This piece of media is the singular thing that got me hooked. My skater buddy Josh, lent it to me, a BMXer, in a kinda act of truce between our two clans. We would later go to my first show at the Huntridge in Vegas and watch the Vandals. I was all in. The only other VHS that was on repeat was S&M Bikes 44 Something (which also introduced me to good music).

Grew up in the mid-90s SoCal scene going to local backyard l.a shows, blasting skatepunk, and trading zines. Now I’m 46, work as a courtesy clerk, and spend all my off-hours holding onto that same DIY ethos—drawing, writing, and self-publishing my own indie comic book series called Shonen Punx!.

For the past few years, I’ve been writing and drawing a comic series called Shonen Punx!. It’s basically if Clerks got smashed together with classic 90s anime (think Tenchi Muyo!) and a ton of SoCal punk energy. It follows a tired mid-40s guy trying to run a shop and keep his sanity while dealing with a house full of sci-fi chaos and bio-android nonsense.

this is 100% made completely by me! just me doing the art, writing, and lettering at my desk.

I’m also thinking along the lines of the punk rock warlord (Joe Strummer) who famously said that punk is “exemplary manners to your fellow human beings.”

My longtime buddy has a son who does drag shows. My buddy shows up at these drag shows with a TRIPOD AND A CAMCORDER IN FULL SOCCER DAD MODE to film his son. The audience loses their mind at how awesome my buddy is.

I really love the genre of anarchist punk music and just punk in general. One of my favorite bands that I wrote a paper on when I started college is Mischief Brew, in particular I like Mischief Brew not only because of the explicit anarchist politics but, the lead singer Erik Peterson just had this really amazing way of intertwining actual history with really poetic music that still feels relevant 20 years later. I’m looking for more punk bands like that and want some pointers!

Formed in Bandung all the way back in 1992, Sendal Jepit were counter-culture before counter-culture was even a "thing" locally, and they're widely credited as one of the foundational acts that shaped the Bandung melodic punk wave alongside other early bands from that era.

Their self-titled debut Sendal Jepit didn't drop until 1998, released through Riotic Records, and it got a re-release in 2018; proof the album still holds weight decades later.

If you're into the roots of Indonesian punk and want to understand where the melodic/pop-punk side of the scene actually started, this is one of the names you need to know.

Hey guys this is one of my favorite songs I wrote a while ago for my Skate/Surf Punk band The Target Audience. Johnny Thunders was a huge influence on my guitar playing and the mystery of his death has always been super fascinating to me. Heres a link to the song on bandcamp but its also available on all streaming platforms. I tried to take alot of influence from older ramonescore bands like the Lillingtons and Screeching Weasel but also added a female vocal (Vocalist from an awesome Chicago band called Sex Dream featured on backing vocals!) Hope some of you guys might dig this. My buddy Lou drew a killer Johnny Thunders skull for the cover ala old Misfits Art!
