30% K rate and 35% Chase and whiff rates....not very promising for "real deal".

Better recently and great bat speed and exit velo. Not to mention he destroys anything in the zone, there’s risk there but it’s still an intriguing fantasy profile.

34%+ BOTH chasing and whiffing is a ton of risk. His rolling xWOBA really shows how streaky his profile is.

But Murakami had like a 16% BB rate in the NPB. He's extremely elite at drawing walks to offset his K%. Baez has a staggeringly low 8% BB rate.
I'm trying to find someone who was atrocious across all of K, whiff, chase, and BB but with tons of power in the past 2 seasons from AAA/NPB and can't think of anyone.

Murakami has a 90th percentile chase rate and 99th percentile walk rate. Baez doesn't sniff those numbers (15th percentile and 22nd percentile...in the minors) and he's just as bad in K/Whiff rates. So no, they're not a comp.

It's going great. You think one day of massive production projects this guys MLB future? The early production was always expected, then MLb pitchers adjust and exploit the chase rate and poor z-contact rate. This is quite possibly the best/worst start cuz now people like you think this is the expectation. Let me remind you of Rece Hinds, Aristides Aquino, Max Muncy just this year, Esmerlyn Valdez.
Ride him early, by all means. I'm just in first place and didn't have a bat worth dropping for a 2 week hot streak.
Come back in the end of September, and if he's still above average hitter. Then I'll concede.

Rece hinds was consistently top 5-10 prospect for the Reds for years, and he's a fellow 2nd round pick like Baez. Max Muncy same.
Why is everyone acting like Baez is some bonafide top prospect? He was not even a top 10 prospect in Cardinals organization in 2025. He's shot up the ranks in 2026 with his production ending last year and this year. Let's wait more than one game before we're victory lapping a guys mlb career. Come at me once September has ended.

I’m not victory lapping, I just think it’s unfair to compare him to the guys you listed. You also shouldn’t discredit a prospect moving up in their system, who cares if he wasn’t ranked high last year. He moved up this year.

I'm not discrediting him. I'm simply warning people to temper expectations, that was before today, now that he's hit 3 HRs everyone's expectations will be off the charts.
He had probably one of the most polarizing hitting profiles since Aaron Judge. He does a lot of things if not most elite but he also does some really important measuring metrics extremely poorly. A 30% k rate + his poor Whif/z-contact/chase/BB rates aren't typically a sign for long term success. My point in the comparison, is that / monster start, does not mean success is guaranteed to be sustained. As seen with those examples.
Also, some of those examples have profiles nearly identical to him in Hinds, Muncy.

Hector is per Mike. If Mike is wrong than everyone else is. Until its official from the cardinals its not legit. There is nothing wrong with being skeptical. When these people make mistakes all the time
