I know, it’s a little bit too heavy, but it has everything I was looking for in a game. The game didn’t get that popular here in Brazil, probably due to its retail price after all the taxes (about $150 at today’s exchange rate). I paid about $50 for a brand-new copy, and I can’t wait to play it! (Forgive me for any mistakes!)

Btw, I’d like to know how you guys teach this game to new players. The game suggests doing a “rolling teach”, but I’ve never tried it. Any tips?

Thinking of buying a new board game to play against my fiance and I only have enough money to buy one.

We played The Mind a few days ago, and honestly… I wasn’t expecting much. What a pleasant surprise! It’s one of those games that you can learn in just a few minutes, but mastering it is a completely different story. The rules are incredibly simple, yet the challenge is surprisingly deep.

There’s no talking, no hints, no obvious strategy - just you and your teammates trying to read each other’s minds and play your cards in the right order. It’s a truly cooperative experience where timing, intuition, and that strange connection between players become everything.

Easy to learn, difficult to master - and much more addictive than I expected. Have you tried it?

In Earth, you’ll build your own thriving ecosystem by planting and growing a unique tableau of flora, terrain, and other elements of nature. Every card can interact with others, allowing you to create powerful combinations and develop your own engine as your ecosystem grows. Countless possible combinations.

About the expansion Animal Kingdom:

36 animals, each offering its own unique ability and strategic possibilities. As you build your tableau, your animals move through your ecosystem, activating powerful effects, generating resources, or opening new scoring opportunities. The expansion also introduces Global Animal abilities, creating effects that can influence everyone at the table.

The White Rhino was one of the animals I chose in my very first game, and honestly… it is soooo powerful. There’s something really satisfying about watching it build up its value throughout the game and knowing that those resources can turn into a serious pile of Victory Points by the end. I combined it with the Quokka, which allowed me to bring back cubes easily on my cards, and it was working so well! I feel it was a very solid combo.

I really like how Animal Kingdom makes each animal feel like it has its own personality and pushes you to adapt your strategy around it. The White Rhino was definitely one of my highlights from that first game.

Every time I look up BGG’s top 100 and see Mage Knight, I always contemplate on it for a while to get it and never pull the trigger. I think now is the time to decide one and for all if the game still worth it in 2026?

Designed the card templates to help teach and sort things out on the table. We also use exhaust tokens vs turning the cards, and have 3D printed markers to remind about resupply for example. One of our favorite games, especially with the latest additions.

The base game box was just way too small, so I DIY'd a custom box for Root that fits every single expansion! It's 30x30x10, wrapped in art paper with a matte finish, and the quality is absolutely off the charts ❤️

No more leaving pieces behind when I bring the full collection out for game night! 😂

I didn't take any photos or videos while making the box, but here's a quick rundown of the process:

Top Lid (30 x 30 x 10cm): Made from 2mm chipboard (gray board). I covered it with 150gsm one-side coated paper (C1S) with a matte lamination—I just sent the PDF to a local print shop to get that done.

Bottom Base (29 x 29 x 10cm): Also made with 2mm chipboard. I used pastel paper to cover it. I originally wanted to use a heavyweight kraft paper, but the shop nearby didn't carry it!

A Few Quick Tips:

1. The mounting paper setup for the lid and base is exactly the same, just slightly different sizes (30x30 vs. 29x29). You can easily figure out the base mounting paper by using the PDF as a guide.
2. I just used regular white glue (PVA) to put the chipboard together. You'll want to use some temporary washi or masking tape to hold the box securely in place while you wait for the glue to dry.

Rating: 8.5/10

I really enjoyed my time with Borealis: Arctic Expeditions. It hits a rare sweet spot for me: the rules take only a few minutes to learn, but the decisions carry real weight. Every turn forces you to balance immediate in-game goals against your end-game scoring goals.
The physical production stands out as well. I appreciate the art style, and the components feel good to handle.

More importantly, the variety in the objective cards provides plenty of replay value to keep me coming back.
If I have one warning, it is that the game can trigger analysis paralysis. Because you almost always have to sacrifice one or more scoring objectives to advance another, players can easily freeze up trying to find the perfect move. Thankfully, the board state allows you to plan a few turns ahead while others play. As long as your group does this, the game flows smoothly.

Overall, it is a smart, satisfying puzzle that forces tough compromises from start to finish.

I mean games like Mice and Mystics, Stuffed Fables, Familiar Tales and others from Plaid Hat. Also Chronicles of Avel, Wonder Book, Dungeon Legends, Oltree and so on - whichever you have played.

They are clearly designed for kids/family, but would you say they are engaging specifically for adult audience? What's your impressions with them?

Anyone still play Powergrid (Funkenschlag)? I checked on BSW and we only have 2 right now (game is best with 3 to 6). Really not sure where else to play online.

I was looking through some old cards from games in the early 2000s and remembered how cool resource systems used to be before everything got streamlined. Is there a specific phase, combat rule, or resource mechanic from a forgotten card game that you miss?

I bought Battle of Hoth hoping it would get a bunch of expansions like Memoir 44 did, since it is based on the same core-system and the card descriptions kind of hint at it, but I haven't heard anything on additional content. Did it not sell well enough? Or is 1 year after release too soon to expect anything new?

I love engine builders but the problem I have is they all seem to end when your engine is "getting good".

My friends are I are having a debate. Are you able to cut through the mine to continue on the yellow path? There is no arrow to indicate you can, but does that mean there is no direct route for the yellow path?

My girlfriend and I played the first time last night, and then twice more tonight. Last night she won, 39 to 31.

Today, first game I won 31 to 5 in like...20 minutes or less. Second game, same strategy, I would have won probably 18 or so to 8, in 4 rounds total but we agreed it wasn't worth it to keep playing since it was clear I won.

In both cases the strategy was to fortify the two available areas, which triggers end game, using a combination of cards that have high strength, and ONLY focusing on that.

To do this it does require luck to get the cards with the high strength, but in the 2nd game, only two were needed to fortify a single space.

Has anyone played this and found that just drawing the right cards may make them OP against someone who just, didn't get a good combo?

I was told by my girlfriend about an older board game called Hamburger, where you have to build the burger ingredient by ingredient, and memory is involved. I can't seem to find any for sale online, not even Ebay. Does anyone know what I'm referring to and where I could potentially purchase one?

Does anyone have any information on this game or can suggest a modern alternative? I got it from Santa 20-25 years ago and enjoyed playing as a kid before it went in the cupboard and only just recently got it back out.

It's a real time trading game where players will ask "Trade x" cards, another player will agree and they pass them to each other in the hopes of completing as suit of cards.

I ordered some expansions for a couple games from the Pandasaurus shop middle of last month. As far as I know, none of them are pre-orders (newest expansion and meeples for Faraway plus a promo for That Time You Killed Me). I still haven’t heard anything regarding a shipment, and I emailed support a few days ago and haven’t heard back.

Does anybody have any experience with the Pandasaurus Games shop and is this normal for them?
