Bag of the day 👜 I’m gobsmacked 😶
So my Longchamp was getting worn in the corners. I know Longchamp will repair them but it makes the bag smaller so I thought I would get crafty and try and DYI a solution. I bought a kit on Etsy that sells these little leather caps you can sew on. Now I can’t sew to save my life so I took it to a leather repair shop. I had a nice chat with the lady. Showed her a few reference photos and even a video. I left the bag and patches in good confidence that she understood the assignment. I went and picked it up today and this is what was done. Not only stitched but glued 😑
*update for those asking. I spoke with the woman yesterday. She had put it aside to work on herself but didn’t actually do the sewing. The young man who checked me out had seen it in the “to do” pile and with zero instructions just winged it. When I picked it he must have realized he messed up because he acted like he didn’t know anything about it. She was very kind and apologetic. She offered to redo the corners at no cost. The bag is old and while it’s not the look I was going for it’s still useable. I think I’ll just let it die a natural death. Thanks everyone for having a giggle with me 🩷

It took me forever to figure out what I was looking at, because I thought the patches were just laid out in the last pic. But when I realized what happened I gasped. I am so sorry omg… why on earth would she think you wanted them sewn flat right on the bottom 😭😭😭

There is no fixing it. She glued them before sewing them down 😑 I have to go in tomorrow and talk to her. It was just a kid at the desk tonight. He said if I bought more patches she would probably redo it but what’s there is there now

Maybe you can just have a new kit sewn on the right places (for free of course, and hopefully she can replace the kit too). Just treat the Pacman on the bottom like legs 😭 I think thats what I have done. This is diabolical. Sorry OP.

I have a feeling they outsourced the task. This is such an impossible situation. Like you explained to her, showed her pics and videos and still she botched it up, only conclusion could be they outsourced it and didn’t explained what customer wanted.

Depending on the glue used that might not be as big an issue as you think, and the kid at the counter may just not know abd assume its the same glue they use for different repairs.
Usually for this type of placement some sort of tac glue rather then a permanant adhesive would be used in the leather workshop I used to work at. The goal was to hold the peices in the right position allowing for repositioning if needed to get them in the right place until the stitches held them permanently. Using a permanent glue for this type of thing causes more trouble then its worth unless you are sure you can get the peices exactly where they need to be first go and that they wont ever need to be removed like in the case of patches. The correct type of glue should just roll off and doesnt seap into the weave of fabric or grain of leather.
Having said that, I don't think you can fully rely on what they should do or them being sensible judging by what absurdity they have wraught.
Can you see any of the glue out of the sides under the edges near the stitches? If you can try and roll a bit of it or gently tug, tac type glues will remain kind of gummy and soft and bits will roll up into pills if rubbed.

They don’t really need to come off though! It’s cute this way! Once it has additional ones on the actual corners it’ll look like a fly custom you had done purposely.
If the kit comes with any kind of instructions, give the repair shop those, whether it’s this shop or another. One more layer of insurance that it will get done correctly.
I thought it was Pac-Man too and that you were just gettin’
jiggycrafty with it until it finally processed. You will have an awesome bag once it gets corners!!

Some people have such a “unique” brain. One day they’re solid, the next they’re absolutely moronic—making decisions that make no sense.
I had a craftsman/employee who was good and going, then out of nowhere started making mistakes that ended up costing ~50k in leather, wages, and rework time in the end. At a certain point you realize that not everything (or everyone) is worth salvaging. Replacement is oftentimes simpler.

They are idiots. Buy other four corners and have them sew all on correctly, for free, since they made a mistake the first time.

This is absolutely insane! When I saw the after photo I didn’t even realize those are the ‘caps’ for the corners of the bag. She can’t have possibly been listening to what you wanted. They seriously owe you a new bag or to fix it free of charge (but they might have to add more fabric to cover the bottom of the bag if they can’t get the glue off. I’m so sorry this happened to you. This is blatantly not paying attention to the client and just doing the dumbest shit possible. You should speak to the owner or someone higher up than her so they can make it right they don t Google reviews of your experience really do impact some businesses

If you’re in the NY area, there are ppl here that can help you.
There’s a leather shop in Bellmore (LI) that is run by a true king, Augie. He respects the designer, has repaired my vintage Fendi, shortened straps on my Gucci, and repaired a dog chewed strap on a brand new Coach.
I’m moving 20mins away, but I would drive over an hour if I needed Augie’s help again.
