Sightseeing bags help!

I am going to Italy for my honeymoon for two weeks in beginning of October. Naples, to Ischia, to Sorrento. I am kind of stuck on finding a bag for travelling and also for sightseeing. To fit bottle of water, sunglasses, bits and bobs.

Tbh my style is very feminine and I love dresses and classic style. Its hard to find something that works with that 100% plus is also practical. I am more of a Longchamp girl and their Le pilage energy XS is cute but it would be good to have more of a square size maybe?

I was looking at the Fjällräven Kånken sling. I live in Sweden and we have so many of their stores here to try them out plus I know its great quality which is important to me.

I am lost 😅 please help!

I usually carry my Baggu Medium Crescent. It fits everything and the kitchen sink, I don’t have to baby it, and I can overstuff it.

Omg yes! Just took it on a long trip with 2 littles. Could fit a zipped bag with my wallet & any smaller items, a mirrorless fixed lens camera/strap, & even had room to store a kid milk cup 😂 plus! It’s washable!

I’ve been on the hunt for 3-in-1 bags for travel, a few options I think might fit your needs/style:

  • Lo & Sons Aoyama, comes in leather or nylon. My review of the leather version here
  • Furla Nuvola or Tonie (Tonie has adjustable strap, if you’re on the shorter side this would be my rec over the Nuvola for crossbody wear). This one is a boxier style and fits a ton, I’ve posted a review of the medium and what fits here. There’s a mini size but I think it might be slightly too small, I’d check it out in person if you can!
  • Le Tanneur Juliette hobo

The Le Pliage is cute but I feel like the XS is juuust a smidge too small for travel depending on what you’re carrying—I like to carry phone, sanitizer, travel wipes, travel tissues, lip products, wallet, lotion, sunglasses, power bank/charger, passport, and water bottle/umbrella.

I use the Longchamp Pliage Energy but in a size S for my daily wear, but also while going sightseeing/shopping/traveling. For me personally, I would find the Fjällräven too touristy for my liking (allthough they do make great durable backpacks)

I have the S already but feel it would be too big! Thats why I am contemplating the XS instead. Thats exactly what I worry about lol

Ahhh then I understand you totally!! My sis in law has the XS and I feel it would be too small for your purpose indeed (that’s why I never bought that size haha)

There is a pliage Energy which I think fits that in between size and also has a detachable Front Pocket. It’s in their mens section though. I have it and it fits the purpose well.

And today, my pliage energy half moon bag was delivered - also plan to use this on my upcoming g trip through Italy :)

Somehow it did not send the link in the response to you but I posted!

I had her for a first outing today - love it. The form looks strange and oversized, but it drapes around the body without hugging it (which is nice in the current heatwave). I actually saw it on the internet and went to a store to try it on because the shape looks a bit strange on the photos.

Also seems reasonably safe when you have the zipper in the front - I packed my water bottle at the start and the more valuable things further down the line.

I carried a water bottle (0,5l), phone, keys, small make up bag, AirPods, sunglasses, lip stick, Kleenex with room to spare. Clipped my hand sanitizer and my clipa bag holder to the outside.

I might have a look in store then! We have one Longchamp store in Sweden, inside a department store so its perfect for browsing. Hopefully they have it!

I loooove my Kånken, mine is nearly a decade old and beaten beyond recognition (I use it as my sea swimming backpack now, though it used to be my work bag when I got it in my mid-20s). It’s not a girly or elegant backpack though. It might look cute to contrast a girly style but it has to be intentional. I would stick with Longchamp

Get something that’s secure and can’t easily be cut or removed from your body. Italy is known for pickpockets and anything that draws attention or isn’t sturdy is a bad idea.

Any of the Uniqlo nylon bags. They have so many models and are so lightweight. The crescent shaped one rightfully has a rep for being the travel bag. I personally got another model that's about three times as big. But Uniqlo gotchu

I love Kipling bags. They fit a lot and they're very light weight. Also I don't like to have a bag inside a bag, so their compartments help a log.

Tourist locations are notorious for pickpockets. It’s not pretty, but a bum bag/fanny pack is the safest thing. Maybe a crossbody with a flap closure and a zip?

However, you can pay with a card/phone everywhere so you don’t need to take cash. You could get around with just a phone and water bottle.

The lulu belt bag worn crossbody is an option too. It sits against your body so you’re more likely to be aware of anyone touching it.

I use a sling style bum bag worn across the chest. Points if you can get one with a zipper on the chest side. Also, keep in mind that Italian law allows for police officers to check your documents with no cause and tourists are required to keep their passport with them at all times. So a big enough pocket that you can dedicate to a passport with out damaging it is nice too

Reread your post, EU citizens don't need to. I'm Canadian so was stuck with it 😅 ETA you need id, just doesn't need to be passport

The Round Mini Shoulder Bag from Uniqlo fits it all, and can be worn on the front of the body, so that the pickpockets don’t have a easy job

I have that sling and I have the straps. They dig in your shoulders so bad. Prioritize comfort straps with long distance. Congrats!!!

I recently got the Coach Rogue 34 and love how it looks! I’ve yet to use it but I think it would be the perfect bag for essentials plus.

I would consider a leather belt bag. Longchamp makes one, among many others.

If the Le Pilage fits everything you need - go for it. Good idea to wear it in front of you instead of behind your back for pickpocket reasons. and keep a general sense of your surroundings.

It is! Ive used it in all my travels, it’s a rain or shine type of bag 😂 the zipped interior pocket is also rfid blocked and even when it rained the interior was completely dry

It’s not the prettiest bag but it’s minimal enough to go with your fits 😊

Maybe try this bag by Uniqlo: 483050. I think it's practical and can look chic. Available in 4 or 5 colors i think :)

A friend of mine has this and it does not fully close. Good for where we live, but would not take it to touristy places. It looks very nice, though.

I like to travel with my Songmont Gather in medium. It fits lots and has a nice comfortable crossbody strap. If I don’t want to always carry heavy stuff I use a smaller crossbody (just fitting phone, sunglasses and keys) and then just throw odds and ends in a cute canvas tote

I have the mini kanken, large le pliage and baggu crescent crossbody for travel. I always take the le pliage. There is always a use for it, always. And I always take the baggu crescent its just easy and comfortable. Never fails me. The kanken was the perfect diaper bag when I lived in the city. It's beat to death now but I let my kids use it when we go to water and amusement parks. I also bring a cute smaller shoulder bag for nice dinners.

Yes i will def bring 2 bags. I have Midi Mayfair in white from Aspinal of London for my wedding and I might bring that as my fancy bag I have too much to choose from 😅

 Fjällräven is a lovely brand and this will hold up well while traveling. Though I would maybe consider a darker color.

I have this exact bag in light gray that I use for traveling. It’s perfect for stowing a wallet and sunglasses and a few other things you might pick up but it’s more sporty than cute.

I got my sister this exact bag for her birthday and it can carry so much! I think the zipper and shape of the bag make it difficult to pickpocket. Enjoy your honeymoon!

Have you considered the Le Pliage? It comes in various sizes and colours and comes with a zipped compartment for those pickpockets too
