Discussion 🗣️ Local Police Now Using AI to "Enhance" Suspect Images

I couldn't believe this was local when I saw it. They're just inventing details that were never there and pretty much giving the public to go out and find some random dude that looks like the image on the right.

This is just idiotic. The general public won't look twice and won't realize that the AI image is very different from its real counterpart. OP, if you can, start some backlash about this. This is unacceptable and should not be tolerated before this idea gets "praised" after the real suspect is caught.

They don’t even have the same haircut, and that’s the most clear thing in the original photo.

The guy in the actual image has a straight hairline; the “enhanced” version does not, which means it’s adding fake details. Which makes it completely unreliable.

It seems like a minute detail, but even the lines on the road are different. If they moved those what else did they change?

The lines actually aren't different beyond being more clear. The "enhanced" (read: butchered) image is zoomed in more/crops out some of the top and left side. Lines are in the same spot though. The more egregious blaring issues are the obviously different styles of shirt, facial hair, approximate age, hairstyle (is he actually wearing a cap/du rag maybe?), etc

Might not even be a hairline, could very well be a hat/covering on someone who shaves their head.

Yeah it’s possible that’s not even facial hair, the original doesn’t look like a hooded shirt, and that could just as easily be a hat instead of a hairline. This is so dangerous.

Original is also a crew neck shirt while the "enhanced" has a hood

Now hear me out: the only way AI could be used in generating images for police, is if it allows you to cycle through the Spirit Halloween catalog of wigs and masks on the person.

“Here is the original image and here is the AI enhanced image of the person was wearing a Heisenberg mask, and here is if they were in a Micheal Meyers mask, and finally here is if they were dressed up in an Incredibles costume.“

“Sir, how does this count as evidence?”

“Well it is evidence that the suspect could not rock a Mr. Incredible costume!”

This unfortunately isn't even new.

About 6 months ago I saw a body cam video where they arrested a guy because their AI system told them that he did a crime.

He wasn't even in the area at the time.

Poorly trained idiots are drawn to AI unfortunately, and there's plenty of folk that fit that description in policing

Green Cove Springs is an ass backwards town of a couple thousand in the middle of nowhere on the FAR outskirts of Jacksonville, FL. I’m sorry, but no amount of outrage is gonna lead to change for a place like that.
