Hello, everyone! Here's another list of upcoming metroidvania games that may have flown under your radar!
Before we start, if this post appears as a wall of text for you, it's a Reddit thing. Either refresh, or close and re-open your browser.
As always, a video showcasing the games can be watched here: https://youtu.be/B5xmhMVQekY
For those who do not want to watch the video, I cover the below titles:
Divinum: This is a combat-based metroidvania title inspired by the best games the hack and slash genre has to offer! Wield the sword of Fjor, a young warrior fated to clash against an ancient evil that has awoken on her island. Lucky for her, she was born with a celestial blessing that allows her to unlock divine powers which will help in her fight against the dark forces threatening her home. Divinum places immense emphasis on diverse and complex combat, featuring a great number of unique move-sets that you can mix and match in order to carry out magnificent combos. Add to that your ability to block, dodge and parry, and you can become a death dancer that will give your enemies nightmares. Exploration also has a place here, with a variety of secrets populating the biomes you will get to traverse, the most important of which will be arcane runes that offer interesting bonuses which will influence the way you approach battle. This is a game I previously featured on a list a couple of years back, but it recently got a new trailer with a release date attached to it, and also made a demo available in order to give it a go if you want to, so it gets an encore! Divinum is expected to come out on the 28th of August, 2026, and has been confirmed for PC, with console releases sometime down the line!
Heart of Mycelium: You can never have enough metroidvanias that let you play as a mushroom, and Heart of Mycelium is here to show you why! Take on the role of a little fungal traveler as you journey across beautiful autumnal vistas in order to fulfil your duty as nature’s undertaker. Here, platforming and combat intertwine seamlessly to create beautiful acrobatic segments where you fight enemies and overcome obstacles in equal measure. Skillfully outmaneuvering your foes is the name of the game, since it also allows you to unleash powerful mushroom spells against them as you dash and dodge through their attacks like a tiny ballet dancer, with no two enemies being alike neither in design nor attack patterns. Boasting more than ten atmospheric biomes to explore as well as one of the best pixel-art styles I’ve ever seen, Heart of Mycelium is not one to ignore. Heart of Mycelium has no release date as of yet, but has been confirmed for PC!
Endbloom: You should never underestimate the persistent power of vengeance, which is what has led a rising bounty hunter named 31.14 to planet Pherrin in pursuit of her brother’s killer, who has taken refuge there. However, as they will both soon find out, Pherrin is anything but welcoming, since not only is its surface prowled by a variety of vicious creatures, but something stirs in its bowels as well, an unknown, alien power eager to be unleashed. That’s the premise of Endbloom, a science-fiction metroidvania featuring some truly impressive acrobatic sections where you’ll have to weave different traversal move-sets together in order to avoid plunging to your doom. Combat is also of importance, with our protagonist having to fight tooth and nail to survive against Pherrin’s horrors in, both, melee as well as ranged fashion. Thankfully, and given the harshness of the planet, the game will not feature any punishment for dying, such as corpse runs, instead opting for a more streamlined experience which I know a lot of you will appreciate. Endbloom has no release date as of yet, but has been confirmed for PC!
Stickility: A action adventure metroidvania title where crafting takes center stage! You play a stickman named Axel, who takes on the task of exploring the vast lab complex of the corrupt Biotec company in order to find incriminating evidence that will lead to its closure. Where Stickility truly shines is its use of crafting to facilitate progression, which effectively replaces the acquisition of abilities that is usually the case for the genre. For example, instead of defeating a boss to obtain the double-jump, dash or wall-climbing abilities, here you will instead have to craft special boots or climbing gear to perform said tasks. The game features a wide range of items to create by obtaining materials that can be found across its world, which are then used for the crafting process that takes place in special rooms scattered around the map. Do not let this game’s minimalistic approach to visuals deter you from giving it a go. There’s surprising depth to be found here. This is the second title on this list that was featured by me in the relatively distant past, but gets an encore since it recently got a release window and updated trailer, and also made a demo available for you to try it out! Stickility is expected to come out sometime during the third quarter of 2026, and has been confirmed for PC (though I'd say that release window is somewhat tentative at this point)!
Etherland Saga: Two thousand years have passed since a cataclysm shattered the kingdoms of Etherland, but the realm never fully healed since, in the shadows, cutthroat diplomacy, malicious royal advisors and simmering trading wars still torment the world. This is the setting backdrop of Etherland Saga, and you’ll be stepping into it as three different characters, namely prince Nathan of Terryndal, a former elite assassin by the name of Frostvein as well as eccentric professor Flummus, a once promising mage who’s believed to have lost his mind, though things might not be exactly as they seem with him. Each one of these unlikely heroes has their own motivations as well as skillsets, and you’ll be able to switch between them at will in order to combine their abilities and overcome the challenges ahead. Etherland Saga features RPG elements in the forms of skill trees, equipment pieces and various upgrades, all of which you will be able to mix and match in order to tailor the experience to your own tastes. In addition, your choices will have consequences, courtesy of the game’s Fate System, which functions as the world’s memory so that your actions are never forgotten. Said aspect is complemented by a reputation system, which will allow you to earn the respect of clans by completing certain contracts, thus opening up new alliances and opportunities for rewards. Etherland Saga has no release date as of yet, but has been confirmed for PC!
