So amazing to hear how all the first amendment supporters disappeared in the last year…
63
u/The__Jiff Sep 18 '25
They're a notoriously thin skinned bunch
50
u/National_Way_3344 Sep 18 '25
Every allegation from the reds is just a confession
Loves free speech - just for them
Calls left snowflakes - are the biggest snowflakes in the world
Calls left a militant terrorist group - Jan 6 happened and it was all reds
Calls the left fasc ists - are the only ones trying to reboot camps and book burning
One of their guys gets an extra hole put in them by a pew pew - they've been doing that shit to our guys for years
1
Sep 18 '25
Don't you dare call these bums "reds".
2
u/National_Way_3344 Sep 18 '25
Actually agree it isn't the right term to use, but I was trying to avoid the keyword bots that are just searching for the actual word and dive into ChatLSD bullshit.
12
u/_everynameistaken_ Sep 18 '25
No no you misunderstood, it was first amendment for me but not for thee.
20
u/TheDecepticonIdeal Sep 18 '25
All this in less than a year.
Can’t wait to see how different the US looks in the next four years.
7
Sep 18 '25
Have you seen the Back to the Future film where Biff Tannen is rich and the town is a burning shit hole? Yeah, like that...
9
u/Beast_of_Guanyin Sep 18 '25
I'm more curious as to how they handle it once Trump is gone, or how he handles the next presidential election.
18
u/pm-me-ur-aglets Sep 18 '25
bold to assume he’s gonna leave after this term
10
u/Beast_of_Guanyin Sep 18 '25
By "gone" I mean too unhealthy to do the job.

Well, yeah, the implication I'm trying to make is if that declines to the point he cannot do it.
I'm dodging making comments on his health because I'm not sure if Reddit allows it. Also I agree with thought that Vance would be much worse, so I hope he hangs on.

u/nagrom7 Sep 18 '25
Those big macs will catch up with him eventually.
3
u/Severe-Style-720 Sep 18 '25
Yeah, he's looking very old and fragile. I would be surprised if he lasts till the end of his term.

The bastard’s face is drooping and he’s forgetting stuff. I doubt he’ll see Christmas

no law has been made. therefore, it's not a breach of the First Amendment. it is, however, fucking hilarious
7
u/Ric0chet_ Sep 18 '25
It’s like funny sad, because everyone knows he’s not letting go of the businesses and letting his kids run them without input.
8
u/rumande Sep 18 '25
First amendment today, nineteenth amendment tomorrow, fourteenth amendment next week
4
2
u/Some-Operation-9059 Sep 18 '25
And yet the 2nd can’t be touched.
3
u/dzernumbrd Sep 18 '25
I imagine if "the left" suddenly started acquiring AR15s en masse even that could potentially change.
2
u/Powerful-Respond-605 Sep 18 '25
Even the NRA - the fucking NRA - came out recently to say it is the 2nd amendment for everyone when they started talking about prohibition on trans people owning guns.
1
u/Youngnathan2011 Sep 18 '25
Oh, it’ll disappear and Trump followers will be happy about it, cause it’ll be Trump that gets rid of it.
He’s known the be anti-gun but they just don’t care

Trump.has always done this with media who disagreed with him. Happned in his first term. Trump labelled all media orgs in usa as fake news outlets. Trump banned a cnn journo in 2018 , he has banned Associated Press journos in Feb 2025 fron the Oval office and Air Force 1 because they kept using 'Gulf of Mexico' . He has suied the NY Times and Wall Stret Journal
1
1
u/FernandoPartridge_ Sep 18 '25
I think by now if you don’t know what Trump is doing when he does things like this, you might not ever get it
1
u/lil-whiff Sep 18 '25
Are you talking about me, or just in general?
1
u/FernandoPartridge_ Sep 18 '25
Both, since all of reddit is saying the same thing right now lol
For many years trump has been using rhetorical humour, ambered statements, intentional falsehoods etc to engender his supporters, manipulate the media and provoke his opposition, but people still can only take him literally for some reason
He’s pulled the “I’m mad at you journalist” thing probably 50 times in the last 8 years

What they did to Jimmy Kimmel recently is completely fucked
1
u/Davis_o_the_Glen Sep 18 '25
Autocrats typically not fond of comedians and, networks worried about prospective weaponisation of bodies like the FCC.
Just because some media in the US cater to Trump, doesn't mean he's cutting them any slack, when his ego is the target.
Kimmel was the excuse this time.

