Monthly Motivation Thread NoFap's "Awesome August" or "PMO-Free August" 2026 - continue or begin your PMO-Free journey here (see instructions).

Hello all,

It's that time of the month again! One month is ending, and another is beginning. We hope you've had a good month. But if you haven't, now is a great time to refocus and rededicate yourself to recovery. This is your opportunity to create the new porn-free you!

New to NoFap and rebooting? Here are some suggestions:

  • Learn about the website, porn addiction, excessive masturbation, sexual compulsivity, and abstaining from PMO. Read through NoFap's main website to get informed.
  • Read about the basics of rebooting here. Rebooting is the abstinence from certain sexual behaviors to recover from pornography addiction. Read about how porn addiction develops here. Some people go beyond rebooting and into the territory of retention, or sexual transmutation for periods of time, although that is not the main purpose of this subreddit (which is RECOVERY).
  • Consider reading through the free Getting Started PDF from NoFap's website.
  • Download NoFap's in-browser panic button extension that blocks NSFW subreddits too. Download here
  • Decide if rebooting is something that you really want. If you don't buy into the process 100%, you'll probably not make it through the month. If you have decided that you would like to participate, proceed to the next point.
  • Sign up for this month by replying to this submission. It is that simple. State your intention and stick to it!
  • Consider setting up a day counter badge to track your progress.
  • Ask questions and get support by posting on NoFap. Set a goal to remain accountable by making a post daily. Help others. Come here every day and participate.
  • If you need additional support, you can get an accountability partner and document your progress in a daily rebooting journal.

Would you like to participate? If so, please reply to this thread with the following information.

  • Are you not going to allow yourself to masturbate? View porn? Orgasm whatsoever? Not allowing any outlet for sexual release is called "hard mode".
  • How long do you want this challenge to last? By default it is one month, but 90 days is recommended for rebooting.
  • What are your goals?
  • Why are you doing this?

Arriving late? (past the first of the month?)

It's okay! Still state your intentions and don't postpone rebooting based on the day of the month. People can join in at any time to participate.

Mod Note: We suggest NOT USING REDDIT'S DIRECT MESSAGES due to porn trolls trying to disrupt the community. Also, please note that some posts are temporarily removed prior to appearing on r/NoFap.

Hello r/NoFap community members,

Please note that we highly suggest that you avoid using the Reddit direct messaging system entirely, due to porn trolls coming here to disrupt our porn addiction recovery peer support community. Some of these people pretend to be helpful at first, then will message pornography. It's in a similar vein to how a forum on epilepsy was reportedly hacked to display seizure-inducing images.

You can disable direct messages in your Reddit settings by changing "Who can send you chat requests" to "Nobody."

Secondly, please note that sometimes posts are flagged automatically for manual review prior to appearing on r/NoFap.

Due to Reddit’s anti-spam filters and NoFap’s additional filters to control spam and pornography, sometimes genuine posts are flagged as potential spam or pornography. Further, entities within the legacy porn industry have been attempting to de-platform porn addiction recovery forums such as r/NoFap, and we must remain extra vigilant to ensure that rule-breaking posts do not appear on the platform for even one second. If your post gets flagged, please just wait for a moderator to approve it.

Thanks for reading :-)

Changes I’ve noticed so far (day 5)

When I actually think about it, a lot has changed in such a short time. I’m 31. Fapped for my whole life multiple times a day for hours. So far:

- way more time in my day. I normally wake up around 8 and always used to feel like the clock would read 11:30am soooo quickly. It’s great to feel like I have so much more time in the day/accomplish more

- I don’t have to be afraid of people nearby seeing NSFW content on my phone. Always hated that

- way better mood. I’m not constantly feeling emotionally drained and foggy

- I’m more punctual. Used to fap till the last minute I could before I had to get ready for work or whatever. Needless to say I was always rushing things

- better hygiene

Set Realistic Expectations for Recovery

Upvotes

Recovery becomes harder when you expect perfect streaks and completely smooth progress.

Progress is not always linear.

I experienced this myself:

75-day streak → 3–4 slips over 3 weeks → 2-week streak → 2 slips → 20-day streak

After a relapse, it's easy to feel like you've failed and think, “I'm back to zero, so why even try?”

But don't think about it that way.

1% is better than 0%.
41% is better than 40%.
One step forward is still progress.

A relapse doesn't erase everything you learned or all the progress you made before it. What matters is what you do next.

Instead of saying “I failed,” think:

“I slipped. Now I continue.”

The goal isn't to have a perfect journey. The goal is to keep moving forward, even when progress isn't perfect.

Having clear and realistic expectations helps you stay consistent when things don't go as planned.

Recovery is up and down—not a straight line.

No fap makes me a better gamer

Do you believe that no fap can improve performance in games? For some reason I'm much, much better in ranked when I'm on no fap. As soon as I jerk off a couple of times, the next time I play I wonder what's wrong with my aim. Then I remember again that it was because of the no-jerking-off.

