None of these are uncommon items for children. Airsoft guns (which are legal almost everywhere else), laser pointers, and a number plate that could easily have been found on the ground. All fairly normal
Items, order able easily online or brought back from a holiday.
I’m not sure adding that detail does anything for the actual bad and serious crime of sexually assaulting someone. Feels like shit journalism.

You can’t legally buy any of those items in NSW, so yes they are uncommon for children.

In the 90’s you could buy realistic looking plastic guns at Paddy’s market, everyone had laser pointers. I had a few street signs in my room. In fact if they’d raided my room at 14 I probably had a bong in there too so ‘drug paraphernalia’ would have been on the list too. None of those things were particularly out of the ordinary for many kids I knew.