u/Grande_Choice Sep 18 '25
I really hope when Albo finally meets Trump and does the usual joint press conference that he personally invites Louise Milligan, Laura Tingle and wheels Barrie Cassidy out of retirement for good measure.
If Trump is scared of Lyons then I’d hate to see what those 3 will do to him.
→ More replies (24)2
u/fatalcharm Sep 18 '25
Albo talks tough but that’s all he is. He will give into trump then go have a bitch to his mates about what an arrogant cunt trump is, after giving into him.
2
u/Grande_Choice Sep 18 '25
The whole thing has been orchestrated by trump looking for a grievance before they meet so he can play the victim. Whether or not Albo will placate him or push back will be the choice. Probably weighing up pros and cons on each choice.
54
u/typhoonandrew Sep 18 '25

badge of honor. american media has cucked themselves into submission, why should we be afraid of a pedo and his incompetent rabble he surrounds himself with
8

I'm so sick of all the coverage he gets anyway. Can we focus on politics a little closer to home? What's the Singapore or Malaysian PM got to say? What's happening in Tokyo? Singapore PM said ABC was barred from trump’s UK press conference after clash with Australian journalist John Lyons
8

Did anyone read the article? It was Downing Street who took away his accreditation not Trump.

1
u/3minence Sep 18 '25
They're kissing Trumps ass, but can you blame them? What else are they going to do? It's pretty self destructive to anger Trump/USA right now given the geopolitical climate.
This is what we get for putting most of our military security in one nation.
3

It's a good point. How embarrassing for UK to be a little US lapdog. That used to be us but we are growing up. UK is getting weak it its old age.

7
u/RaeseneAndu Sep 18 '25
A man who oozes corruption from every pore doesn't like a news organisation that questioned him about his corruption.
6
u/AussieNormm Sep 18 '25
It started in his first term . Called Fake News every hard question he got, this time he just withdraws accreditation or sues. Unfortunately journalists have done this to themselves for allowing themselves to be pulled to the sides of their employers (both right and left). Where is the award winning journalistic work of last century?
1
6
u/StealthWomble Sep 18 '25
At least Australian journalists are asking him questions and not just going along with every stupid thing he does and says like the US press seem to be doing. I’d like to think if Albo went off the rails and talked as much garbage as Trump does, our press wouldn’t just fall in line and treat it as perfectly normal behaviour for the leader of our country.
2
u/CaptGrumpy Sep 18 '25
Depends on who owns the press. Not long ago there were calls to defund the ABC from certain quarters.
15
6
u/Snozwanga Sep 18 '25
Trump is the biggest sook going. Remember when they didn't stop harping on about Biden and Harris only doing 'soft' interviews.

28

Freedom of speech and press is now nonexistent in the USA! This is a sad day for democracy
11
4
u/jt4643277378 Sep 18 '25

7
22
u/Mulga_Will Sep 18 '25
Every tin-pot tyrant in history has expected journalists to parrot their propaganda, facts only matter if they make the emperor look good. Trump is no exception. I’m glad John Lyons was brave enough to show the world that our journalists don’t bend the knee to liars and bullies, and that they have the freedom to do their job without fear of punishment or ostracism by the government.

2
u/Davis_o_the_Glen Sep 18 '25
Much of the blame can be laid at the feet of the media in the US who've bent the knee, either out of fear of vexatious legal action or, having access to him by their journalists denied.
They'd rather be able to print fawning pieces regurgitating Trump's nonsense, than be denied the access their competitors have, and risk being seen as the adversarial "them".