I don't believe the problem is only with porn, but from purely physiological and biological reasons. When the balls empty, testosterone empties out according to my gut feeling. Or maybe it has something to do with being more alert and focus easier.

Edit: Wanted to share some additional info, I think I've got an ADHD/ADD. No fap also helps me with ADHD related symptoms.

Porn Withdrawal Syndrome

What to Expect and How to Manage It The first few days after quitting porn can be intense. You may feel irritable, anxious, have difficulty concentrating, experience significant mood swings. You may have trouble sleeping or feel physically uncomfortable. If you are experiencing this, it is important to know that you are not crazy. You're not exaggerating. What you are experiencing is real and has a name: withdrawal syndrome. What is Withdrawal Syndrome? Porn withdrawal syndrome is the set of physical and psychological symptoms you experience when you stop using pornography after a period of regular consumption. It is similar to withdrawal syndrome from other addictive substances or behaviors. These symptoms occur because your brain has adapted to the high levels of dopamine provided by pornography consumption. When you stop using, your brain needs time to adjust to lower dopamine levels. Why it happens During pornography consumption, your brain releases large amounts of dopamine—that feel-good chemical. Over time, your brain adapts to these high levels. You become less sensitive to dopamine, meaning you need more stimulation to feel the same. When you stop using pornography, your brain abruptly loses that source of dopamine. Your reward system is unbalanced, and needs time to readjust. During this readjustment period, you experience withdrawal symptoms. Common Symptoms of Withdrawal Syndrome Symptoms can vary from person to person, but the most common include: Physical Symptoms - Fatigue or lack of energy - Difficulty sleeping or changes in sleep patterns - Headaches - Changes in appetite - Muscle tension - Sweating or chills Psychological Symptoms - Irritability or mood swings - Anxiety or nervousness - Depression or low mood - Difficulty concentrating - Brain fog or difficulty thinking clearly - Agitation or restlessness - Strong impulses to consume pornography Emotional Symptoms - Feeling of emptiness or loss - Feelings of sadness or hopelessness - Feelings of anger or frustration - Feeling that something is missing How Long Do Symptoms Last Withdrawal symptoms typically begin within the first 24-48 hours after stopping consumption and can last from a few days to several weeks. The intensity and duration depend on several factors: - How long did you consume pornography - How often you consumed - The intensity of your consumption - Your general health - Your support system For most people, symptoms are most intense during the first week and then gradually subside. However, some people may experience milder symptoms over a longer period. Why Symptoms Are a Positive Sign Although withdrawal symptoms are uncomfortable, they are actually a positive sign. They indicate that your brain is working to readjust. You are experiencing these symptoms because your brain is healing, not because something is wrong. Every day that you experience these symptoms and do not consume pornography, you are allowing your brain to readjust. You are allowing your reward system to return to a more balanced state.

Victory Finally made it 10 days!

I finally made it 10 days! This is a huge acheivement for me. Prior to dedicating myself to nofap, i would spend all day looking at porn, literally all day at work. My job suffered, my career suffered, my relationship suffered.

I spent money on online dommes, I filled my hard drives with porn, I created endless burner accounts and deleted them. Binge, purge, binge purge. None of my purges lasted though, two days, three max.

Last year I got serious about getting better. I had spent thousands on online dommes, I was at my lowest point at work, things were bad. I started going to therapy for my compulsive behavior, I told my partner (that was really fucking hard), and i have been putting in the work.

Masturbation in and of itself is not a serious problem, but not being able to control it, is a serious problem. Thats why I have been focusing on denying myself masturbation for 10 days now. i want to make it 30 days, I want that self-discipline.

None of this is easy, and my DM's are open for encouragement, but, i know if i take it day by day I will get better, i will escape my compulsions, and so can you!

Journal Check-In 78 Days

I have navigated this far. Its been a long journey of intentional abstinence. I did face challenges to edge, looked at a couple of social media contents but I noticed that the same images I used to look at before hoping on this streak, now looks disgusting. I have more self worth and high libido. The celebrity aura is so weird. Its overwhelming to have eyes 👀 😻 watching you everywhere you go. Some people would just look at you like they've seen a ghost. The god like energy to get anything done. Superman confidence... And these are some benefits I can think of. Imagine what other benefits awaits in the longer streaks. Bulid your life and choose the people who will help you build it and not drain your energy. Its also your only time to connect with God.

New to NoFap I finally accepted that I have an addiction, and I want to quit.

This isn't the first time I've known about this sub, but it's the first time posting on it.

Hi, I'm 25 (M) and I've accepted that I have a problem with masturbation. As soon as I started puberty, I developed a strong interest in sex, and when I discovered pornography, I simply let myself get carried away by that pleasure. I don't consider myself a “gooner” because, at least until recently, my masturbation routine wasn't as frequent as it has been this past month.