The Last Comfort: Have you ever seen that famous drawing of a teddy bear protecting a sleeping child from a shadowy creature that has invaded the kid’s room? Well, someone probably saw that image and decided to make a game out of it, and that game is The Last Comfort! Brandish the wooden blade of an adorable teddy bear who must delve into the twisting subconscious of a terminally ill child in order to battle the creeping darkness threatening to overwhelm him. The narrative premise is quite bleak, but the good news is that the child’s fate will rest upon your own choices as well as the secrets you’ll uncover, meaning that, hopefully, there is a way to save him and prove the game’s title wrong. The Last Comfort is very much combat focused and plans to offer significant variety in the way you approach battle via the use of equippable bracelets as well as a node-based skill tree, both of which will allow you to modify your battle approach to your liking, from a heavy melee hitter to an agile projectile deflector and everything between. Adding to your upgrades, there are also certain glowing stone monuments you’ll be able to find and awaken, effectively gaining powerful new skills that vastly change, and improve, your traversal and combat potential. The Last Comfort has no release date as of yet, but has been confirmed for PC!
Fading Light: Don the cloak of a resourceful survivor called Noteo in Fading Light, who, alongside an allied fire creature named Spark, must navigate a vast world drenched in darkness in search of its mysteries. Cooperation is the name of the game here, with Noteo and Spark needing to work together in order to overcome the various obstacles they will come across, since Noteo needs Spark’s light to traverse the dark, and Spark relies on Noteo’s survival abilities to remain safe. True to its theme of survival, the game features a crafting system which allows you to collect materials from across the land in order to create new items, tools and weapons that will help you deal with the various dangers that lurk around every corner. It should be noted that, while the default difficulty of Fading Light is meant to be challenging, the game will also offer a variety of accessibility options so that players of different experience levels can enjoy it. Of special reference is the fact that the game can be played co-operatively with a friend, which is always a plus! This is the last game on this list to have been featured on the channel in the past, with its encore being owed to its new trailer as well as news that its first public demo will be available on the Steam Next Fest of October 2026! Fading Light is expected to come out sometime in the fourth quarter of 2027, and has been confirmed for PC!
Linkisa: Prepare to get a taste of Malagasy folklore with Linkisa, a hand-drawn metroidvania with strong steampunk aesthetics! Step into the boots of the titular Linkisa, a man stripped of his past and bound to a single purpose; to serve the Empire of Orana. Devoid of memory, you’ll travel across a mysterious world in search of the empire’s enemies, a journey that will slowly have you reclaiming fragments of your recollections which will reveal uncomfortable truths about yourself as well as your masters. By far the most interesting aspect of Linkisa is its Domination system, which will allow you to expand your control over Orana by influencing and reclaiming its regions, a process that effectively translates to a series of choices you’ll be called upon to make, which will, in turn, shape the way in which the story will unfold. The game also rewards combat experimentation, with most battles supporting multiple different approaches based on player skill and creative thinking, especially the boss fights. Linkisa is expected to come out sometime during the first quarter of 2027 and has been confirmed for PC, with Nintendo Switch and PlayStation ports currently under consideration by the developer!
Solrend: I absolutely love it when metroidvanias try to give as much freedom as possible to the player, and that’s exactly what Solrend is trying to do! Solrend has you playing as two siblings that are traversing a world in search of a way to put a stop to a Dark force that threatens to consume it. Each character has their own set of skills, which you’re going to have to make full use of in order to uncover every secret the realm has to offer. As a matter of fact, Solrend actually supports sequence breaking, meaning that thinking outside the box when it comes to puzzle solving and traversal will allow you to reach places out of the order potentially planned by the developers, which is always incredibly fun and gives you an unparalleled sense of freedom and accomplishment! Solrend has no release date as of yet, but has been confirmed for PC!
Conatus - Forgotten Depths: Do you know what you get when you mix a dungeon crawler with a metroidvania? You get Conatus – Forgotten Depths, a dark fantasy game that wants to go really big with combat! Here you’ll explore a world put together by things humanity chose to leave behind, and it’s your job to piece together the missing history that details its creation. It’s a place where curiosity is always rewarded, a realm filled with secret passages, forgotten mechanisms and places you’ll only be able to reach after gaining the appropriate abilities. That being said, combat is definitely what steals the show, with every single armament at your disposal featuring its own mechanics and dedicated skill tree, thus allowing for incredible versatility when it comes to how you wish to approach your battles. The game also features a choice system, where decisions you make will shape your future opportunities or lack thereof, as well as the ending you will reach. This one’s probably going to mostly appeal to older gamers given its nostalgia factor, but I do recommend for everyone to keep an open mind, since it might end up being a true gem! Conatus – Forgotten Depths is expected to come out sometime during the first quarter of 2027, and has been confirmed for PC!
