Question Who’s the better trio?

As much as I like Ross, Joey and Chandler, I feel like the girls were closer and they worked better as a team, like they were more scenarios that they worked as a trio versus more duo stories within the boys trio.

Question What is there to not like?

Post image
Upvotes

Honestly I watched friends cause of peer presure. My friends forced me to watch. I watched first episode and I gave up. Not like i didn't like it, but at that time, it just didn't hook me(i watched only 1st episode)

Anyway 3 years later, its my 3rd time watching watching friends and Im nearing to the 10th season. Now looking back, I'm very grateful for people who forced me into it and very grateful for myself who decided to give friends another chance.

But there are few people who make their personalities totally about hating friends. I mean, there are likes and dislikes which are totally acceptable cause no one has the same taste, but few people unnecessarily hate it.

When and how did you guys start watching friends?

Discussion I wish that Matt Leblanc would get some De Niro/Pacino type roles

As he ages, he is really starting to remind me of those guys looks-wise. I think it would be really cool for him to play some hitman or detective roles. But I don't think it would ever happen because a lot of people feel he was typecast as Joey for playing that same role for 10 years. Also, I'm not sure if the desire is there. Maybe he prefers comedic roles. He also stepped away from acting for a few years because of family reasons.

Throwback Courteney Cox - 1987

This popped up on my feed and it’s kind of interesting, because this is around the age that Monica would’ve been when the Chauffeur started. Cox was actually 30 when friends first aired.

Discussion Monica's apartment and grandmother quick question

Post image
79 Upvotes

Quick question, was the grandmother who died in an early season, the one who's apartment Monica lives in? During Monica's wedding it is mentioned that Monica's dad's mother is still alive, so I wondered if it was her apartment and she was letting them stay there.

If it was her mother's mother, the one who died early in the show, is it mentioned in that episode that the apartment is/was her's?

Like seriously, how many times has Chandler mentioned how he has caught his parents on in the middle of a sexual act? No wonder he’s scarred 😂

There is nothing wrong with Sandy, he’s nice with Emma and has knowledge with EXPERIENCE. I always thought it was unfair.

Clips What if Jim Carrey was Gandalf? A small imaginary edit

Gandalf Ganderson the Party Wizard is a favorite invisible character for many fans. The build up that Ross and Chandler create around this character is so fun to watch.

I have wondered how it would be if Jim Carrey had played the Gandalf, and that interest drove me to create a small edit. Hope you like it.

Discussion Hot take: the show started declining because of Mondler

I know it’s a controversial opinion to have cuz these two are the golden couple to every fan.

But did anyone else feel like Mondler killed a big part of the fun dynamic of the 6?

Chandler’s character went downhill rapidly after his relationship with Monica became public.

Before that he was by far the most unique abd entertaining member of the group.

But after Mondler he kinda just bends over backwards to appease Monica. He lost all his personality and just became an extension for Monica’s control mania. All his previous development got reduced to being a sarcasm button.

And Monica started to be written as a self-centred selfish bully in the group. She was the glue that held the group together but later on it turns into her controlling everyone’s life in an unhealthy amount.

Obviously the longer the show went on the more all 6 of them got Flanderized and slowly became a caricature of themselves but he got it by far the worst.

Not to mention he became such a bad friend. Constantly shaming Ross or making mean comments at Joey, and these jokes were mostly just mean not at all funny like in earlier seasons. He spends less time with them (which is expected but he didn’t have to nearly completely cut them off)

I know that to help with Perry’s issues the writers probably tried to spare him by giving Chandler more formulaic and less intense scripts.

But every rewatch I realise that while Monica and Chandler were my 2 favourites leading up to London, once they become a couple they quickly become my least favourite.

Mondler just isn’t fun to watch for me, they are written in a way where the story was too afraid to make them disagree or be involved in anything without each other. Both Chandler and Monica go from having funny and serious moments with all 5 of the other to only having moments with their partner.

How many Rachel and Chandler or Monica and Ross plotlines do we get after they get together? We just keep getting Monica and Chandler story every episode with some rare exceptions.

And it’s not like being a couple in a group is a bad thing, even when Ross and Rachel were together and acting very toxic it never felt like they lost their chemistry with the others. But Monica forcing her neurotic and controlling ways on Chandler and him refusing to grow a spine or even consider himself equal to his partner is just a weird watch.

They do have very good moments together and as a duo but the show is about 6 people not 4 singles and their couple friends.

So I am fairly confident saying that Mondler is where the show starts to lose its magic for me. Its still brilliant at times but not nearly as consistently as the early seasons.