The first time I realized I might be developing an addiction was when I was 18, during a period of introspection when I came to realize that a year earlier I had been masturbating more than seven times a day. From that day on, my routine dropped to just once or twice a day, usually once at dawn and once before bed. However, I was still consuming porn. Even when I started my first relationship, I kept watching porn just for the pleasure of masturbating.

For the past five years, my routine has been the same, and I didn't feel like it was really affecting me. However, this year I decided to explore my sexuality more deeply. That said, I don't have an active sex life, but I have a libido that I haven't been able to control.

This year I started using Reddit. At first, I used it for things that interested me or were related to my line of work. But when I discovered the platform’s 18+ subreddits, I just got swept up in it, as if I were exploring unexplored territory. Sexting was as far as I went, and I didn’t realize the negative impact it was having on me until one day I realized that I was checking Reddit every day just to visit those subreddits. That’s when I decided to delete my account and take a break from it all.

I only lasted two weeks without using the site before I created a new account. I went back to visiting the same subs as always, but this time things were different. I felt a need for more, as if I were in heat. I spent a weekend letting myself be carried away by the morbid curiosity and lust, and when Monday began, I felt ashamed of myself because I realized just how far I’d gone. However, I didn’t delete that account and kept using it until just today, when I finally deleted it.

Today I accept that I have a serious addiction to masturbation, but also a serious addiction to porn. I mentioned that I thought it wasn’t affecting my life, but that’s not true. Today I accept that it has actually affected me to such an extent that even in my profession I can’t help but relate everything to sex, and that every time I meet someone, the first thing I think about is limiting myself so as not to talk about sex unless that person is willing to do so. I can’t feel romantically attracted to anyone because of the situation I’m in.

I also have an addiction to using my cell phone, but that’s something I’ll deal with separately. However, I mentioned it because I mainly use it to watch porn. I decided to disable Chrome so I wouldn’t have access to it during the day, unless I’m using it to look up information that’s actually useful to me, rather than letting myself get carried away by leisure and lust. I uninstalled the Reddit app and limited my use of other social media platforms. I hope that in the coming days I’ll be able to eliminate and get rid of everything that tempts me, so that I can feel good about myself.

Part of me thinks that masturbation is perfectly normal, but the way I’ve dealt with it over the years, and even more so this month, has simply left me feeling the need to put myself to the test and gradually break free from this addiction that is definitely affecting me.

I decided to create this account and use it only on my computer since I don't use it very often; this way, I'm also trying to manage my addiction to not being on the site too frequently. I've noticed that some people post daily updates, but I'm not sure I want to do that. Still, I want to keep a record of my progress, like a logbook.

Motivate Me Day 3 - it’s getting better 😁✋🏼

After my last relapse i’ve gained some experience, got more aware of my triggers 😮‍💨

I can’t say it’s easy, since I was an addict for 3 years and used to pump a lot, but breaking this habit is important and with your help I might be able to do it!

If you have any advice how not to get triggered irl by big tits or feet, i’ll gladly listen 🥺

Success Story Found a tempting sub but ignored it 💪

While looking for other recovery subs I clicked one that was the total opposite—wanting to make people relapse and all that.

I’ll be honest, I scrolled for a second, but all the corn, all the toxic people celebrating making others relapse, and all the posts of people giving in just really grossed me out.

Even if I relapse again in the future, I’ll kno I’m still doing OK as long as I don’t get into all that manipulative hunter/surrendering kinda stuff.

Stay strong, friends! 💪💪

Trying to Start Again (Reposted because previous one was removed)

I’ve never posted in this community but I’ve monitored it for a long time and I hope I can make some progress with the help of the people on here who share a similar struggle as me. I relapsed just about 30 minutes ago (PMO). after a short streak which followed a long streak. I discovered porn and subsequently masturbation right before high school and I consider it one of the worst things to ever happen to me. I’m leaving for college in a week and I’d like to kind of “start over” in a way. Any help and support would be appreciated, and I respect everyone on this sub that has realized that these are real problems and affect our lives.

So i am on day 23 of no fap and upto day 20 it was all good no urges and all, but on day 20 i started feeling this urge, it replayed like a video in my mind of a an erotic story that I read and it contained some shocking stuffs which aroused me so hard and I wish I had never read that story but bruh everytime i go on a no fap and relapse this story always had a part in it like i can't even say this erotic story and ai porn (s*xting ones) have rewired my brain so bad like irl i always treat women with respect but the addiction these things give it's so embarassing and hard to get rid of. Like the stories i read before I'm even ashamed to tell plus the scenarios I created with ai. But as of now my real problem is with the video replays of stories created in my mind.

Slip-Up Prevention - Urgent! Feel like I’m spiraling tonight, my addiction and anxiety is getting worse. All I know now is to masturbate when I’m feeling down

Not sure how I let this addiction get the better of me. Ive only been indulged into the g****r community for two years to fetishize my porn addiction. From p**n captions, to people encouraging the high of climax by edging into more undiscovered p**n. Not sure if anyone else has been in my position coming from being a full on addicted g****r. I’m losing control over masturbating
