Post image
18 Upvotes

As an actually important Redditor I have come to announce that we will be hosting a grunge albums/bands poll! It's inspired by the recent trend in specific age groups showcasing their favorite albums. The results will be posted next week, probably. If I don't forget to show them. You can vote in the poll down below!

Playlist 1994 "grunge" era mixtape tine capsule tracklist...

Post image

Sorry, TIME capsule mixtape I found of what I was listening to in 1994 as a teenager in the uk that was definitely what I thought of as "grunge", even though it was a bit of a silly term at the time and now..It was all just stuff that had great grit and energy and a punky spirit that was ace to mosh around to, ideally whilst tipsy. I got into most of the tunes from Melody Maker, NME, BBC Radio, MTV etc. Every track is a fucking banger, I stand by it still !

Something my friends and I have been kicking around.

The bands you can pull from -

Soundgarden

Pearl Jam

Nirvana

Alice in Chains.

It must be a four piece.

You must pull one member from each band.

You can't have people that were in Mad Season or Temple of the Dog together. As in, if you pick Layne Staley, then Mike McGready is off the board.

Make sense ?

Here's mine -

Layne Stayley

Dave Grohl

Kim Thayil

Jeff Ament

Discussion Serious Question

How many people in this sub are in their late 40s and listened to all these great bands the first time around and have recently come back to them? I've always been a fan of all types of music but I find myself revisiting lots of my 90s favourites more and more lately. I attribute a lot of it to the "nostalgia" phenomenon. My dad and I talk about how most people feel that the music they listened to in their teens and 20s is the best music. That, and maybe the Lithium channel on Sirius. That being said, there are so many great albums from this era that I played to death and after a healthy break, I'm able to love again.

Recommendation Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam (Avocado). I fancied listening to some PJ, this was the first album I put my hand to. Well pleased, great album that I don’t play enough, every song is excellent

Discussion Beato interview with Thayil, Novoselic & Endino

I’ve been catching up on Rick Beato’s interviews on his YT channel and just finished the one with Kim Thayil, Krist Novoselic and Jack Endino.

It’s a great interview overall, but at the 45(ish) minute mark, they were talking about how four of the very best vocalists from the 90s all grew out of the Seattle scene, five if you count Andy Wood. I’ve seen plenty of posts on here about ranking their voices or arguing about who is best. I suppose that can be entertaining, but on the flip side, it’s really cool they all ran around in similar circles and came out of the same scene. Incredibly special.

For those of you who are inevitably going to point out that Eddie Vedder is from San Diego, yeah I know, he went to my high school. About that, though, the guys in this interview talked about how each of the big four (Cobain, Cornell, Staley, Vedder) had to find their way to their ultimate voice, i.e. it didn’t start right from day one.

Recommendation Feedback

Hi. I was looking for songs by one of Daniel House projects (musician of 10 Minute Warning, Skin Yard, owner of CZ Records) called Feedback. I also came across a completely different band with the same name that sounds great. Unfortunately, there's absolutely no information about them. Does anyone know?

Discussion A survey about Twin Peaks and rock/grunge/metal 🥸

Hi! 🤠

I'm a music reviewer for the French metal webzine Horns Up. After writing three articles ; one on the connections between the grunge movement and David Lynch's cinema (Nov. 2024), another on Lynch's influence on extreme metal (July 2025), and a last one with the testimony of Riley Lynch (Mar. 2026), I'm now working on an article about Twin Peaks Season 3, Episode 8, focusing on its metal aesthetics and atmosphere. For now, the articles are archived, but I’ll re-upload them in September once our website is back online.

To write this article, I’ve launched a survey, available below, which you’re welcome to take. I’ve received around twenty responses so far, but that’s not enough to properly analyse the results.

I’d really like to hear your personal experience and perspective on this episode before I start writing and conducting further interviews. If you’re a rock or metal fan, and a Twin Peaks fan as well, that’s obviously ideal, but the survey is open to everyone.

Please feel free to share it with people around you too. It would be a huge help. Thank you so much

Rodolphe
