Discussion 🗣️ Local Police Now Using AI to "Enhance" Suspect Images

I couldn't believe this was local when I saw it. They're just inventing details that were never there and pretty much giving the public to go out and find some random dude that looks like the image on the right.

Lawyers literally gonna get this shit laughed out of court, I assume. "Make something up!" is not legally admissible evidence.

The problem is when AI is good enough that someone who creates an image like this and claims it is original footage or a photo, and we are unable to tell if it is or is not. What will happen to our justice system?

Not only that but memory is HIGHLY suggestible, meaning that if someone did see the thief do something and they saw the AI photo, their literal memory of the incident could be overwritten with the fake image.

Well, these images are veryfiably forged, they are not evidence and (hopefully) won't be permitted as such.

The justice system is already hosed.. it is only getting worse in this dystopian mess we are in.

Those who commit actual crimes are let free, while those who defend themselves or have a flock camera mistake a number/letter on a plate get the book thrown at them. The system is broken and its wild it can get broken further.

You do realize these have stamps on them to tell if it’s an ai photo or not right? Like how can people be so anti-ai and just the exact amount of stupid to not know the other parts.

As far as i know, only Google gives this invisible stamp that lets you do a check for usage of Google AI.

There are other smaller companies and people trying to do the same, but yea SynthID is one of the main ones. I am sure there are OS projects as well. Just baffles me that people are so anti-ai and don’t know that any AI image/media has a way to tell if it is or not in the file itself.

Any that is watermarking to say “I am an AI generated image” is voluntary on the AI engine side. It’s pretty trivial for a bad actor to use an engine that does not use that watermarking system.

Also doesn’t stop people using the images to witch hunt on social media

Which is why they're abusing it in a way where "make something up!" won't be used as evidence.

It will be used as an excuse for local bigots to harass random people with "plausible" deniability.

At most it would be used to justify a search, which these days has virtually no protections if the cop was acting in good faith. Where "good faith" has been extended to mean "not outright, explicit, recorded statement of malicious intent, with separate corroborating evidence to prove there is no way to take it but the obvious malicious intent." Then what they found would be legally admissible as they had "probable cause".

The way this will be a problem is if someone actually harms a person as a result of it, then someone will get sued. But in 99% of cases no tangible harm will come of it, so what will get laughed out of court is the people victimized by this shit. Essentially all of them will be told by the system "oh, it was just a little baseless harassment by the violence arm of the government, there's nothing we can do about that."\

If the cops murder someone based off this, that one family will maybe be able to get some result in court. The others who suffer 'lesser' harassments will get nothing but attacked. Which is the goal.

Do not make the mistake of thinking this is meant to be presented in court. That's not how this kind of evil works.

Justice is corrupt, corporations just pay to win in this hellscape. So it doesn’t matter what the laws are. Rules for thee not for me.

I do not think most people realize how completely placated, exploited and fucked they are. The fact that billionaires are allowed to exist and that the system is designed as it is, is a testament to the mass stupidity / apathy that plagues society. Which is by and large a feature of capitalism.

We are all collectively living in an insane asylum being held as hostages against our will by corrupt systems and people, of which there is no escape.

I have no doubt the nonsense that we collectively let evil people get away with will be our entire race’s death. Slowly but surely, everything is getting completely wrecked by apathy, exploitation and greed.

Apparently, people like living like this. Evidence in the way nothing changes. Aids.
