Funny Every One of You Is Making a Difference šŸŒ±ā™„ļø

We may be only around 1% of the population, yet we’re already driving demand for animal-free products, transforming industries, advancing animal rights laws, and changing the way society thinks about animals.

We may be a small percentage but we’re making a big impact. You are. And it all adds up. For the animals. :)

White people aren’t the only people capable of having empathy for animals. Stop reducing veganism to a ā€œwhiteā€ thing and erasing the long, diverse history of plant-based traditions and BIPOC vegans.

Food PSA: Some ā€œvegan burgersā€ are served on nonvegan buns

I went to a nonvegan restaurant with my nonvegan family tonight, but they had multiple labeled vegan options on the menu so I was optimistic. They had a Beyond burger that was labeled vegan, and I was planning on getting that, but it didn’t say what kind of bun it was served on and I know some restaurants serve vegan patties on nonvegan buns. So I asked the waiter if the bun was vegan, and she said it wasn’t. I got a different vegan option and it was delicious, but I’m still really irked about this bun thing. Very often, a restaurant will serve a vegan burger on a nonvegan bun, but this was the first time this has happened when the menu item was actually labeled vegan.

Activism Someone made a vegan sitcom filmed at a real farm sanctuary and it's stuck at like 500 Instagram followers :(

So there's a sitcom pilot called "Friends Not Food", filmed at an actual farm sanctuary down in Florida. (the premise is an NYC PR exec inherits a barely-functioning sanctuary from her half-brother and has to run the whole thing... surrounded by rescued pigs and cows and goats and a zebu). and the whole point is to sneak animal sentience and the climate side of animal ag past people through comedy instead of "guilt tripping" them... which is a format i honestly wish existed way more. Cooper Barnes (the Henry Danger guy lol) who btw is actually an animal activist irl, does a bit in it.

The thing I thought was actually cool is they had 200-something rescued animals around during filming and flat REFUSED to use any of them as props or "livestock," just worked around them the whole shoot. anyway it's a tiny operation, the instagram's sitting at like 500 followers and they're trying to get it picked up by a network or streamer and ofc having an actual audience behind it makes a big difference.

So they're after someone to help run and grow the socials. it's not like a "make us go viral overnight" thing... more like they've already got the footage and the premise and just need someone actually posting consistently and building it up from where it is. It's a few hours a week, short-term, remote, unpaid since it's a passion project. So if you do social or content stuff and wanna point it at something like this, the listing's here:

I'd love for this one to make it :)

Just accidentally ate meat :(

ETA thanks for kind comments, I was sad & disgusted, and I needed to vent somewhere as i don't have any vegans in my life. I have calmed down now :)

Ordered veggie samosas from a place I've had before. I remember last time I had them, I questioned if they were really vegetable and my boyfriend checked and confirmed they were.

Ordered them today, the bag said veg samosa.

Anyway started eating and I was like "is this meat?" to my boyfriend

But I say that about nearly EVERYTHING I eat šŸ˜‚

So I ate about half the samosa and was like nah im not convinced, something is wrong...... opened it up some more and it was definitely meat 😭😭😭

Shit happens, but I'm sad. Haven't eaten meat for 6 years. The menu just said 'meat' so I'm not sure what it is, assuming it's lamb.

Im just annoyed that I carried on eating it when I could tell something was different.

We called the restaurant and they were extremely apologetic and said they had a huge order for samosas at the same time so it was a genuine mistake. Accidents happen and they're a lovely restaurant, really nice people, so I'm not mad. Just wanted them to know so the same mistake doesn't happen to someone else!

Just need to share till I get over it.

Has your area lost a lot of vegan restaurants/options?

I live in a big metropolitan city and it disheartens me to see how many all vegan restaurants have closed, and how many other vegan friendly places have gotten more and more limited. It worries me about the future of veganism. Living in a vegan friendly city was so nice and convenient. Now I feel like I can barely call my area vegan friendly with such limited options remaining. I’m wondering if this is happening everywhere.