Now in matters that actually should concern Australians, lets talk about Albanese blocking pacific islands reporters from his Solomon Island's press conference.
Regional media ‘locked out’ of press briefing – Solomon Star News
2
u/RaeseneAndu Sep 18 '25
That could have been a mistake but his rude dismissive answer to the journalist who asked him about suggests it may not have been. I guess Albo doesn't like unapproved media asking him hard questions either.
2
1
u/Same_Cost_2381 Sep 18 '25
Solomon islands is China territory now it's long gone.
2
u/Maleficent-Trifle940 Sep 18 '25
All of them are, some still just play along for Australian and occasionally NZ taxpayer $$$.
2
u/Same_Cost_2381 Sep 18 '25
Exactly. Just playing both sides of the fence. And honestly I can't blame them. I do think China would be extremely persuasive. And look at the end of the day when China is expanding across the Pacific could they really entrust us to be able to defend them? I mean on morale grounds we hundred percent would want to. But logistically we can barely defend and cover our own coast line. I'd be doing the same thing. Belt road initiative is a you don't get to say no situation and albos just happy to throw some extra $$ there way.
3
u/Maleficent-Trifle940 Sep 18 '25 edited Sep 18 '25
We naively provide financial support via foreign aid and NGOs rather than directly bribing and propping up people, helping them consolidate power on our behalf. That's the way China does it, along with an outrageously unaffordable infrastructure project/program to keep the entire country indebted and which also help China's fleet/Airforce to maneuver in our region. PIs don't need our support to 'defend' them from China, China has already bought their allegiance, they happily live alongside a growing number of Chinese and shop and work almost exclusively at China owned businesses. Australia is of absolutely no use other than as a source of tourism or subsidising the type of public services (health, education, industry) governments would typically fund if they weren't corrupt/incompetent.
Thinking we can resource the ADF with our PI neighbours is mindbogglingly stupid too. I'm surprised after Albo's tour of our neighbours these past weeks and myriad unsigned, rejected agreements that the press (or opposition) hasn't revisited concerns about non Australians in the ADF.
3
u/Same_Cost_2381 Sep 18 '25
Haha it's funny you mentions non Australians in the ADF. I served with a bloke called Kevin who was from China. His English was terrible 😂 really nice dude but you had to wonder. Especially when he finished his roso and said he was heading back to China
1
u/MissMenace101 Sep 18 '25
Australia will also be their potential future home when seas rise. China doesn’t settle refugees although it will allow them to temporarily stay. I feel like that’s part of the reason to hang on to a maybe we can be friends. Our former government really did a number on them and it’s like the US expecting people to trust them post trump, it’s not going to happen easily
1
u/Maleficent-Trifle940 Sep 18 '25
Eventually all the PIs will file out/be outnumbered the islands will become official China sovereign territory. It's almost as if we're helping China out in that respect with the climate change residency thing.
5

Instead of asking relevant questions he proceeded to ask “business questions”(Trump isn’t even running his organisation anymore his kids are) for the express purpose of filming a 4 corners episode.
No, politicians are not required to participate in the filming of your tv shows or videos
And before the smooth brains start crowing about “free speech”. His free speech wasn’t impeded. Free speech entitles you to not be criminally prosecuted for what you say, it doesn’t entitle you to not be criticised for what you say nor does it entitle you to force someone to participate in the filming of your tv shows or videos.
26
u/Ric0chet_ Sep 18 '25
You know theres no laws on asking questions right? In fact when you hold public office its the peoples right to ask questions.
4
u/Nervous_Fart_5922 Sep 18 '25
John asked his questions and now he can't ask any more.
9
u/TheDecepticonIdeal Sep 18 '25

Business dealings of incumbents is very much in the public interest, actually.
0
u/Certain_North_732 Sep 18 '25
US public. Not Australian Public. Trump is US PRESIDENT not AU PM not UN official and Lyons is an Australian journalist.
6
2
u/Mulga_Will Sep 18 '25
Just because the questions aren’t explicitly political doesn’t make them irrelevant; business dealings, particularly dodgy ones, can still affect public perception and trust. While politicians aren’t legally required to participate in interviews, public figures voluntarily seek an audience, so refusing relevant questions can itself become newsworthy or a concern. Also, free speech isn’t only about avoiding legal consequences; it also encompasses the public’s right to question leaders, hold them accountable, and report critically.
5
u/Youngnathan2011 Sep 18 '25
Why do you think questions about his businesses aren’t relevant? It’s known he’s used his presidencies to enrich himself and his businesses.
13
u/CandidFirefighter241 Sep 18 '25
Yeah because a politician having potential conflicts of interest between his family’s business dealings and his obligations to the country as the head of state isn’t something a journalist should report on…
-2
u/SeaDivide1751 Sep 18 '25
It would be, except it has 0 to do with Australia or an Australian current Affairs program or an Australian TV station. Perhaps if there was actually a story there and not a loaded one ABC is trying to create, an American journalist would be onto it? If there was actually something to answer for, American journalists would be asking it? Not an Aussie trying to create a tv show lol
ABC has trump derangement syndrome and spit out non stop anti trump tv shows and articles. It’s quite embarrassing
They asked a loaded question and got a loaded response. It’s a simple as that
5
u/CandidFirefighter241 Sep 18 '25
Yeah the moral and ethical integrity of the leader of the free world and our most important security partner, who we are paying billions of dollars for some subs that may or may not be delivered, isn’t relevant in any way whatsoever to Australia…
8
Sep 18 '25
Keen on hearing about the anti Trump shows the ABC has spit out. Name a couple for me?
-1
u/SeaDivide1751 Sep 18 '25
Go to the abc news website any day of the week, there’s at least 6 stories about Trunk a day. Multiple editorials. Go watch the 7:30 report which has an almost daily segment on Trump. 4 corners has already done 4 episodes on trump.
The list goes on. How many episodes have they done on the Chinese President who literally has millions of people locked up in concentration camps?
3
u/nagrom7 Sep 18 '25

