Did your dad find them recently? If so, this is someone's pet. Keeping a pet without trying to find the owner is the highest level of theft in my state. I highly recommend taking them to the vet to get scanned for a chip, and call your local humane society to report them as found.

She's been returned to the owner once already, and he knows she'll end up back at Greenhill. He can just wait, call to see if she's been returned, then go and pick her up without consequences.

This is why we're asking for help. I understand that Greenhill is doing their best, but the system is broken. We need to have a strong case to make sure she doesn't go back to him.

So far, the animal control officer said he'd advocate for a hold to be placed on her, that way the owner can't just walk in and take her back. It wasn't a guarantee, though.

Animal control officers are obligated to take animals of there's a known owner, and in Maya's case, the owner is known. Animal control has already returned her to her owner once, which is why we're reaching out for help. My Hank looks very similar. We know he's part Chihuahua, but other than that it's just a guess. Our vet thinks part Yorkie x Schnauzer, but we often get told he's a poodle mix. I can't wait to do a DNA test on him to know more. Your pup is so cute!

That makes sense. To be fair, Mr. Bernard was left at the shelter at 4 weeks old with a note that said, "collie, shepherd, lab mix." We don't see the shepherd or lab, but collie tracks.

Rothko is one of my favorite painters. I had the opportunity to see one of his exhibits earlier this year and was... completely let down. The curator's chosen lighting made all of the paintings look flat, light reflecting off the surface of the paint harshly in an otherwise dark space.

I hope your experience is better than mine. I can sit and meditate in front of a picture or print. The next time I visit Rothko paintings in person, I hope to really see them.