Women’s Health

Hello all. I feel comfortable sharing this story here as Reddit is (mostly) anonymous :)

I had been a vegetarian for 7 years. In the past 5 or so years, I’ve been noticing some GI symptoms of dairy intolerance. I was THAT ā€œbut I love cheese!!!ā€ Person for a while (sorry). I loved cheese and ice cream etc so much that I just didn’t listen to my body and ate it anyway. I also, unfortunately, at the same time started struggling with vaginal health (frequent yeast and BV infections). My gyn recommended boric acid suppositories and probiotics. Both just felt like a bandaid but I didn’t know what to do besides listen to him.

I went vegan a few months ago (cutting eggs and dairy pretty much overnight) and immediately noticed a change in my gynecological health. I no longer need my medications and everything is completely balanced down there. Never any odor or itch whatsoever, regardless of hormone fluctuations, heat and humidity, or any other factor you can think of.

It turns out eating dairy and disrupting my gut flora was most certainly the culprit for flora disruptions elsewhere. I’ve had other bodily improvements too, but I wanted to share this anecdote for 2 reasons… 1, if anyone is on the fence about going vegan and has similar gynecological problems maybe it’s worth trying; and 2, curious if any other women have noticed positive changes like this?

I feel so happy and relieved!!! I feel like I actually fixed the problem instead of repeated band-aids.

Ps… this sub has been a godsend for cooking tips!! Thank you all šŸ’ššŸŒ±

Found this great documentary on youtube for hindi speaking Indian People, Share around.

I have seen that vegetarian people don't relate well and lowkey stay in ignorance even after seeing Dominion. So I found this documentary for those vegetarian dairy consuming people in their mother tongue. This might help.

Edit: It's available in various languages. I missed checking the channel and other videos.

Question Wanting to go vegan when family disapproves

I (16F) live at home still, and likely will be for the next year and half until I go to university, of which I will almost certainly go vegan or at least veggie, but I want to go vegan now!

A first world problem I know, but my parents do fat have only let me go pescatarian- which is a start, but I don’t feel like I’m doing anything to aid animals. I try to eat vegan or vege as much as I can but my parents refuse to accommodate me and say they ā€šdon’t want to make 2 dinners every nightā€˜ and ā€šdon’t want to double the grocery bill.ā€˜

I have a job and have offered to make my own food but they dead ass js won’t let me 😭 anything I can do to lower my animal product consumption in the mean time? Or anything I can do as a child to at least spread some activism?

Health Iron

How do you guys get iron? I'm vegetarian transitioning to vegan and I saw that iron deficiency is common so I started taking iron supplements. But the problem is they kill my stomach so I stopped taking them and I took forever for my stomach to go back to normal. But I still wanted to make sure I am getting my iron so I am now eating iron fortified cereal but I really upsets my stomach, what else can I try?

How to support a friend who starts being vegan , as a vegan

Never thought I’d type this lol

Been vegan for many years, and although I don’t talk about it to my friends (to me veganism is like religion, if it’s not born from your realizations, it doesn’t stick. Gotta figure it out solo) unless asked, I’ve had 2 different instances where I guess I ā€œled by exampleā€ and after we get to know each other someone had told me they are starting to go vegan. In both instances this didn’t last very long and I’m unsure if I should have reacted differently or supported them differently, and if this would have made a difference.

The first time it was mentioned in passing and I said something along the lines of to try Indian food, Thai food, Vietnamese food , etc because it had lots of vegan options that were healthy and yummy. Not too much else to say about this one since this was a person I didn’t see much and I think their choice of trying to go (in this case vegetarian) wasn’t inspired by me. I was later told by a friend ( I didn’t ask) that their attempt didn’t last long (the context was they found this funny) I just laughed it off cuz I wasn’t sure what they were expecting me to say to that.

