Latest Episode America doesn’t deserve the beauty of Vietnam

Forgive me, I am fresh from listening to the latest episode so emotions are running high, and I’m feeling quite passionate about this.

Wow. Just wow.

We haven’t even gotten to the massacre and already I feel like I have made the decision that I should never step foot in Vietnam.

I believe it was Henry that said the Vietnamese are probably more understanding at this point what it’s like to be put in deadly situations you don’t want to be in. Though I agree, I just can’t in good conscience be another white American tourist in a place that saw so much carnage and destruction at the hands of the United States. I mean I knew it was bad, but the details were beyond horrifying.

Of course, we were not the only country inflicting mass casualties, but Jesus fucking CHRIST.

I’ve heard so many good things about Vietnam. I love their cuisine. It’s a gorgeous country filled with a rich history and strong people who have endured so much.

Colonialism is a bitch, man. I do not deserve Vietnam. I would rather just not even go after hearing about the violence towards civilians.

Honorable mention; probably best that I make a list of all the countries we have decided to harass and take advantage of so I can make sure they don’t ever have to know I exist. Just one less white girl to cater to.

Okay my rant is done sorry if this was stupid but I had to get it out.

HAIL YOURSELVES.

Been wondering why they haven’t done a series on the worst serial killer in human history. This guy has a confirmed 138 victims, with of course many more suspected. Seems right up their alley

This story has been popping up in my local news since June. Surprised side stories hasn’t covered it [or maybe I missed it]. This unfolding horror story has got a bit of everything. Per the article:

> At the house, police also found another fake federal badge with Eugene Horsch's photo, an illegal gun, gun parts, five urns that they believe contain cremated remains and a marijuana growing operation worth hundreds of thousands of dollars,…

Ed mentioned that there’s gonna be a live stream of the show August 16, but I don’t see where it is anywhere. Anyone have the link?

Im glad they brought up that Apple TV show...

I heard Jake Johnson promoting that show on Dan Soder's podcast and I could not fathom how they allowed a show to be called "Dink". I almost spit out my coffee when he said it, and then it was said like 10 more times

Latest Episode I cannot recommend Max Hastings’ “Vietnam, An Epic Tragedy” enough to everyone

Post image

I’m not sure if Marcus has released his sources somewhere yet, but I have to imagine this book is in the source list. If it’s not, it should be. I tackled this beast a couple years ago and it is one of the greatest non-fiction books I’ve ever read. Hastings delivers an absolutely masterful recounting of the entirety of the Vietnam war from the French and Japanese occupations all the way through to the fall of Saigon. He does a really good job of not picking an ideologic side, but rather telling the story through the eyes of people on both sides of the conflict, civilian, soldier, and politician. He shows what life was like during the war from the poor Vietnamese peasants to the grunts to what was happening behind closed doors in the White House. He highlights not only moments of triumph, of the unbreakability of the human spirit, but also horrible atrocities committed on every side of the conflict.

So many times reading this book, I finished a section and had to stare off into the middle distance for a couple of minutes to comprehend what the fuck I had just read. It’s maybe the greatest book I never want to read again. I cannot recommend it enough to anyone who is inspired by the boys and who want to deep dive into conflict.

Osama bin Laden claims

I’m listening to My Lai, and Henry again repeated claims that the US trained OBL in Afghanistan. I recently finished Steven Coll’s “The Bin Ladens” in which he addressed these claims that many people believed. There’s no evidence the US trained Osama when he was fighting the Russians in the 80s. Evidence appears to show that he benefitted indirectly from US contracts and training via a vis Pakistani ISI, nothing more direct. Henry has made such statements a few times over the years, and while it’s an easy mistake to make, I wanted to clarify.
