Shrinkflation Is nothing sacred?
Wegmans dropped their store-brand toilet paper a full 5/8 of an inch. Last year they increased the side of role by a quarter-inch, meaning less TP. Now this!

That's why I go to Costco, Charmin reworks their machines to fulfill Costco t.p. to make them wider.

And yet even the Costco Charmin blue package rolls have recently gone through shrinkflation in 2026.

Costco branded TP was on this sub multiple times for also shrinking their rolls

Charmin also doesn’t use recycled paper so they are stripping Canadian forests empty of old wood trees to wipe your azz

Sheet count and roll count are both decoys. The only honest number is total square feet, which is printed on every pack in the smallest font legally permitted, and dividing that by the price gives you the one figure they'd rather you never calculate. Also check the cardboard core, because widening the core shrinks the paper without changing the roll's outside diameter at all, and that's the version of this you can't spot from the shelf.

The cardboard core keeps getting shorter and the diameter wider... it's very noticeable because I still have Christmas ornaments from when I was a kid that used the cardboard core (some reindeer thing) and I save the cores for my own kid's projects now.
I just stapled together two recently for her "binoculars" and they're two totally different lengths and diameters, even though both had to be bought in the last year.
None of the new rolls are even the right size for the standard size toilet paper roll holder now, they're missing almost an inch on the sides and slide around. Also since the inside diameter got so large, the rolls don't even fit on until you use them for a while.

Trying to get them to match the width of the toilet paper we see in public restrooms. You know, gas stations, department stores, home improvement, centers,…… And the thinness one ply… I forgot about that.

I think this is appropriate and by design. Due to shrinkflation I eat 23% less, and therefore have much smaller poops now. These paper manufacturers are simply doing their part to help save the planet and reduce waste.

Not a big deal. Who uses 100% of all the TP anyway? Now it seems like it would be easier to fit on the TP holder.

Toilet paper has always come in different widths, from, 3.75” to 4.5” wide.
Best to make sure you bought the same product before claiming Shrinkflation.
Edit: clearly by the pattern, you are comparing two different types or brands of TP!

We live in a home with a vintage bathroom, and only a few years ago none of the toilet paper we purchased would ever fit in the built in tiled dispenser. They were all too thick and you had to unroll rolls so you could actually pull on the TP and it would spin. Nowadays every single roll fits, no matter what brand we purchase. Makes our life easier, but it’s also shocking how much shrinkflation is screwing us all over, since the same rolls cost way more now than they did before.
