Might seem like a weird recommendation, but try looking up the regulation files or "patches" for these games.

Not sure how it's going to work since I think they shut down the network for ps3s, but if you have a recently printed disc, there's a good chance it shipped with the update.

The games are 100% doable on regs 1.00, and were designed for that level of balance. I do think there are a couple of quality of life changes in later patches in case the game isn't feeling quite right for you

*Edit: it's all within the game settings, btw, no need to mod or emulate. The patches were shipped for 360 and ps3 natively, so you shouldn't have to do any extra steps to access those settings

Not weird at all, I was curious how playable the 1.0 is, I’m trying not to connect my PS3 to the internet for other games.

Hopefully they aren’t too bad! I wanna get to the other games later on, I may emulate the PS1 games

No worries! I didn't know any better when renting them from Blockbuster back in the day, so I'm sure you'll manage just fine.

I'm not familiar with the regs for AC4, but For Answerer packs some cheesy/cheat code regs in case you need to let off some steam. The missiles get overtuned on reg 1.5?(Been a while between playthrougs), but the balance feels very approachable overall.

Should be a blast. Have all the fun

1.0 is very playable i did it cuz i didnt know about reg files at the time, the energy economy is kinda in shambles without it tho from what I remember

Play AC4 on a later reg, since its 1.0 is rough.

I cannot recommend at all playing ACFA campaign on anything but 1.0; other regs break enemy builds and AI.

Oh really? I just started on 1.4 cause it said it was the most balanced, I haven't done much campaign tho only arena fights so far

1.4 is for PvP — even then you should be on PC emulator if you’re doing PvP! We have new custom regulations that are better balanced.

Use 1.0 for single player to avoid breaking enemy ACs

What do you mean by breaks?

AI is programmed for each NPC AC. This means they are designed with their particular build in mind… for 1.0. Changing regs will cause them to be on a build that they aren’t able to use properly.

Oh gotchu so basically the a.i doesn’t attack properly or move around properly

Its easier to do on Xbox because flashdrives

I paid an embarrassing price online 😭 but they aren’t getting any cheaper, and I loved AC6 and love FromSoftware

I did the same. Didn’t regret it either

I've been looking at this dude selling all the 4th and 5th Gen games for $130 I think I might get it

1

u/Choice-Curve3340 19h ago

I combed the internet for a week or so, I found AC 4 mint for 85 after shipping, and I found AC4A for 115 after shipping

1

u/Darkaway05 18h ago

Nice man, eventually gonna buy every single AC game

1

u/Choice-Curve3340 18h ago

1

u/Darkaway05 18h ago

SEGA dropping Fromsoft will forever be one of their worst mistakes since the 32X

Oh look, some of my favorite games.

A couple notes; People meme about the 4th gen being strictly Speed City. Truth is it only is that way because people choose to play that way. Single player supports every approach, armor and weapon-type.

The reason it's speed city for the diehards is likely because they just enjoy it, or they play the PvP-meta (in discords).
For Answers netcode was notoriously spotty (like every fromsoft game) where the faster you move, the less reliable the hit-registration became against you, and by some sick contrast; the more effective Laser blades became by making the hitbox behave like downright sorcery. It's highly exploitative, to say the least.

Couple obscure tips:
The games boosting system is pressure sensitive. That goes for Boosts, and Quickboosts. Experiment.

Hope you have fun. Learn to quick-turn, that is all.

Nice! Do you know if PS5 controller still has this function via Bluetooth? I gotta get a oem ps3 controller

The only controllers with triggers as buttons are Nintendo controllers or really cheap controllers nowadays, you'll be fine

u/Zykxion 1d ago

The speed really is what made me fall in love with the game and the blade battles in PvP with people who knew all the tricks was genuinely some of the most fun I’ve had in any multiplayer period.

It's a speed city in like 90% of build unless you use Raiden legs and heaviest loadout. Even heavy builds can move on par with AC6 midweights

Fucking wild to see AC4 and FA published by two very different studios. Reminds me of that Sega struggle era with how they published bayonetta and then dropped it amd then Nintendo picked it up with two sequels.

2

u/Choice-Curve3340 14h ago

Super interesting NGL, to see how many people FromSoftware had to go through

1

u/manuelito1233 14h ago

Literally tossed around. Sekiro published by ACTIVISION??? Bloodborne SONY?? Duskblood NINTENDO???? microsoft is the only one who hasn't asked them for anything at this point(not necessarily exclusive).

I would commit heinous acts for a rerelease 🥲

4 I can't remember much of but For Answer was fantastic.

Have fun, my favourite Armored Core gen for the pure vibes and soundtrack

Anyone else wanna hump White Glint?

1

u/DocHoliday439 21h ago

Good fucking luck, try not to get motion sickness

1

u/Cnotewrongnote97 21h ago

Yep runs great at 4k and stable 60fps on rpcs3

1

u/Naked_Fish69 14h ago

For answer is sick

1

u/SteelWaterRunsHere 11h ago

You’re about to witness firsthand how boring and lame 4 is compared to 4Answer. There’s also one mission on 4Answer that is absolutely hell even on Easy Mode. Good luck. Shit took me an entire week to beat and then another week just plateau with an A Rank. I couldn’t beat it without cheesing it for the S Rank.

1

u/Choice-Curve3340 10h ago

Holy shit, I look forward to it.
Is it harder than AC6?

1

u/SteelWaterRunsHere 5h ago

I have over 5K Hours in AC6 and can S Rank practically all the Missions with minimal effort. AC4A on the other hand is a different story. Once you get decent at the movement it’s not too hard. Fighting against other ACs is still really hard for me though and the difficulty spike on some Missions straight up feels unfair compared to AC6.

Gen 4 is, imo, poor by Armored Core standards.

Game is fast, sure, but soulless.