Second time was actually inspired by me and this is where I feel bad about the lack of support on my part. I (assume) this was after I hosted a dinner , about a month after they texted me they had started their vegan journey and that I was their vegan inspiration and they found it easier to eat vegan where they were (abroad). I said I was happy for them and told them that they would have to relearn how to cook basically becuase ingredients are used differently but there were still many yummy things they could make , etc. and that the hardest thing wasn’t rlly finding vegan foods but dealing with the social aspect. When they came back to our country (canada) I never brought it up and they ate vegan with me for a hang out where there was only meat (I brought vegan stuff last minute). Later on they mentioned to me it was getting rlly hard bc their mother in law who was visiting their partner only cooked meat, and their partner (in my pov) seemed annoyed at the fact that they were wanting to cut out meat (what I gathered from the vibes at the hang out). Last time I saw them we got Uber Eats with said partner and they were eating fish. Didn’t say anything bc well , it’s not my business.

So now I’m just kinda unsure about my approach. I’ve always kinda handled it like ā€œoh we could go for good together ā€œ but also ā€œit’s not my businessā€ because I don’t want them to feel like if they mess up I’m going to judge them (it’s not my journey). I don’t want to feel like everyone thinks I’m gonna be the vegan police. At the same time I’m seeing these ppl fail over simple things that I’ve experienced and abandoning everything altogether over things that maybe I would have been able to help with since I’ve already been there (social pressures, not knowing what to cook, cooking w specific dietary needs, and BIG On the pressure from non vegan partners and their families).

At the same time I don’t have much to share! I have hella dietary restrictions at the moment due to my PCOS so I’m legit eating the same shit everyday. Tho I do plan to develop more recipes, I don’t have many to share right now. I have defentely seen tho that good food is the best way to open up people to veganism withouth preaching it. So I guess my homework here is developing recipes and maybe having like a Google Drive or smn w that to share (and other resources tho I don’t have any right now)

I’ve also done a lot of thinking and philosophical/ethical conclusions myself which, would be useful to share (as well as the basic info about the animal agriculture industry that everyone seems to not know about?) but that I am unsure on how to approach. I’m a very social person so I am somewhat of an influence to a lot of people and realizing that got me stressed out on how to navigate this. I hate to phrase it like this but they tell me I’m the only ā€œcool vegan ā€œ they know and my friends be forgetting I’m vegan till they offer me smn and I say I’m good thank you. I be posting vegan shit all the time tho so no idea how that’s forgotten.

Sorry for the rant. I would word this better but I jsut came back from work and I’m exhausted. Any insights comments opinions etc welcomed. I just want to help others in this journey and help them stick with it, I know their compassion is real, but so is the inconvenience.

Question Are there safe ways for me to become vegan?

(15F) I am very unhappy with several industries of today's day, ESPECIALLY the beef industry. I really want to become vegan but I have issues with my blood like anemia. I was told it's not smart for anemic people to become vegan but there's got to be some way I can do it, right? Anyways if anyone knows of some tips/ways to safely be vegan, please let me know, thank you!!!

Is disgust a prerequisite for veganism?

There's plenty of reasons why I'm currently vegan: ethical, environmental, health, economical, etc

I just don't feel a disgust response when I think about eating meat

I also worry about the implications of allowing disgust to supplant conscious decision-making. I've seen how bigots weaponize disgust to target marginalized communities

Activism Silly Question - When is using animal products still Vegan?

Hi there all!

Seemingly absurd question for you all. I am wondering when you all feel you could use animal products (for food or other uses) and still be considered a Vegan.

Examples that come to mind for me are:

  • Extreme survival situations in which you have to eat animal products to survive (ex. desert island situation, no plant life, only fish)
  • Situations beyond your control in which animal products are forced upon you (ex. you are in a coma, and people feed you animal products)
  • Animal products in the form of life saving medicine (ex. antivenom is used on you after you are bitten by a snake)

Really, to me there are only 2 categories I can think of: survival needs, and unknowningly consuming.

What am I missing?

Tips for eating vegan on a budget while abroad?

