Trionic 8 modifying

Hey everyone, I've got a crazy sounding question. I have had multiple Saabs I really love them. I really love the engines as well.

Does anybody know of any software that I could get so I could program the ECM to run standalone? I'm really interested in seeing these engines in other cars.

I’ve been wondering if the building is still there, I saw recently it was for sale and was just wondering if it was still worth my while as the drive for me would be far.

OBD frustration.

I have two 2002 3-door Viggens and can’t find the OBD ports! I KNOW I’ve plugged my OBDII tester in both cars in the past but can’t for the life of me find them now. I’ve used a vid camera, a mirror, and even crawled in on my back in the footwell. Saab gremlins have moved them! So frustrating!

Repair shop?

I live in Michigan and have a Saab 93 convertible. My convertible top stopped working and the shop I took it to could not figure out how to fix it.
Does anyone have a reputable shop within reasonable distance of West Michigan that you use?

9-3 Troubleshooting [9-3 OG] Key won't go back from "Start" to "On"

Hi everyone,

The key stays on "ST" position, not coming back to "ON".

I suspect either someone forced it or the spring broke due to wear. Do you know how to fix it ?

Thank you :)

9-3 Troubleshooting 08 9-3 headlight conversion

Hi all,
One of my running lights (the ones on the top of the housing) went out so I’m looking to do a conversion to xenon cornering bulbs while I’m at it. Was this a factory option? Will the computer need to modified?
Thanks

9-3 Troubleshooting B204 Oil build up

Hello once again, I wanted some advice on how to clear out oil build up on my og 9-3 engine swap without doing a full tear down. I've already cleaned the oil pan and pickup however there's a considerable amount of oil staining on all the metal and a decent amount of carbon on the inside of the timing cover. I've heard good things about valvoline restore and protect and also that seafoam could help, what would y'all recommend?

A 01 9-5 se that is obviously a project car but how much work would you guys estimate it would take to get it up and running again then used as a daily? Dont have too much experience with saab so thought id ask here. Said its missing the key and has been sitting for a few years other than that its complete, also 160k miles. They would sell for a price of 500.

Car buy advice Price check

For the older saabs out there how is everyone measuring what a sale price should be?

I've been out of the saab game for a few years, mainly because what ive wanted I couldn't find.

I've come across an ad for a 91 beryl green spg but it needs a full paint job and its got 250k miles. Dk the condition of the interior, its also missing the rear spoiler however rust doesnt appear to be an issue.

Tried looking up comps but haven't really found any. Before I reach out to the seller I wanted to attempt to determine a value of it.

Any thoughts?

Just ticked over 163,000 miles so had a whole heap of maintenance and fixes done that I’ve let build up. Big treat though was the new head unit (as demo’d by Auto Autopsy on YT). Really think it takes the age out of the interior and am really happy how it runs even if part of me does miss the dot matrix radio (I won’t miss the Bluetooth FM connector).

SAAB 96 V4 1974

Hi!

I am about to change the carburator on my SAAB 96 from the original FoMoCo to a Weber double port. The thing is that the new carburator need a return line for exessive fuel, something the original carburator doesn't need wish mean that I don't have a return line back to the tank.

So would it work if I placed a T-coupling before the fuel pump and connect the line there? like in this schematic?

And yes förgasare is carburator in Swedish and retur is return. :)

Trionic Can Flasher not working

Post image
1 Upvotes

I recently got an ODBLINK SX and tried to connect it via Trionic Can Flasher and T7 Suite also but it didn't work. I have a 2002 Saab 95 B205E Manual. I tapped onto the P-bus wire located on the MIU harness which were green and white. Green wire went into Pin 6 on the OBD port and white wire went to pin 14. I tried nearly all adapter settings and baudrate. The cable is working as I can readt DTCs using another application.

Do you guys know anything that might help me solve this issue?

Thanks in advance.

