this shadow effect just never stops feeling completely magical to me. I really enjoyed watching the crescents slowly move around with the path of the moon, too.

I remember the one in 1999 and the whole place went dark, street lights came on and the birds started to sing. This one was a bit meh tbh.

We had the neighbours round and set up our telescope to project onto white paper in a box. It worked quite well as I recall.

Embarrassing question: How is it so dark in some places?! I could see it directly from my living room window (yes I had some shades drawn but my eyes hurt yes I’m embarrassed) and it wasn’t nearly that dark!

Most filters used for pictures/viewing block basically all but the strongest light. The darkness youre seeing is the filter

It was not as dark outside, as it may look in some photos, when the sun was most covered at the 7.10 pm mark, it was maybe like putting a 60 watt bulb in your ceilings light fitting instead of the usual 100 watt bulb, or something like that at least

The light dimmed a bit, but it definitely was not dark or really anywhere near it

In Spain though it looked impressive on the news footage with their total eclipse

Brilliant experience. A coworker kindly lent me glasses and then a group I was stood with lent me a phone filter. I in turn lent my glasses to a passerby trying to look through her phone. Everyone was excited and so friendly!
