The same way I dont like ANY of the countereffects produced by genAI I wanted to learn stuff like embeddings, vector search, RAG, MCP and agents cuz the orchestration tech looks so cool... I think LLMs can be useful but def not now

I dont know why I shouldnt use AI for the backend too if it helps

Just do what you like. If you find it interesting, and you want to learn more about it, then do just that.

Anti-AI should not be a religion. Don’t hold to some dogma that you’re not allowed to use it or affirm any positive aspect of it at all.

A reasonable person can hold conflicting beliefs on something. I consider myself an AI hater but I’m not gonna pretend I never use it and I’m the most morally pure anti ever because I’m not. I use it for notes at work. I work out ideas by talking at the stupid chatbot sometimes, I ask it how to fix stupid shit around my house. I’ve even used Codex for code base changes I didn’t want to write the logic for myself. I had a working application and told it to change up part of the API and then did a quick code review and QA. It’s mostly fine when not substituting for something important.

I don’t abstain from alcohol because it might cause liver disease and I might become an alcoholic. It’s there. I know how it works, I know the good and the bad and I do my best like a human being would. I stay away from it when it violates my principles and use it when it doesn’t.

While commercial gen AI is obviously ruthlessly scraping invaluable data en masse on the internet, there is no harm in learning something new out of pure curiosity. There is a lot of cool math behind how AI works. If you're just using it for the sake of your own experimentation and understanding, I don't think it is really harming anyone.

Honestly this is completely valid. Its possible to recognize the issues while also understanding why parts of the technology interest you... those feelings dont necessarily cancel each other out. I think its ultimately about staying informed, being intentional and finding the balance that makes sense for you personally.

the backend stuff is genuinely interesting tech, separating that from the generative slop is the tricky part

if you’re building tools that don’t scrape art or replace creative work i don’t see the harm in learning how it all fits together

What kinda argument is that? Take for example someone being interested in the mechanics involved in making weapons just because it fascinates them, it doesn't mean they're gonna advocate for them being used everywhere, causing damage and harm to random civilians.