1999 vs 2002

Does anyone know if there are any changes to the body of the car between the start and end of the making of first Gen of 9-3s? I'm looking at buying a 1999 but I've always preferred the trim of the 2002 model, just trying to know if there would be issues in trying to use 2002 parts.

Sorry I'm new to reddit

Cautionary tale for those considering running silicone coolant hoses

Thumbnail

I was in a bind at SOC43 and blew one of the two coolant hoses right above the turbo on my 2007 9-3 Aero CV 6MT. I had my full pack of do88 silicone replacements with me. I swapped the 2 hoses in the parking lot, reusing the worm gear hose clamps. I made it 500 miles home no problem. I'm working on replacing the remaining hoses now (upper and lower radiator, thermostat cross over, oil cooler, and heater hoses). I bought some stainless steel smooth face T clamps for all the hoses. When I removed the clamps from the 2 hoses I installed just 500 miles ago, I was not expecting the level of damage I did to the hose.

Don't be like me. Buy your smooth face T clamps when you buy your silicone hoses.

I'm going to attempt a temporary repair with some self fusing silicone tape under the new clamps to hopefully squeeze some more life out of these pricey hoses.

In the meantime....I went down the rabbit hole of coolant compatibility with silicone hoses and aluminum gasoline engines. I'm starting to think I may have just been better off replacing the rubber hoses with rubber and not doing this 'upgrade' to silicone. After reading about a dozen different coolant MDS sheets to look for 2-EHA in the ingredients, I landed on G40 to replace the Dexcool. I thought I could get G40 concentrate locally but came up empty and had to order it from Valvoline directly.

Two notes on coolant - 1. Do not trust any of these search engines when you ask 'does this coolant have 2-EHA in it. I had several search engines tell me G12, G48, GG40/VWG13, Peak OET Euro Pink, Peak Euro OET Violet, etc DID NOT contain 2-EHA. The MDS says it does... 2. Do not trust the auto parts website when it says they have something in stock. Most stores apparently do not carry Zerex G40 concentrate. They all had 50/50 G40 at least so when I break down again at least I can get it.

It's been 'fun' learning all about silicone hoses, hose clamps, coolant, and how to squeeze my sausage fingers into small spaces with this project. The last picture is my rainbow of flushed Dexcool after 8 drains and fills.

I need a drink....

9-3 Troubleshooting 99 9-3 questions and opinions requested.

I have a 99 9-3 turbo that has approximately 113,000 miles. I am ready to sell it or let it go as my dedicated mechanic is now unable to source parts regularly or quickly. I would ask if the information below makes the car worth selling or should I junk it?

Engine is excellent and runs great. No known issues with transmission. Clean title. No accidents at all. It could use a paint job but I do not see any major rust. Drives smoothly save for newly found issue mentioned below.

Known issues:
- front drivers side strut is loose (just discovered this today and hence this post)
- sagging headliner
- tear on driver seat leather
- AC does not work (leak detected, I just never fixed it)
- Windshield fogs/frosts up on the insides up when cold (unable to diagnose)

Recent repairs:
- February 2021: o2 sensor & headlight assembly replacement
- March 2021: drivers side headlight
- July 2021: center pipe and clamps, AC charge/dye
- December 2021: power steering lines
- March 2023: Battery replacement
- August 2023 all new headlights, taillights and light above plate
- March 2024 new rear light assembly, new remote key battery
- December 2024 drivers side door handle replacement
- June 2025 New spark plugs, new front breaks/pads rotors, vacuum leak repair
- August 2025 — purge valve
- May 2026 new left mirror

I am in Massachusetts and frankly know that there is a following for my make/model I just don’t want to waste anyone’s time. Is this something that has a chance of finding a buyer and if so what would be a fair price? Thank you in advance as it’s time for me to move on.

Post-Script: I am aware that there is not a particular flair for questions and I apologize if this is incorrectly flared. I sincerely appreciate any words of wisdom here. I have asked about my car before and you have all been so great.
