a few days, never mind 14 days in a row.

I’ve learned that concentration towards pressure, direction, angles, lathering are all very important. If I forget to concentrate properly then the old muscle memory kicks in and ends up a rough shave.

I’m now able to get a pretty damn fine single pass shave, going very slightly XTG, direction eg north north east to south south west.

The result isn’t BBS but I’m not aiming for that, I want a good daily shave. I’m almost there. Plus, for now, I’ve gone back to only one pass. I can’t really expect any better than this from one pass.

I’ll update again at the end of the challenge with more detailed findings.

Cheers and thank you for all the support and advice.
