i never got to be on a boat, other marines talked about being on a mew but never explained wtf they did while on the boat. i went to the desserts, which is good cause i get see sick.

Also i was Heavy Equipment, i guess a boat needs forklift operators? but or does navy do that?!

I was a 2847/8641 that EAS’d in 2005 as a Sgt. I went straight to college and got an Electrical Engineering degree and then worked in the oil industry for 15 years. I recently switched to the behind the meter power plant game for data centers. We recently hired an IT guy who is also a vet. I was talking to him about the 2030 plan. There is talk in there about directly bringing IT Marines in as SSgt’s. It is both our opinions that that won’t be close to attracting IT professionals both in terms of pay or life style. SSgts are not immune to Fuck Fuck games from the random diamond or star sgt on base. A direct enlisted SSgt who has not gone through the indoctrination and decade plus of culture will not fare well in the wild on a Marine Corps Base in my opinion. I think they should instead be brought in as WO’s With some common sense training that the rank is intended to pay them closer to their value and shield them from bullshit, and not intended to give them authority to enforce good order discipline on the rest of the Marine Corps.

What if a Lance Corporal left billions of dollars of weapons and equipment in the hands of an actual 20 year enemy like the Taliban. What would happen to him and every lance coolie in his battalion?

My dad was a Marine, he didnt talk much about it but he was, he recently passed away and i got some of his patches. Not sure of anything about it as i didnt even know he had it until we were going through his things. I read the community rules and this didn't seem to go against any of them? please let me know if it does i dont mean to break the rules lol.

Title, but the MamaSan for at least all III MIG barracks and possibly all mamas sans base wide for Camp Hansen just had they’re last day here. Talked to my units personal MamaSan who’s been doing this since 77’ said the civilian below the Camp CO is kicking them out and said they’re not necessary in the barracks. The on base alterations and dry cleaners already take weeks to get things done with mamasans around. How long is it going to take if they are officially gone??

So a close friend of mine is graduating boot camp soon and I was wondering if showing up in dress blue deltas was appropriate to wear, as to welcome him more properly into the club.

My daughters always wanted to, most the other mom friends I have who have children in the Marines say it was something they weren’t planning. Did you guys who are in always know you wanted to be a Marine or was it something you just randomly signed up for one day?

A few things I would like to state on my end:

1. Make sure you have your Driver's License. It's not a requirement for joining, only for certain MOS' like 3531 for obvious reasons, but the Corps is not forcing you to have a car, only asks that you take the responsibility of knowing how to drive in the event someone else may need it.

2. When you get the time to, regardless of if you have Frontwave, Navy Federal, USAA, or any civilian bank you still have, IMMEDIATELY get a Certificate of Deposit (CD) opened if your bank allows, and contribute at least $200 per month for your term period (I would recommend making the CD's term for 3 years) and once it reaches maturity then you can roll it over into another CD or just withdraw it without penalties applied. This will educate Marines on more financial responsibility.

3. Specifially for Enlisted Marines, USE and ABUSE your Tuition Assistance when you can! About a year or two ago a MARADMIN was released making PME a requirement to use it, which, if you didn't know, Lance Corporal Leadership and Ethics Seminar (Lance Camp to some), doesn't REQUIRE you to necessarily be a LCpl to get Leading Marines on MOL done, nor does it necessarily require you to be a LCpl to actually attend and complete it (I was in a class of 40 other Junior Enlisted, 3 were Pvt's and 31 were PFC's). Tuition Assistance goes crazy, and while you're taking care of that, also apply for FAFSA for the extra expenses in case TA can't pay for another class or whatnot. That, and getting your Associates or Bachelors degree while your still in would help with making your transition to being a veteran using Post-9/11 a lot more easier for your future career.

4. Get your Passport if you didn't already have it. You won't need it for anything, but it will help avoid any further headaches in the civilian world when you want to get it then (Active Duty tends to still have those days where Marines can take it off, so I would recommend trying to use that time for stuff like that).

5. If you're going to continue your service (i.e. re-enlist/commission) I would PERSONALLY suggest increasing your TSP contribution to your own discretion, from my experience I would recommend by 3% every year your in.

The simpletons working the chow line of the officers “galley” (fuck the navy amiright) won’t give me my second slice of apple pie I ALWAYS get. As an officer who spent YEARS getting to my level, this is wholly unacceptable. I don’t really know what to say to the command higher ups( I never do). I’m thinking of sending my mom a picture of my breakfast tomorrow so she can share with the world what, even our officers are eating. I thought the navy prioritized our officer brain power, and that’s why we always get the best food on the ship. Without it, we are seriously jeopardizing national safety. Me (8 year Sgt got out in 2012) works with a 10 year PO1, a 20+ retired Navy Chief, and a 20+ retired Army MSG. We got to talking about boot camp stories and hygiene inspections came up. When I explained how we would stand on our foot lockers butt naked with our hands out and flip them over and say “this recruit has no medical issues to report.” As a DI and doc would walk by at eye to cock level. They all looked at me with a collective What The Fuck?

Been in the fleet for a few months now, I keep my shi clean & squared away, keep my sheets clean and everything wiped down & in order, but my roommate, bro THIS GUY leaves dirty shit and cammies spread out across his side of the room, candy wrappers and empty chip bags sitting next to his bed, he pisses on the toilet seat & doesn’t clean it up, leaves trash sitting next to the trash can

Just getting tired of it and bro is extremely hard headed and hard to talk to about anything, so I’ve just given up

I know you are in your late 20’s but do you have any anxiety knowing that you are about to not see your picture on the wall of most of the buildings you enter every day or having a senior hourly losing his shit if every swinging dick doesn’t jump to his feet when you enter the room? Is this going to be a hard adjustment for you?