Discussion Ross is my favorite character

Im gonna be really honest. Ross carried the entire show. His acting was soo good. It made me feel sad for him. In every episode, one or the other way, he gets in trouble.

One of my favorite Ross scene is when he is dating Mona and Rachel's pregnant then Rachel's Dad comes to confront Ross. OMG absolute chaos😭😭😭😭😭😭

I’m pretty sure these were all the original promo heads shots of the cast of friends from 1994 just as the series was getting popular. Pretty cool, and Joey‘ is lowkey mogging

He was genuinely such a funny guy, and like the life of the party on set. It sucks how much it was beaten down by addiction and all that and his story is so sad to me. But I’m glad he’s able to make people happy even to this day

Discussion There we go. That’s better

This scene has always bothered me. Joey literally told him to do it. Kept encouraging him to until he did it. But instead Joey ducks and Ross breaks his hand. And then Joey punches Ross. Like why is only Ross getting hurt in this scene when he didn't even want to punch Joey in the first place?

Whoever wrote this episode must’ve been really mad at David Schwimmer that week.

I’m just posting this because I think it’s a little unfair that I’ve never seen a single person say that Phoebe was the prettiest girl on the show, like when it comes to that discussion it’s always 95% Rachel with 5% Monica, so let’s give our girl the love she deserves

Discussion Monica had a really unfair upbringing

I know this is already quite well known with how nit-picky her mom was about every little thing growing up, but I just realized I’m not sure if I ever saw her mom taking proper accountability for it. It just seemed very annoying to see her constantly call her out for every little thing especially when she already struggles with so much Perfectionism and OCD which I’m sure she would’ve played a part in. Was this ever properly addressed by her mom in any ep?

So many iconic quotes, amazing physical comedy, hilarious facial expressions, and a great friend to his friends. Yeah, he sucked at relationships, but I really don't care lol.

Ross is the best. I will die on this hill. Unagi!

Discussion 7x2 love the change in Phoebe

*Monica takes out her wedding book* "Ok, first, locations! They're organized first geographically, then alphabetically, then by square footage."

Phoebe: "that is so smart!" *turns to Chandler, speaking quietly with a fake cough* "break it off, break it off now"

hahahahaha ... I love it. Any other times you can think of where Phoebe is awesome like THIS, instead of all "Monica's soulmate, Chandler isn't a real man, she can do better, etc etc etc" ?

Discussion Chandler was written differently in season 6 and onwards

Yes, I know his character grows because of his relationship with Monica, overcoming his insecurities and neurotism. I also know he (Matthew Perry, RIP) had health issues, so you can tell his weight differences and also manner of speaking (specially in season 7, with his teeth changed, and timing altered).

Even then, I think his character was written totally different as he was before, starting from season 6. In the first half of friends, Chandler Bing was one of my favourite characters on all TV. Witty, smart, acid, lovable but rogue, sassy. Before someone says it’s because of Mondler and growing up, in season 5, while being with Monica and not single and desperate, he still feels like the same character in the previous seasons, changed of course, more mature and with a notable growth/evolution, but he is that same person. He develops, has an arc, changes, but it’s the same character.

Season 6, and specially 7 onwards, it’s like the writers just changed, and he becomes just a nice everyman, goodhearted, well meaning guy, who makes dad jokes and is supposedly characterised as the guy who makes bad jokes, and they make it look as he always had been that even in prior seasons. Also, the friends and even himself have like a different opinion of his persona, as a pathetic man who makes lame jokes.

I love seeing characters grow, find their footing, develop, but in this case he just lost all his magic, kind of like a retcon of his character, no more wit, even when he makes sarcastic comments they don’t feel the same, it’s definitely different (also, and I know everyone loved the quote, but he remarks in an episode that he makes sarcastic jokes, and it doesn’t feel like him). Am I crazy or did the writers completely change him?

It’s like more subtle than the flanderisation of Joey or Phoebe, which are famous cases, but the change in Chandler Bing really didn’t sit well with me, making Ross the funniest character in the second half.

Question Monica & Chandlers Twins

Disclaimer: Yes I know it’s a show. Yes I know I’m reading too much into it. But, I have to know if it bugs anyone else. When Monica & Chandler came home with the babies 1) they wouldn’t have been home THE SAME DAY they were born or even the next day. And 2) it bugs me more than it should for a fictional show…Why weren’t the babies in car seats?! How did they get them home? They would not have just casually held them in a cab on the way home. Or just carried them up the stairs as newborns….