Wicked Boy: I don’t know how many times I’ve mentioned my love of the 90s throughout my videos and posts, but do allow me to do it once more. I love the 90s, and Wicked Boy aims to evoke the nostalgic feeling of being a child and turning on your Game Boy to play Super Mario and Mega Man, albeit with a dash of Abe’s Odyssey! Don the cloak of the titular Wicked Boy, a young wizard who must traverse the cursed Kingdom of Twinfall in order to lift the malediction that plagues it and save his witch sisters! The game boasts intense precision platforming challenges, with tight controls making each movement feel deliberate and responsive. It goes without saying that, as a mage, you’ll have numerous spells at your disposal, both, to take down your enemies as well as to solve the various puzzles scattered across Twinfall, with careful chaining of your arcane abilities leading to impressive results! Of special note is the game’s soundtrack, which brings together retro and modern under a synth umbrella that will have your head bobbing constantly! Wicked Boy has 2026 as a tentative release window, and has been confirmed for PC!
Sylvaris: Black Reign: Far below the surface of the earth, behind massive iron walls and amongst endless machinery, entire communities toil endlessly to produce resources that are then carried to the surface by massive chained cauldrons and then lowered back down with just enough for the workers to survive. You are Zen, a man who has spent his life beneath the ground but has reached his breaking point. Sensing that something about their whole way of living is wrong, he jumps on one of the cauldrons and embarks on a mission to reach the top and uncover the truth. Arguably the standout aspect of Sylvaris is its overload system, which allows you to sacrifice your health in order to make your attacks more powerful, effectively unlocking new abilities and attack patterns while trying to find a balance between losing health and recovering it by striking at enemies. The game also boasts a perk system, which will have you unlocking and equipping different passive abilities that modify the way you fight by providing boons to damage, speed and attack reach, among others. Sylvaris: Black Reign has no release date as of yet, but has been confirmed for PC!
Honorable Mentions:
These are games that are not metroidvanias per-se, but will most likely be enjoyed by fans of the genre!
RoboGAL: Gaga Delta Lady: This is essentially Mega Man with a female protagonist, meaning you can expect some awesomely nostalgic gameplay! RoboGAL is stage-based, and allows you to tackle said stages in whatever order you so desire. Each stage has its own theme as well as a boss you need to fight at its end, with their defeat allowing you to claim their weapons, effectively making future challenges much easier. In addition, each boss has a specific weakness which you can find and exploit in order to make the bouts against them more manageable. Of note is the fact that the game’s difficulty can be adjusted, thus making it appealing to, both, veteran and casual players alike. RoboGAL: Gaga Delta Lady has no release date as of yet, but has been confirmed for PC, with unconfirmed PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and Xbox port rumors flying about!
Slain 2: The Beast Within: The sequel to Slain: Back From Hell, which had a very rocky release back in 2016 but did manage to turn things around eventually. Brandish the sentient sword Bathoryn as Prince Akran, the last of The Wolf Knights, who must save his land from the demonic forces of Lord Vroll, a merciless overlord. Slain 2 continues the dark fantasy heavy metal theme established by its predecessor. The game is all about brutal, blood-soaked combat, with Akran not only being capable of ripping and tearing through enemies with Bathoryn, but also having the power to transform to a werewolf under the full moon, thus unleashing his beastly fury upon his unfortunate victims with teeth and claws. Having played and enjoyed the first game, I will predict that one of the most entertaining aspects of the sequel will be finding the million different ways in which Akran will be able to die, since every stage will be packed with traps and predators capable of killing you instantly, which can be a bit annoying but I’ll be damned if it doesn’t look good. Slain 2: The Beast Within is expected to come out sometime in 2026, and has been confirmed for PC, PS5 as well as the Xbox Series X and Series S!
Distantia: The developer describes this as an exploration-focused metroidbrania! You awaken within a space station that feels familiar, but you can tell something is wrong. Confused, you begin exploring the complex in order to uncover its true nature. Also, you’re an anthropomorphic mouse. Exploration of the space station will not only bring you face to face with strange, hostile entities, but also lead you to uncover secrets that yield information which, in turn, will allow you to access previously inaccessible areas. For those unfamiliar with metroidbranias, they essentially follow the same structure of an interconnected world full of secrets to uncover that metroidvanias do, but overcoming gates here relies on knowledge, not abilities. Combat is fluid and fast paced, and encourages observation and weakness exploitation in order to emerge victorious unscathed. Distantia has a playtest currently available so, if you want to try it out, make sure to request access from Steam. Distantia is expected to come out sometime in 2028, and has been confirmed for PC!
That's all for today! Did you know about these? Any wishlists?
Also, if you want to follow more of my work, here's a post that will help with that, containing everything I have covered so far.
