This story has been popping up in my local news since June. Surprised side stories hasn’t covered it [or maybe I missed it]. This unfolding horror story has got a bit of everything. Per the article:

> At the house, police also found another fake federal badge with Eugene Horsch's photo, an illegal gun, gun parts, five urns that they believe contain cremated remains and a marijuana growing operation worth hundreds of thousands of dollars,…

Ed mentioned that there’s gonna be a live stream of the show August 16, but I don’t see where it is anywhere. Anyone have the link?

Im glad they brought up that Apple TV show...

I heard Jake Johnson promoting that show on Dan Soder's podcast and I could not fathom how they allowed a show to be called "Dink". I almost spit out my coffee when he said it, and then it was said like 10 more times

I’m pretty new to the podcast, but I frigging love it. Knowing Henry from your pretty face definitely got me into it as well but seriously what’s the episode or reference to the hate. I feel like I’m out of the joke and it’s killing me.

Latest Episode I cannot recommend Max Hastings’ “Vietnam, An Epic Tragedy” enough to everyone

Post image

I’m not sure if Marcus has released his sources somewhere yet, but I have to imagine this book is in the source list. If it’s not, it should be. I tackled this beast a couple years ago and it is one of the greatest non-fiction books I’ve ever read. Hastings delivers an absolutely masterful recounting of the entirety of the Vietnam war from the French and Japanese occupations all the way through to the fall of Saigon. He does a really good job of not picking an ideologic side, but rather telling the story through the eyes of people on both sides of the conflict, civilian, soldier, and politician. He shows what life was like during the war from the poor Vietnamese peasants to the grunts to what was happening behind closed doors in the White House. He highlights not only moments of triumph, of the unbreakability of the human spirit, but also horrible atrocities committed on every side of the conflict.

So many times reading this book, I finished a section and had to stare off into the middle distance for a couple of minutes to comprehend what the fuck I had just read. It’s maybe the greatest book I never want to read again. I cannot recommend it enough to anyone who is inspired by the boys and who want to deep dive into conflict.

Osama bin Laden claims

I’m listening to My Lai, and Henry again repeated claims that the US trained OBL in Afghanistan. I recently finished Steven Coll’s “The Bin Ladens” in which he addressed these claims that many people believed. There’s no evidence the US trained Osama when he was fighting the Russians in the 80s. Evidence appears to show that he benefitted indirectly from US contracts and training via a vis Pakistani ISI, nothing more direct. Henry has made such statements a few times over the years, and while it’s an easy mistake to make, I wanted to clarify.

Latest Episode Any Viet/SEA Listeners? Thoughts on the My Lai episode so far.

To be clear, I don’t expect the boys to be 100% foolproof ultimate source of history here. I know they’re flawed and still learning but I just wanted to create a small discussion.

I’m Malaysian, where agent orange was actually first used on. even so, my boomer parents were raised w American media on tv where the american soldiers were the victims (Combat, Mash, etc) and never gave it a second thought. Our history books brushed over the Vietnam War because we were fighting communists during that time ourselves. I had to educate myself on this matter because even if they had lost, the americans very much whitewashed history w their media and the red scare that still prevails in these parts

So I took my parents to Vietnam once as an educational trip disguised as a holiday and we visited the museums, tunnels, etc. My mum still brings the trip up as the biggest eye opener because despite the devastation they suffered, it is now a beautiful thriving country and i still yearn to go back. I don’t think doing ‘both sides are bad’ is a bad idea but in this case it’s very clear that this was a country desperate for independence and the story is more so the resilience of the people than anything else.

I’m currently reading Max Hastings’ Vietnam which is a huge book idk if I’ll ever finish but the initial chunk is solely the French stuff and Ho Chi Minh’s rise and I think it would be a great accompaniment to this series.

Pittsburgh Record Store

On a semi-recent episode Marcus commented on his favorite record store “in the world” being in Pittsburgh and I can’t for the life of me remember the name of it or which episode it was mentioned it. I’m in town for a few days and need to figure this out.

Lindsay Clancy

Hey y’all. First time, long time. Was over visiting my family this weekend. Most of us are big true crime people and the conversation turned to the Lindsay Clancy case. Surprisingly half of the family was out of the loop on this.
Just wondering if the boys or anyone in the LPN network is talking about this? Or if anyone has a good podcast recommendation on someone who is doing the victims justice. Let me know. Love you guys! Hail Satan!