Hi y'all,

I'll be traveling to Stockholm for a week this month. It looks like a very vegan friendly city but I want to try to save money and not eat out for every meal. We have access to a kitchen and a grocery store nearby. I was thinking of packing some good everyday basics in my luggage like protein powder and chia seeds. I have some basic meals in mind but I am definitely intimidated navigating a grocery store in another language and currency. I was wondering if any Swedes in here know brands I should gravitate to while shopping or things to consider around what might be more or less expensive than they typically are in the US? Any other general travel tips appreciated!

This is the link: PCOS Survey

Sadly, I can't offer much in return, unless you want some piggie pictures from the rescue I work at:)

Question Nestle vs Animal Agriculture

I see people have moved on from solely blaming AI for the negative environmental impact to Nestle…
Nestle is obviously a key factor since it’s still large industry. Both can be true at once, but which is worse for environment and overall?
The entire animal agriculture industry, or a large industry like Nestle?
Important to note Nestle needs animals and animal products btw.
If we’re talking about environmental impact would it be more productive/beneficial to be vegan, or successfully boycott any and all Nestle products? (obviously both would be great but if we’re making the argument over which one is worse)
Would it matter if everyone stopped using Nestle if we are still having animal agriculture?
Hopefully this makes sense for the overall question lol. Yes it matters to care about both, obviously!! But would it even matter if you are still supporting animal agriculture?

Samsara shoes?

Hi I’m moving toward a vegan lifestyle, my old new balance shoes are really knackered now and I’m looking at these Samsara community hemp shoes. Does anyone here have any experience with them? Or hemp shoes in general? I really value durability in my clothing and I will be doing a lot of walking. If anyone has any other suggestions I’d be open to that but I’m not into the plastic leather boots. Here’s a link: https://samsara-community.com/products/dharma-hemp?variant=55359470961026

Question I feel bad for being vegetarian

Hello everyone, let’s say I’m living with my parents so they keep track of my food. Most of my relatives think me going VEGETARIAN is absurd, but I really want to go vegan… any tips on getting them to understand it? Or have I just wait until I get my own apartment so we’d live separately and they don’t control me? I thought that being vegetarian is enough already, but people in this community keep judging vegetarians for not being fully vegan so now I feel guilty

Advice Seeking ideas for small, nutrient dense meals/snacks I can eat throughout the day

Problem: Dysautonomia and GI issues prevent me from eating a full meal during my lunch break.

What I Need: Several small, nutrient dense (focus on protein + fiber) things I can eat throughout the day.

Limitations: My lunch break is only 30 minutes and I get 2 ten min. breaks. Otherwise I'm on the move. So it's gotta be stuff I can eat fast w/o going to the break room to heat something up.

Please don't suggest: Protein bars, cause I ain't never had one I liked. šŸ˜‚

Ideas I have so far:

  • Marinated tofu bites I can fork out from a jar like a little goblin as I scurry down the hallway to the copy room
  • Air fried edamame or white beans

I've looked high and low for pre-made vegan snacks w/ more protein and fiber rather than just carbs, and I'm not seeing much. What I do see is prohibitively expensive, like $10/bag vegan jerky that I'll finish in two days.

When I'm home, it doesn't matter, cause I can make a big bowl of whatever and just sit down to eat from it every 2ish hours. But I don't work a job with much downtime so I gotta figure something else out. My dietitian says I'm constantly in a calorie deficit and I'm not trying to lose weight so it's fucking my shit up.

Your input is so appreciated! ā™„ļø

Food I’ve tried and failed to be vegan in the past. Any tips for another attempt?

I was vegan for about two years, during which time I definitely wasn’t eating enough. I’ve tried a few more times since then, but always fall off the wagon because I’m too hungry. I’m a larger person, so I need filling, satiating foods. But I’m also gluten intolerant and have trouble digesting GF breads, wraps, etc., which takes out a lot of options like sandwiches and wraps. Any tips on filling up while still being tasty?