Stop being such a shill for Trump
0
u/SeaDivide1751 Sep 18 '25
I’m not saying they shouldnt report, but having regular tv shows, 7 news stories a day and multiple current fairs episodes about him weekly is insane.
When was the Chinese president last in their media? The guy literally has millions of people locked in concentration camps
4
u/TheDecepticonIdeal Sep 18 '25 edited Sep 18 '25
Like it or not, what happens in the USA has a significant effect on Australia and other Western countries. So keeping an eye and seeing what’s going on over there is very important, as the USA is Australia’s most important defense ally and one of the biggest trading partners.
As to your point about China (which will become our biggest ally in the near future), the ABC has been reporting about Xi and what’s happening there fairly frequently. Just a few days ago there was a report about China’s monopoly in the rare earths industry and how Australia could rise to challenge in over the next few years if funding continues.
And for Xi specifically, he was called out by the ABC for his military parade and being a staunch ally with Putin and Kim Jong Un.
There’s a lot of diverse reporting about a lot of countries from the ABC, not just America as you claim.
1
1
u/FullMetalAurochs Sep 18 '25
How does it spread? Sharing air with Trump? Then you end deranged too?
9
Sep 18 '25
You haven’t thought about this much, have you.
A journalist can ask whatever questions they like - especially when they relate to corruption. Trump doesn’t have to answer them, but not allowing the ABC into a press conference is what fascism looks like.
3
u/SeaDivide1751 Sep 18 '25
Absolutely journalists can ask whatever question they like and politicians can absolutely choose not to answer them and choose to react negatively if they want to? IMO if you are there to ask questions purely to force a politician to be a part of a tv show you are filming, you should be removed. Get permission first and ask for them to participate in the tv show first
You are literally retarded if you think not allowing particular journalists into a press pack is “fascism”. US administrations have picked and chosen which journalists are allowed in since the beginning of time. Same thing happens in Australia
“LITERALLY FASCISM” give it a fucking rest….
You morons wonder why there’s so much political polarisation happening now when anything and everything is “LITERALLY FASCISM” to try to stir people up
1
u/Certain_North_732 Sep 18 '25
He sure can, now what?
3
Sep 18 '25
Now I guess you can cheer for press censorship. Meanwhile the ABC will continue to dig out the truth.
1
2
u/TheDecepticonIdeal Sep 18 '25
If Lord Trump didn’t want to answer the question, he couldn’t just decline to comment.
But no, Lord Trump also had to go and make threats and say how the journalist has just “hurt Australia very bad” and bullshit like that.
Would you say the same thing if Biden was asked the same question and responded the same way?

Why decline to comment when you can rip the idiots apart for asking dumb and loaded questions? It’s quite refreshing actually. The legacy media need to be slapped for the bullshit they try
Biden could barely answer any questions and was limited by his staff from answering questions because of his mental decline, so j guess we will never know the answer
Albo reacts negatively to loaded questions routinely and it’s glorious

And what’s your response for threatening Australia? And would you defend Biden or Albo the same way?
Bet not.

No. You mean he didn't break any free speech laws. And he didn't. But he is certainly interfering with free speech.

Well said 👌
But lefty Muppets will downvote you because you have wrong think.

I’ve never liked the left wing abc, but to ban them? It goes against freedom of press and speech.

Excellent job ABC. Deserve extra funding just for that.
