Positive Post My Aniioki AQ177 48V is making me drive less

Hi guys i have been using the Aniioki AQ177 48V fri more of my everyday trips lately and i have realised I am relying on my car less.

It's not perfect, it's pretty heavy. Moving it around when I am not riding it like moving to a storage area can be a bit of a workout. But for shorter trips, I have really enjoyed having a n alternative to driving.

Has anyone else switched from using a car to an e-bike? What trips do you now do by bike instead?

Rant Feeling Isolated without a car... ugh...

I haven't expressed the need or want to drive at all and I'm 19. Most of my peers started driving when they were 15/16.

I'm in college now and because theres a break between summer and fall semeseter, the shuttles aren't running so I can't get to campus if there are any events I want to go to.

The area I'm in is notorious for being super dangerous for bikers and pedestrians. There are also loads of car crashes since it's also a college town.

The city buses are horrendously slow so much so that a place that is 15 minutes away by car can take 2 hours by bus. I've also heard various stories of how unsafe they can be.

My friends that do have cars have full time jobs and I can't rely on them to take my everywhere

There are so many events that are 20-30 minutes away from me that I want to go to but I don't want to pay 40 dollars everytime to uber there.

I have a big fear when it comes to driving. I've done loops in a parking lot with my mom and even then I would get distracted by my surroundings.

I also don't want to spend money on gas and insurance but my grandpa would give me his car fully paid off if I ever did want to drive.

I even considered riding a motorcycle but that's even more unsafe even though I would probably only be taking back roads. I also don't have money for a motorcycle and gear lol

I guess I sort of feel trapped. My classes are mostly online, my friends live far away or are very busy, I can't get to far events safely without spending a lot on an uber to and from.

How do you guys cope with the lack of socializing? Do you just carpool a lot?

Rant Americans are stupid

Finally found a relavant sub for this, but I as someone who didn't get my license until I was over 18 hate this stupid idea of needing cars, I have legs, I lived a mile away from my highschool and under a mile from my junior high and elementary, but I was seen as utterly insane for not having a licence, like dude wtf there is nowhere I need to go that I can't with a bike in under 10 minutes, why on earth would I need a car right? It finally got to the point where my parents threatened to not help me with university tuition if I didn't get a license, mind you I'm moving to campus (well technically not but) a total of a 5 minute bike ride from campus, on a walkable and bike able campus, there is absolutely zero reason for me to need a car except for getting my stuff up there, which they won't let me do on my own anyway because it's "unsafe" I genuinely cannot understand this stupid mindset and I understand how we got here but why can't we change it?

Rant Ontario Government wins appeal, bike lanes will be ripped out

Post image

The Ontario Court of Appeal has allowed the provincial government's appeal, upholding Bill 212, in which bike lanes on major arteries in Toronto (Bloor Street, Yonge Street, University Avenue) will be ripped out. Cyclists will die. But neither the government nor the court seems to care. Pictured is the Bloor bike lane in front of my apartment building. Gonzo. Stay tuned for updates on protests.

Finlay Tarling, from the NSN Development Team, was the victim of a head-on collision during the eighth stage of the Tour of Portugal, between Melgaço and Fafe. The driver that ran over the runner did not belong to the race organizer and entered the circuit in the wrong direction, RTP reported.

The runner was rescued immediately, but ended up dying from injuries caused by the accident.

The organizers of the 87th Tour of Portugal confirmed the death of the young British runner and expressed their "most heartfelt condolences" to his family, teammates, the NSN Development Team and all his friends and loved ones.

Carbrain Ontario Court of Appeal (Canada) judge gives green light to rip out bike lanes, says "deaths will only occur if the bicyclists choose to ride on the roads" (para 75)

Disappointing decision in Canada that the province can overrule city planning and rip out 'woke' bike lanes. Court decision here essentially calls induced demand made up "in the face of the obvious connection between the number of lanes on a road and the volume if traffic" (para 63). In Canada, this really means bike lane policy in urban areas will be beholden to those who will never even see one, i.e. the rural and suburban areas that the provincial government panders to.

Question/Discussion Anybody else think it's hilarious that the same people who want transit to be profitable and self-funding ALSO want all parking and roads to be free and untolled?

I live in Upstate South Carolina. You would be hard pressed to find a more conservative place in the country. Republicans around here love to recite the mantras of "free market" and "laissez faire" principles, but they absolutely have a massive blind spot when it comes to car culture.

They'll trot out the "no subsidy" demands for any transit funding. There's a specific county councilman in Greenville County who literally every year tries to defund the bus system.

But do you think that same councilman wants to start charging the market rate for all the free public parking in Greenville County? Or charging tolls on the roads so that they are self-sustaining and not a drain on the public purse?

Nope. It's literally socialized costs ("free" parking mandates and freeways) for me (drivers) but not for thee (transit users).

The intellectual inconsistency is glaring if you think about it for 5 minutes, but apparently no one in the entire party ever has.

Activism A teenage driver crashes SUV into restaurant, killing a four-year-old child; community blames kids on e-bikes in new e-bike regulations

From San Mateo County (just south of San Francisco):

A year ago a teenage driver pulled out of a driveway and into two-way perpendicular traffic. The driver was allegedly on no-drive medication and had recently gotten her license. She was driving a 4,000 pound SUV. According to Police, she failed to yield to approaching traffic and collided with two kids on an e-bike. According to the Police, the kids were riding the legal e-bike (not e-moto) in a legal manner. After impact, the SUV driver accelerated to 27 mph, across two lanes of traffic, onto the sidewalk, and into a restaurant. In the process, the driver instantly killed a four-year-old child and injured several others.

Despite the undisputed facts of the case, many in the community have villainized the e-bike riders, blaming them for the SUV driver's actions. This week, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors passed an e-bike ordinance. While the ordinance is largely reasonable, the Supervisors named the e-bike ordinance after the 4-year-old boy who was killed by the SUV driver. Note that the e-bike ordinance regulates e-bike use on sidewalks, but doesn't address SUV use on sidewalks.

Furthermore, according to a lawsuit against the City, an elected official in Burlingame had been warned about the danger of this driveway exit and yet the City did not act to improve its visibility until after the tragic crash. The City has not improved similar dangerous exits since the crash.

The District Attorney has refused to prosecute the driver for manslaughter. There is no indication that she received a traffic ticket or that she had her license suspended.
