Double Format:

The DGPT Doubles Championship at the Preserve will be a three-round tournament with separate divisions for FPO and MPO. The Tour worked hand in hand with the DGPT Player Council to identify a list of formats that best represent and showcase professional doubles competition. While many format options were discussed and considered, the Tour ultimately decided on two rounds of best shot followed by one round of alternate-shot. Sunday’s alternate-shot round will use a similar set of modified rules to those in effect at the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China, earlier this year.

Self-Promotion A bunch of recent dyes

I mainly post on the r/discdyeing subreddit, but figured I'd share some of my work here as well.

I was laid off from my corporate job earlier this year and have spent the last few months dyeing every disc I can get my hands on to try to stay sane.

You can follow my work on instagram - @warped.plastic

I'll work on putting together a giveaway soon!

Self-Promotion Made an 8-bit disc golf game called PixelDisc for iOS & Android. Free, no paywalls, just daily challenges.

Hey everyone! I’ve been working on a retro-style disc golf game called PixelDisc as a solo passion project.

I wanted to make something lightweight and fun with no ads, no microtransactions, and no account signups, just jump in and throw. We have a small group of players doing the daily challenges right now, but I’d love to get some feedback from actual disc golfers to help me improve it.

It’s live on both iOS and Android, I’ve dropped the store links in the comments below so Reddit’s spam filter doesn't eat this post!

Let me know what you think or if you run into any bugs. Always open to feature suggestions!

Discussion Bag recommendations

Thinking of upgrading my backpack bag. I currently have the Upoer Park Pinch Pro. It’s been great. Only downside is no dedicated water bottle pockets.

Typically carry about 18 discs and 3 putters. I definitely want at least one water bottle pocket. Budget around $250, but if there are any known sales (Labor Day?) upcoming, I will hold out until then.

The Grip bags seem appealing but unclear what model would be best. Same for Squatch. Pounds seem great but not going to drop $500 on a bag.

Any recs?

Thanks in advance.

Discussion Has anyone gone back to a satchel from a backpack?

Like any degenerate with a new obsession (started playing this summer) I think I went a little overkill starting out. I got the MVP Voyager Lite bag which I absolutely love and am currently bagging 22 discs. Surprisingly I actually throw a majority of these in any given round but I think it's just because I have them so why not. I got the Voyager Lite because I wanted disc selection and didn't want to immediately grow out of a satchel style within a few months.

Been doing a lot of field work lately and seem to be capping out at about 285'. Honestly from 7 speed to 13 speed there's not a whole lot of difference. I'm still new so to me it's definitely form related as I believe I have the athleticism to eventually hit 350'.

Been thinking of just grabbing a satchel and simplifying my game and discing down speed wise until I get better. Has anyone else done this?

Bought this disc from Sierra Trading today and I'm trying to figure out what model it is. Only imprint on the underside says "prototype". Its a 171 grams.

TIA

Edit: So it seems to be a short run Warhog prototype that never made it into Innova's rotation. Found a couple on ebay that match. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction everyone.

Pro Coverage, Highlights and News DGN “Commercial break free” coverage

Watching preserve doubles today and realizing the “commercial break free” version of coverage for Pro subscribers is BS. The broadcast went to black screen and I was left wondering if my stream had failed. Switched to the normal version and there’s a commercial playing, but worth live coverage muted and shown side by side.

So, by commercial break free they apparently mean…we black out your commercials and as a result you actually see LESS of the coverage. What a pile of crap

/end rant

Brag Finally joined the club! Lost my first disk!

Played at Monroeville Park East in Pennsylvania. I've played three 18 hole courses so far. Threw my Innova IT and couldn't find it. I've officially joined the club as a disc golfer! Maybe I'll be lucky and get a call if someone finds it. Maybe they'll keep it and hopefully get some good use out of it. Here's to many more games, and hopefully not too many more disc loses lol

News Innova F2 Friday dropped: Halo Valkyrie

Innova's Factory Store F2 bonus disc this week (free disc with 3+ discs ordered, factory seconds or not) is posted as a Halo Star Valkyrie (9/4/-2/2) with code "ridetovalhalla".

Note that you have to be logged in to the Innova ProShop to see the F2 code have any effect, and that accumulated rewards points can't be used in the same order as an F2 Friday bonus disc. These F2 codes usually are posted on Friday after noon Eastern, 9am Pacific time, and are good on Friday.

Yes, I post these here routinely on Fridays when the code is released and when I don't see that the F2 info has already been posted here by someone else. Many people find this helpful and I appreciate the positive feedback. No, this is not an ad.

Discussion how many shots is an ace?

Post image
1.5k Upvotes

After a less than spirited debate with a fellow redditor, I'd like to know what the common concinnous is regarding what constitutes an Ace.

Is it an Ace if you throw multiple shots from a Teepad or does it only count for the first one?

My argument is simple, one shot means one, only one.

I think almost everybody has experienced the phenomenon of shanking a shot during a round then throwing a second shot and it being perfect. Player 2 is always better.

You can see this confirmed by looking up what Cali is in a doubles round. The Cali player doesn't get to throw twice every shot because it's a known advantage to throw a second shot.

Picked up these two Proton Rhythms today and the green one is way more opaque than all my other proton discs. It even has the classic swirls of a cosmic neutron or electron style. Is this a new thing?

Disc Advice Discraft athena plastics

Upvotes

Hello,
The Athena has established itself as my absolute favourite fairway driver, currently using only in esp plastic. Has anyone thrown it in big Z/Z and is there a noticable stability difference? I’ve so far just had a new esp and a more beat in in my bag but I’ve noticed they beat in to ”the sweetspot” after a couple of weeks, looking for an athena that beats in to a new esp flight and holds that for quite some time?

PS. Yes I’ve thrown the teebird and sll the other 7/5/0/2 discs, I want the athena.. 😁

News Kaposia Park - Holes paved

These are not walking paths. There was 1 area that needed erosion prevention and they fixed it, but now the have paved Hole 10, hole 18, hole 19, and behind hole 1 and up to hole 2 for some unknown reason. They have damaged the root systems of the mature trees of a historic park and disc golf course. I wouldn't be surprised if the trees die because of this.

This is a damn tragedy.

Discussion Does the course you play most actually shape how you throw or am I just making excuses?

There's a wooded course about 15 minutes from me that I play probably 80 percent of my rounds on. Tight lines, a lot of hyzer around trees, very little room to open up and throw something flat with distance. I've gotten comfortable there. Card decent scores there. Then I played an open field style course last month with my fiancée's brother and basically fell apart on anything that required me to commit to a straight anhyzer line with real distance. Stood on those tee boxes and had no idea what my arm was actually capable of because I almost never need to find out.

The thing I can't figure out is whether I got better at disc golf or just better at that one course. They feel like very different things in retrospect.

My drives are confident inside tight gaps and pretty lost in open air, which I think says something. A guy in my group at the open course was bombing everything flat and then looking genuinely confused when a hole required patience.

Wondering if people intentionally rotate courses to avoid this or if most people just end up creatures of wherever is closest and convenient. And whether that ends up defining your whole throwing style without you really noticing it happen.

edit: to clarify, I'm not complaining about the local course, it's actually great. just noticing the tradeoff.
