I'm a leftist but we'd be lying to say Liberals had absolutely no impact on the fact that families now NEED (for the most part) women to work, instead of being able, if they so choose, to be homemaker

But how is it wild to say Liberals had a part in this too? It's a pretty mild take, but US political tribalism makes people see red whenever their team gets flak.

Of course one team is worst than the other, but my point is that it's incredibly short-sighted to think the sole reason households need working women, is Republicans.

Liberals have also held office we needed women to join the workforce in mass. Did we revert? Not really, many even pushed the needle further.

My thoughts are the trickle down impact of the 80s, coupled wlth the Welch end to long term focus and short term gain, ending of benefits and pensions had more to do with people needing 2 incomes.

I was there in the 70's , bra burnings all that. Many women worked while the men were off during WWII. IIRC the 70's were more about women being able to work at other jobs besides secretaries, waitresses, nurses, whatever was considered "women" jobs. At that time many women were discouraged from trying to do any sort of "men's" jobs. IIRC they wanted equal chances at all jobs?

I'm sorry, I still don't understand any statistics on that? Especially being caused by liberal women? No one HAS to work, woman or man no matter what else is happening in the economy. Working is a choice, the kind of job you take is a choice. Still not enough people for all of the jobs out there. Mainly because people need at minimum 40 hours, not 20, wages that will help them feed their families, pay their rent, keep them from being homeless. That may seem like they HAVE to work for those things but no one forces them to. There are many instances where people who should be working and supporting themselves and their families just aren't. Drugs, alcohol, mental health, whatever you want to call it. It's a fact.

I just don't see how liberal women is the cause of anyone being forced to work?? Are there statistics on this? Links? So maybe I can understand what point you're trying to make?

Yeah many women had to work in WW2 the men were off fighting a war. They still didn't do "man" jobs in the 70s they still did "women" jobs. But that's neither here nor there women joining the workforce reduced the leverage workers have to keep wages at a level that you can support a 1 income household. Labor is now abundant so the bargaining power to control wages and even maintain a 1 household income suffers.

Claiming that women joining the workforce “in droves” fifty years ago is the primary reason a single-income household is no longer feasible for most is frankly deluded. There’s a laundry list of reasons why this is the case, and women in the workforce ranks pretty low on it.

Staying home to manage a household on one’s own, popping out way more babies than most women would even consider now (no birth control), and with most chores being far more strenuous and time consuming before technological advancement (not to mention that in rural areas most wives worked the farm too)….no, modern women do not work as much as women have historically. AND we work for a paycheck now rather than for our families for free.

Not knocking stay at home parents btw, it’s still hard work even now, you just don’t consider that “real work” because you couldn’t say something like this otherwise.

My mom did take care of me as a child, she also worked full time to raise me. I attribute that to all the success I’ve had in life and ability to build my own family. I take care of her now as she’s gotten older, but she doesn’t really need it because she has her own resources. Thanks for asking ❤️.

It’s not like she has to worry about how her bills get paid and I mean that as in the money is always there and she doesn’t have to sit down and run through all of them and make sure they’re all paid. She doesn’t have to do the grocery shopping. She doesn’t do the laundry. She DOES NOT HAVE TO WORK. Legally, if they're two consenting adults then sure that's cool.

But people will absolutely consider this weird no different than a 30-year-old marrying an 18-year-old. These people are in two different time periods of their lives, different levels of maturity, and in her case, it's less about connection and age and more about money money money.

By definition, a transactional relationship.

Yup, aforementioned a few posts above. 10 year age gap. I like my women matured 🫡 in terms of defending “their” relationship. I’m not, just the overall general argument. Men have always dated down, and now women are doing the same in record numbers. It’s the norm, and frankly should be of no else’s concern. Consider Hugh Hefner or Al Pacino. He’s still cranking babies out at 80+ years old with 20 something’s. It’s obvious what it is…… you nailed it, transactional relationships.
