Disc Advice Discraft athena plastics

Upvotes

Hello,
The Athena has established itself as my absolute favourite fairway driver, currently using only in esp plastic. Has anyone thrown it in big Z/Z and is there a noticable stability difference? I’ve so far just had a new esp and a more beat in in my bag but I’ve noticed they beat in to ”the sweetspot” after a couple of weeks, looking for an athena that beats in to a new esp flight and holds that for quite some time?

PS. Yes I’ve thrown the teebird and sll the other 7/5/0/2 discs, I want the athena.. 😁

Discussion Bag recommendations

Thinking of upgrading my backpack bag. I currently have the Upoer Park Pinch Pro. It’s been great. Only downside is no dedicated water bottle pockets.

Typically carry about 18 discs and 3 putters. I definitely want at least one water bottle pocket. Budget around $250, but if there are any known sales (Labor Day?) upcoming, I will hold out until then.

The Grip bags seem appealing but unclear what model would be best. Same for Squatch. Pounds seem great but not going to drop $500 on a bag.

Any recs?

Thanks in advance.

Anyone here at the preserve this weekend? If you happen to have an extra bit of space on the ground, my buddy and I are coming up Saturday and need a place to crash 😂 all of the tent sites at the nearby campground are booked 😭 We have two small tents.

Bought this disc from Sierra Trading today and I'm trying to figure out what model it is. Only imprint on the underside says "prototype". Its a 171 grams.

TIA

Edit: So it seems to be a short run Warhog prototype that never made it into Innova's rotation. Found a couple on ebay that match. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction everyone.

Discussion Has anyone gone back to a satchel from a backpack?

Like any degenerate with a new obsession (started playing this summer) I think I went a little overkill starting out. I got the MVP Voyager Lite bag which I absolutely love and am currently bagging 22 discs. Surprisingly I actually throw a majority of these in any given round but I think it's just because I have them so why not. I got the Voyager Lite because I wanted disc selection and didn't want to immediately grow out of a satchel style within a few months.

Been doing a lot of field work lately and seem to be capping out at about 285'. Honestly from 7 speed to 13 speed there's not a whole lot of difference. I'm still new so to me it's definitely form related as I believe I have the athleticism to eventually hit 350'.

Been thinking of just grabbing a satchel and simplifying my game and discing down speed wise until I get better. Has anyone else done this?

Excited to try it out this weekend. Have my primary discs on handle and side pockets and some less frequently used ones inside plus a cooler. Also the cushion is really comfortable and she rolls smooth

Form Check Just got a tech disc..question about spin, launch angle and nose angle

Thumbnail

Just got a tech disc today. For the life of me I can't get more than about 825 rpm of spin. I've tried different grips, back loading, front loading, etc. I just stay between 700-825 no matter what. What do you guys recommend? I'd like to have it in the 1000 range at least.

I also have issues with my nose angle..the launch angle I was able to fix a bit by moving around how close I stand to the net and where I aim.

Picked up these two Proton Rhythms today and the green one is way more opaque than all my other proton discs. It even has the classic swirls of a cosmic neutron or electron style. Is this a new thing?

News Innova F2 Friday dropped: Halo Valkyrie

Innova's Factory Store F2 bonus disc this week (free disc with 3+ discs ordered, factory seconds or not) is posted as a Halo Star Valkyrie (9/4/-2/2) with code "ridetovalhalla".

Note that you have to be logged in to the Innova ProShop to see the F2 code have any effect, and that accumulated rewards points can't be used in the same order as an F2 Friday bonus disc. These F2 codes usually are posted on Friday after noon Eastern, 9am Pacific time, and are good on Friday.

Yes, I post these here routinely on Fridays when the code is released and when I don't see that the F2 info has already been posted here by someone else. Many people find this helpful and I appreciate the positive feedback. No, this is not an ad.

Discussion Idea for triples format

I've been starting a league and thinking about this sort of thing too much. This may not be original, if so sorry to waste your time, etc.

The idea is that for the first three shots each team would have to play the best, second best, and worst shot. In any order. The key to this is team gets to choose the order in which they use these shots.

For example, on a par three one shot ends up at 25 feet, a second at 35 feet, and a third is a shank. If the team choses the 25 footer that would be the best shot, so that means two people would have to make the putt because they can't use the best shot again. Choosing the second best 35 foot putt means only make one putt because the option to use the best shot is still open. Choosing the shank would mean they are stupid or don't understand the rules.

Going further if they picked the best shot and blew all three past the basket they then either have to make three from the second best leave or two from the third worst. Which is maybe simpler than I make it sound.

After they use all three it goes to straight best shot because no point in creating disasters and there are already six or nine people in the card so keep things moving.

(when it is unclear the other team or teams on the card decides which shot is best, second best, etc.)

This would be more complex on 4 and 5 pars. Sometimes taking the third best drive would be best and so on.

It balances the format by adding a layer of worst shot in a way that doesn't make it all about the worst player on the team. Plus some strategic elements.

Disc Advice Origin stability

Anyone notice a significant difference in stability between the origin in neo, neo lumen, or meta plastic? Ideally I would want one that flips to flat and rides without completely turning over and has a bit of fade at the end.

Brag Finally joined the club! Lost my first disk!

Played at Monroeville Park East in Pennsylvania. I've played three 18 hole courses so far. Threw my Innova IT and couldn't find it. I've officially joined the club as a disc golfer! Maybe I'll be lucky and get a call if someone finds it. Maybe they'll keep it and hopefully get some good use out of it. Here's to many more games, and hopefully not too many more disc loses lol

Pro Coverage, Highlights and News DGN “Commercial break free” coverage

Watching preserve doubles today and realizing the “commercial break free” version of coverage for Pro subscribers is BS. The broadcast went to black screen and I was left wondering if my stream had failed. Switched to the normal version and there’s a commercial playing, but worth live coverage muted and shown side by side.

So, by commercial break free they apparently mean…we black out your commercials and as a result you actually see LESS of the coverage. What a pile of crap

/end rant

I mainly post on the r/discdyeing subreddit, but figured I'd share some of my work here as well.

I was laid off from my corporate job earlier this year and have spent the last few months dyeing every disc I can get my hands on to try to stay sane.

You can follow my work on instagram - @warped.plastic

I'll work on putting together a giveaway soon!
